Request - Kacey has been so busy lately that is accidentally forgets him and y/n anniversary or birthday and leave her waiting hours for him and he still doesn't remember until someone says something to him about it the next day, She plays it off that it's okay and to not worry about it but he's beating himself up pretty bad.

"Can I get you another water, ma'am?"

You looked up at the waiter and shook your head no.

"Thank you, but I think I might just head out." You placed your napkin on the table.

"Are you sure?" The waiter gave you a sad smile.

"Yeah, you deserve a table that'll tip you," You stood up and grabbed your bag.

You walked out of the smaller, Italian restaurant. It was your second anniversary with Kayce. You knew it had been a rough day...week...month...hell, even a year. But you figured he would remember that you had mad reservations at your favorite place. You even wore the stupid green suede dress Kayce loves. But he was now forty-five minutes late and something told you if he remembered he'd have called you at this point.

You got into your car and sighed out loud. Your first anniversary with Kayce wasn't much different, but it was spent in the hospital. Kayce had been shot on duty, so you brought the top tier of your wedding cake to the hospital room and the two of you shared a piece while he recovered. It wasn't the most romantic thing, but it was better than this. Starting your car, you headed back to the ranch. While driving, you saw Rip call your phone.

"Hello?" You answered.

"Where are you?" Rip barked.

"Hello to you too," You rolled your eyes. "I'm like ten minutes away from the house...why?"

"Kayce is a fucking idiot," Rip said.

"What? Why?" You pulled off the highway. "Where is he?"

"The house," Rip said. "But he's an idiot."

"So, you're said," You sighed. "But you haven't said why."

"He forgot...you've been waiting at the restaurant, right?"

"How did you know?" You asked.

"Because I saw you leave and you had a dress on," Rip said.

"You've noticed more than my husband," You laughed but it wasn't funny. "So...he's at the house and he realizes what happened?"

"Yeah," Rip said.

"What'd he say?" You pulled under the ranch sign.

"Just threw a temper tantrum like a child," Rip chuckled. "And then left."

"Where had he been?" You saw the house come into view.

"Dillon," Rip answered. "He lost a suspect they'd been chasing the past few weeks."

"The guys who killed the horses out on the reservation?" You frowned. "Damn...he's been trying to get them for so long and had a good trail."

"He lost 'em this afternoon," Rip said. "Looked like a dog who'd been kicked."

"Well, that doesn't make me feel good," You pulled your car up next to Kayce's truck.

"He still forgot," Rip said. "Don't let him off easy, Y/N."

"Now who's kicking who when they're down?" You turned your car off. "Thank you for the head's up."

"Have a nice evening," Rip hung up.

You walked up the stairs and opened the door. It was quiet in the house, but you heard glasses against the counter from the kitchen. After placing your purse and keys on the table you walked into the kitchen. Kayce's shoulders where slumped as he poured two glasses of red wine. He looked over his shoulder as if he sensed you and paused.

"Hey," You swallowed the anger in your throat.

Seeing his face, so upset and sad, made all the mean things you wanted to say to him fly out the door.

"Baby," Kayce stepped over to the island between the two of you. "I am so...so sorry."

"It's okay," You shook your head.

"No it ain't," Kayce sighed as he placed his hands on the island. "I just...with everything..."

"Kayce," You sighed.

"No, Y/N," Kayce snapped. "I'm a worthless husband...I can't even fucking remember one date."

"Kayce," You slumped your shoulders and shook your head.

"I'm sorry," Kayce frowned. "I don't...I don't have an excuse except it's me. It's this job and it's made me...I don't even think I can blame the job because some of my guys have wives and girlfriends and they don't mess up like me."

You crossed your arms.

"I don't deserve you," Kayce said. "You don't deserve being treated like this."

"Are you done?" You asked him after he had finished.

Kayce blinked back at you.

"Or do you want to extend this pity party some more?" You asked, dropping your arms, and walking around the island to where he stood.

Kayce leaned up as you stopped next to him.

"Kayce," You gave him a small smile. "I'm sorry you lost the guys you'd been after...I know how hard that is to you and your team."

Kayce's eyes softened. He reached up with his hands, holding your cheeks between his palms.

"You're apologizing to me after what I just did to you?" Kayce asked.

You reached up with your hands and held his wrists.

"I'm not saying it was fun sitting by myself waiting for you," You told him. "But I can separate that from what happened to you today and still be sorry for you."

Kayce slowly slide his hand down your shoulders and to your hips, pulling you toward him. Your hands rested on his arms as you looked up at him.

"I'm sorry," Kayce said again.

"I know you are," You nodded slowly. "That's why I haven't thrown my boot at you."

"How are you like this?" Kayce asked.

"Like what?" You tilted your head.

"Like..." Kayce shrugged his shoulders. "So forgiving?"

"I told you," You smiled. "I can understand why today was hard for you and that it would make you forget. Doesn't mean I don't deserve an apology from you, but I understand it."

"You deserve more than an apology," Kayce squeezed your hips.

"I do," You giggled, your hands moving up so you could wrap your arms around Kayce's neck. "What do you think I deserve?"

"Another dinner for sure," Kayce said.

"What else?" You asked.

"Good bottle of wine," Kayce started to slowly sway with you in his arms.

"Mmm, yes," You smirked. "What else?"

Kayce pulled you closer to him.

"For your husband to pay attention to you," Kayce smiled, leaning his head down to yours. "Love on you."

"There it is," You smiled before Kayce's lips fell on yours.

The next night, Kayce took you out to eat and dancing.
