Request - Reader isn't ready for a relationship after being in a relationship for four years and it didnt work out so shes single for three months ( kayce and her are friends he was there the night she left her ex ) one day she starts to look at him differently and she realizes she loves him.
"Hey, Y/N," Your coworker came up to your desk. "Some of us are grabbing a drink at Riley's after work. Wanna come?"
"I'd love to, but I've got plans," You smiled, shutting down your computer.
"You've had plans the last four Fridays we've done this," She laughed. "It wouldn't be with a certain Livestock Commissioner, would it?"
You stood up with your bag.
"Come on," You sighed. "I've been friends with Kayce for years...since we were in high school. It's not like that."
"In all seriousness, Y/N," Your coworker smiled. "You've been single for a while and I know your last relationship ended...not well, but you are allowed to have some happiness and to try again with someone who will treat you right."
"Thanks," You walked around your desk. "But if Kayce wanted that he'd have already said something to me."
"Maybe...but he's a fucking gentleman," She smirked. "Sometimes to his own fault."
You left shortly after, your head spinning. It was true, your last relationship ended horribly. You remember standing on the porch, tears rolling down your face as you and your ex were screaming at one another. He cheated on you, multiple times and you felt so betrayed and like such an idiot. But when your ex, who was drunk, raised his hand at you Kayce stepped forward and pushed him up against the wall of the cabin.
When your ex tried to fight back, Kayce grabbed his shirt and slammed him against the wall again. You couldn't hear what Kayce said to him but your ex stopped fighting afterwards. Kayce let him go and you weee about to leave when you heard your ex call you a bitch. That's when Kayce grabbed him again, but this time your boyfriend's upper body went through his window.
That was three months ago. The only guy you had been around much since was Kayce. You were comfortable with him, and it dawned on you that that was a huge draw to you with him.
Almost an hour later you pulled up to the foreman's cabin where Kayce lived on his family's ranch. The sun was setting, making the sky look pretty. As you shut your door, Kayce came out with a smile on his face.
He was dressed in his boots and wrangler jeans, with a denim gray button down with the top buttons left undone. His hair was a little wild, making you think he must have gone for a ride or something earlier. His bright caramel eyes looked you up and down and you wondered if he always did that with you or was this the first time?
"Hey," Kayce said, snaking an arm around you and hugging you against him.
He smelled good. You felt the hug lasted too long though for friends. Had all of your hugs with him been this long? Had he always smelled this good? When he pulled back he left his hand on your waist.
"What's wrong?" Kayce asked.
"Nothing," you shook your head. "Why?"
"You got a funny look on your face," Kayce said.
"Oh, just tied," You shrugged. "Long week...glad it's over."
"Alright," Kayce pushed you gently to walk with him back into the cabin. "You can stay here if it gets too late."
Two weeks ago you were out here and time slipped away from you. You ended up sleeping in Kayce's bed while he took the couch. You had been so embarrassed the next morning you left quickly after waking up. Now you were wondering why you got so embarrassed.
