Request - can you do one where kacye has a bad day at work and comes home super late and they fight bc he won't talk to her. he ends up sleeping on the couch and they just fight and ignore each other then eventually she can stand fighting with him and talk things and cuddle through the night. (fluff) thanks!

By the time you finally heard Kayce's truck pull up next to the foreman's cabin, it was well past two in the morning. You sat up in bed, rubbing your face to wake up some...even though you'd been a nervous wreck ever since it got to be late, and Kayce wasn't home...nor answering his phone. You heard his boots on the wooden floor walk slowly over to the bedroom. The door pushed open, and Kayce looked inside.

You let out a long breath, seeing him alive and intact too. His eyes found yours, but he didn't say anything. Your eyes traveled down his body and saw that nothing looked out of place. He simply looked tired, maybe his cheeks a little windswept. Kayce stood there for a second before he continued into the bathroom. That was strange to you, him not saying anything? Did he not realize what time it was? Did he not see your four missed calls and countless texts?

You got out of the bed and walked over to the bathroom door. Kayce was unbuttoning his shirt and glanced in the mirror at you. He paused his fingers and looked over his shoulder.

"Kayce?" You asked. "What...are you not going to say anything?"

"What do you want me to say?" Kayce looked back down and finished his shirt.

"Um..." You looked around, crossing your arms. "Anything at this point would be nice. Where were you? What happened?"

"Nothing," Kayce sighed and pulled out his toothbrush. "Don't worry about it."

"Don't worry...Kayce," You walked over to him while he started brushing his teeth. "It's after two."

Kayce did respond but kept brushing his teeth. You were getting irritated now with the lack of communication. Had he given you a good reason for all of this, then you two could discuss some things and work something out. But he was acting like this wasn't a big deal. Kayce finished his teeth and rinsed his mouth out. He turned to walk away and looked at you.

"Go to bed, baby," Kayce sighed.

"Kayce," You walked after him. "Are you honestly not gonna talk to me?"

"Nothing to say," Kayce walked over to his closet.

"Nothing-Kayce!" You were angry now. "You didn't answer any of my calls and you come home late, and you've got nothing to say to me? Not even an apology?"

"Trust me...there's nothing to say," Kayce pulled on a sleep shirt.

You were so confused and upset; you didn't know what to think. Kayce took a step toward the bed, but you stopped him by holding up your hand. He looked down at you.

"You think you can just come back here and not act like you didn't do what you did...and I'm just going to let that be okay?" You asked him, trying to keep your tone civil.

"Do you not trust me?" Kayce asked.

"Tell me how I'm supposed to with how you're acting?" You asked him back.

"So that's a no," Kayce nodded.

"How can I trust you when you won't tell me what happened?" You threw your hands up.

"Y/N...it's late, and I've had a shitty day," Kayce sighed.

"So have I, Kayce," You snapped. "I've been worried sick wondering where you were and what had happened. Do you know what's gone through my mind? You dead in a ditch somewhere and that's only the beginning. This is fair...what you're-how you're acting isn't fair to me."

"Then what do you want?" Kayce yelled. "It's for your own good, so I ain't talking to you about it!"

You looked at Kayce for a few seconds.

"Get out," You said with a low voice.

"What?" Kayce asked.

"Get out of this room," You felt your eyes water. "I don't...I can't...just get out, Kayce!"

Kayce looked like he was in pain but turned on his heel and walked out of the bedroom. He slammed the door behind him. You felt all the oxygen sucked out of you as you stood there. The room felt cold now as you sat down on the foot of the bed. Tears fell down your cheeks now. You had never fought with Kayce before. Sure, simply little petty fights, but nothing like this.

And all you wanted now was Kayce.

You willed yourself to sit there for another hour. You mentally fought with yourself that whole time about running after Kayce. You hadn't heard the front door, and since Kayce was in boxers and a shirt, you didn't think he left. Which meant he was probably on the couch.

Your feet carried you to the door as you opened it quietly, looking out. The fire was still going, so a warm glow was cast over the room. Kayce was on the couch, a blanket over him, awake and looking at the ceiling. He looked sad now, not helping the ache in your heart. You took a breath and walked out, making Kayce sit up and look over at you.

You walked over and sat down on the coffee table across from Kayce. He threw his legs over, so he sat properly, facing you. Your arms were crossed but the fire was warming your back now. Your eyes looked into Kayce's as you waited.

"I'm sorry," Kayce said, his voice rough.

You nodded your head but didn't say anything for fear of what would come out of your mouth.

"I..." Kayce sighed. "My father needed me to do something with him tonight. It took longer than expected and it wasn't the most...ethical thing."

You took a deep breath, feeling lighter with the information he was now giving you.

"Are you okay?" You asked softly and saw that it surprised Kayce.

"Am I okay?" He asked and you nodded. "Yeah, baby...I'm okay."

"That's all I care about, Kayce," You felt some tension be released. "I just want you home and safe."

Kayce leaned closer and ran his hands up and down your thighs, his hands warm against your skin. When he pulled back, his hands hooked behind your knees.

"C'mere," Kayce said, tugging gently.

You stood up and moved so you were sitting with Kayce, your legs thrown over her lap and pressed against his side. Kayce wrapped his arms around you.

"I sometimes feel I can protect you more if you don't know things," Kayce said. "I don't talk because I don't want to though...I do it because I don't want you involved or in harm's way."

"How's that working out for you?" You asked him.

"Not well tonight," Kayce smirked and then dopped it. "I'm sorry."

"You've said that," You told him, reaching up to run your fingers through his hair. "But how do we work to make sure I don't yell at you to get out again?"

"I'll remember this, don't worry," Kayce shrugged. "I'll talk to you...I'll work on it."

"Thank you," You felt a large weight off your chest.

Your arms wrapped around Kayce's neck as you hugged his tight, your lips pressing against his cheek. Kayce leaned back with you against the couch. Your lips pressed along his jaw now as his fingers dug into your skin.

"I don't like fighting with you," You mumbled.

"Yeah," Kayce looked at you. "Not a fan."

Exhaustion was seeping through you now though. Your eyes were heavy as you blinked. Kayce moved his arm to hook under your legs and he stood up, the blanket slipping from him as he walked back to the bedroom. Your arms held him tight as he placed you gently on the bed, crawling in behind you and molding his body to yours.

You sighed, feeling warm and calm with Kayce next to you in bed. His lips pressed against your neck as you breathed in deep.

"It's all I care about too," Kayce said after a few seconds.

"Hmm?" You looked over at him.

"That you're safe and home...this home, my home," Kayce squeezed you.

You turned in his arms and leaned your forehead against his on his pillow. The two of you tangled in in the sheets fell asleep a little while after, sleeping well through the morning.
