Request - I just can't let Oakley go! Please do a one-shot where Kayce is watching Oakley get the twins ready for school (kinder) and he tells her he loves her and their kids and it's all mushy and lovey!!
Author's Note - if you don't know Oakley and Kayce, they're from my stories For Him, I Would and For Her, He Will :)
"Lee Dutton...I will skin you alive if you don't get a shirt on in the next two minutes," Oakley ordered from where she was pulling Evelyn's hair into two braids down her little back.
"Come on, Momma!" Lee whined from where he pulled on his last boot. "I'm hurrying."
"Hurry faster," Oakley tied off the braid she just finished. "It's your first day of real school and we're already late."
"Not my fault" Lee marched back down the hall into his bedroom.
"How's that look, girlfriend?" Oakley asked Evelyn, both of them looking in the mirror.
"Pretty," Evelyn nodded, her hair identical to Oakley's.
Oakley pressed a quick kiss to Evelyn's forehead before helping her hop down from the stool she had been standing on in the bathroom. Oakley put a few things away in drawers while Evelyn walked down the hall and then down the stairs.
"Ten-minute warning, Duttons!" Oakley called out as she walked over to Lee's bedroom. "Ready?"
"Ready," Lee said, pushing his hair out of his face.
"You look just like your daddy," Oaklaye smiled as she turned the light off.
"Who looks like me?" Kayce asked, walking up the stairs.
"Me!" Lee laughed as he passed his father.
Kayce smiled, rubbing Lee's hair before looking over at Oakley who met him at the top of the stairs.
"Breakfast is ready," Kayce said. "Though we might not have any left for us."
Oakley sighed, leaning into Kayce and pressing her lips to his in a good morning kiss. Kayce's arms wrapped around her waist as the two of them basked in the silence for a few seconds.
Oakley's thumbs ran over Kayce's cheeks as his beard tickled her fingertips. His lips found hers again, slowly kissing her as his arms held her closer to him.
"Thanks for making breakfast," Oakley mumbled.
"Thanks for wrangling the kids," Kayce smiled.
"Dad!" Evelyn called up. "Lee pulled my braids!"
Kayce gave Oakley an annoyed look while she giggled.
"Daddy's girl," Oakley rolled her own eyes.
"Momma!" Lee's voice came out. "Evie called me a toad!"
Kayce's raised his eyebrow as Oakley laughed. Oakley gave him one more quick kiss and the two of them walked downstairs. Oakley grabbed the twin's backpacks as Kayce walked into the dining room and rounded up the kids.
"Hey Tot," Oakley smiled at Tate walking out from the kitchen, a banana in his hand.
"Morning," Tate yawned.
Oakley handed him his backpack as Tate took a bite of the banana. The twins ran into the entryway and each took their respective backpacks.
"Let's go," Kayce said and they all piled out of the house and into Kayce's truck.
Kayce pulled into the high school first, the parking lot already alive with teachers and kids. Oakley turned and looked into the backseat at Tate.
"This time next year you'll be driving yourself," Oakey smiled.
"Thanks for the ride anyways," Tate smirked, knowing how much it meant to Oakley.
"Have a good first day," Oakley pushed down her tears. "Love you."
"Love y'all," Tate climbed out and shut the door, walking over to some kids he knew.
"Daddy, how long until we go here?" Evelyn asked from her spot.
"About a decade, baby," Kayce turned the wheel to move out of the parking lot.
"God I'll be a mess," Oakley shook her head, saying it more to herself.
Kayce reached over and rubbed his hand along her thigh. The drive to Parker wasn't long and soon Kayce parked the truck, the four of them climbing out. Lee reached for Oakley's hand as they walked up to the school.
"Hey Dutton Family," The principal, Mr. Jonas smiled. "These must be the last two?"
"This is Lee," Oakley wiggled her hand in her son's. "And Evelyn."
Evelyn held onto Kayce's leg as she looked around, her little caramel eyes alert at all the activity. Kayce reached down and rubbed her shoulder.
"Welcome back," Mr. Jonas smiled as the family walked inside.
They got in line and grabbed the forms needed for the twins. Oakley was looking over their teacher's when she frowned.
"What's wrong?" Kayce asked her.
"They have different teachers," Oakley looked at him.
"Is that bad?" Kayce asked.
"Well...I guess not," Oakley read over the papers again. "I just thought they'd be together."
"They're together twenty-four-seven, baby," Kayce smiled. "Maybe this will be a good thing for them to be on their own?"
The bell dinged signally it was time to find classrooms. Oakley's eyes looked nervous as she looked at Kayce.
"You take Lee and I'll do Evie," Kayce kneeled in front of Lee. "Hey, buddy...Momma's gonna take you to your class but I want you to be a big boy today, okay?"
"Okay," Lee nodded, wrapping his arms around Kayce's neck tightly.
Oakley tucked her hair behind her ear as she leaned down to Evelyn's level.
"You be good, alright E?" Oakley smiled. "You'll have to tell me all about it when I pick you up this afternoon, okay?"
"Bye Momma," Evelyn let Oakley kiss her cheek before Kayce held out his hand to his daughter.
Oakley watched them walk off before she looked at Lee who was smiling up at her. Lee reached for Oakley's hand as they walked down the hall to a Mrs. Jeffery sign on one of the doors.
"Good morning," Mrs. Jeffery smiled at Lee. "What's your name?"
"Lee," Lee said quietly and Oakley squeezed his hand. "Lee Dutton."
"Nice to meet you, Lee," Mrs. Jeffery nodded. "You'll find your desk somewhere in the room...it'll have your name on it."
She moved on to the next child as Oakley pulled Lee off to the side and leaned down. He looked nervous, but also excited and it made Oakley feel better.
"See you this afternoon?" Oakley asked him.
Lee nodded slowly.
"Love you, buddy," Oakley gave Lee a warm hug before he walked off to look for his desk.
Oakley left, knowing she'd lose it if she stayed too long. She saw Kayce waiting for her outside on the sidewalk as she pushed open the doors to the school. When she got close enough she was surprised to see his eyes glossy.
"You too?" Oakley giggled.
"Damn," Kayce wrapped his arm around Oakley's shoulders as they walked back to his truck. "Thought I'd get used to that."
Oakley held onto his middle as the sun shined in their eyes.
"I wanna go get them," She said softly.
Kayce leaned over and kissed Oakley's temple.
"I love you," He told her.
"Love you more," Oakley smiled at him as he opened her door for her.
