Request – Could you do one where Kayce comes to pick up the reader from being part of an almost abduction from when she was volunteering on the reservation? Sort of like the one with Monica but obvious not Monica Lol
"Anything more you can think of to tell us?" The tribal police officer asked you.
"I don't think so," You shrugged. "Like I said, I just happened to be driving and saw the girl running away and something in me just told me that guy wasn't...good."
"No, he certainly wasn't," The officer shut his book. "We've been looking for him for two weeks now and so, thanks to you, we got him."
"But he killed those two girls already," You frowned, remembering the news.
"But this girl got away," The officer smiled. "Because of you."
"Will she be okay?" You asked him.
"No, but are any of us?" The officer stood up. "With your car damaged...is there someone we can call to come get you?"
There was a knock at the door and a receptionist pocked her head in.
"Commissioner Dutton is here," She looked a bit frightened. "He seems angry."
The officer looked confused at you.
"That would uh...be my ride," You stood up and walked out of the room.
When you got back to the receptionist you found Kayce looking irritated at the guard.
"He's just doing his job," You said gently, making Kayce look over at you.
"Are you okay?" Kayce asked walking over and holding your face in his hand.
"I'm fine," You shook your head. "Nothing happened to me."
"You hit someone," Kayce said.
"I killed someone," You corrected him.
You let out a shaky breath as the adrenaline from earlier started to wear off you.
"She done?" Kayce asked the officer behind you.
"She's done," He nodded.
Kayce led you out the door and back into the sunlight. You squinted as you walked over and got into his truck.
"Y/N..." Kayce said as soon as you both were inside.
"I don't know why I did it," You shook your head.
"Tell me what happened," Kayce reached over and held your thigh.
"I was leaving," You looked forward. "We had finished up with the breakfast and I saw movement out of my left eye...there was this girl running across the field...running for her life it looked like. And she wasn't dressed for the cooler temps we've been having."
Kayce rubbed your thigh, trying to comfort you.
"Then I saw the man chasing after her," You cleared your throat. "He was...he looked wild, angry...running after her. Saw the gun in his hand and I just knew he was gonna...kill her if he caught her. There was something inside me that told me that."
"Y/N," Kayce sighed as he listened.
"They were already headed toward the road," You hiccupped. "So, I...pressed the gas and then turned the wheel when they got close enough...I thought he'd stop, that I'd scare him. But I didn't...he kept running at me with his gun. So, I...pressed the gas and that was it."
A few moments of silence passed between you and Kayce.
"I'm sorry you were put in that situation," Kayce finally said.
Your eyes shifted over to him. You had expected him to be upset with you, he hated whenever you were in danger, but it drove him mad when you would do something stupid yourself. You swallowed harshly and nodded your head, not knowing what else to say.
"You told the officer everything?" Kayce asked.
"Yeah," You nodded. "They were...grateful."
"I'm sure," Kayce said. "They've been looking for him for-"
"Two weeks," You finished for him. "He told me."
"What's wrong?" Kayce asked you. "There's something you're not telling me."
"I just feel...off," You looked at him. "He was a bad person, I get that...but I feel...off."
"Because you killed someone," Kayce sighed. "Good or bad, to take a life is not an easy thing to do."
"Do you feel like this?" You asked him.
Kayce's eyes flashed hurt for a brief second and you knew it was hard for him to hear that from you. Kayce had killed people before, you knew this. But you didn't talk about it a lot because he delt with it his own way.
"Um..." Kayce shifted in his seat. "It's...off is a good way to put it."
You nodded your head slowly, taking a few deep breaths.
"I don't wanna feel this again," You whispered to him and felt a tear roll down your cheek.
"C'mere," Kayce pulled you as close as his truck's console would allow.
You held onto his arms as leaned your forehead against his. You were taking shaky breaths as his thumbs rubbed soothing circles over your jacket. He was letting you have your moment. Kayce leaned up and pressed a kiss to your forehead, sweetly.
"I'm sorry you had to go through that," He mumbled against your skin. "But I'm proud of you for what you did."
"Really?" You looked up at him.
"I am," Kayce nodded. "But uh...let's try to not do that again, alright?"
"Don't worry," You shook your head. "I have no intension of ever doing that again."
Kayce smiled at you.
"Sorry you had to dive all the way out here," You wiped under your eyes.
"Don't be," Kayce reached up and caught a few more tears under you left eye with his thumb. "When I got the call, I was already in my truck before they told me where you were."
"Thanks," You leaned in and pressed your lips to his.
"Ready to go home?" Kayce asked you.
"Yes please," You nodded your head.
"Alright, baby," Kayce moved to sit back in his seat, and you suddenly missed his warmth.
"Wait," You leaned over more, wrapping your arms around his neck.
Kayce held onto you, pressing his lips against your neck as you squeezed him tight. His hands rubbed your back soothingly as he waited for you to feel confident against to not need his arms around you. A few more minutes passed, and you pulled back, giving him a small smile.
"Ready?" Kayce asked.
"Yeah," You nodded, sitting back in your seat.
Kayce turned the truck on and pulled out of the parking space.
