Request - Can you do one where Kayce and his family go to the rodeo and he meets the reader and after watching her being in an event he asks her out?

Author's Note – So I switched this up slightly because Mutton Bustin' is my all-time favorite thing to watch and the story tat popped up was too cute to not put down. If y'all want one exactly like this request, then I could do that too...but this was too good to pass up!

There were tons of kids lined up for the Mutton Bustin' event. There always were, it was a crowd favorite. Who didn't want to watch little kids hold on tight to sheep as they ran full speed? You giggled to yourself as you watched a little girl slip sideways as the sheep took her a few feet. You looked at the line and saw another little girl.

"You're up, cowgirl," You smiled at her as she walked over to where the guys were waiting to help them onto the sheep.

You leaned against the railing as you waited for the next section to become open.

"Wait, Tate!"

You glanced behind you but felt a little force against your hip. Looking down you saw a little boy look up at you with big brown eyes. He was smiling, a small blush across his cheeks, as he leaned back from you.

"Sorry," The voice said again, and you looked up.

The man, who you would guess was the boy's father, gave you a smile. His had dusty blonde hair coming out of his cowboy hat, with golden eyes. He wasn't that much older than you.

"He's just excited," You smiled with a shrug. "It's alright."

You looked back down as the father patted his son's side.

"Unfortunately," You sighed, looking at the son. "The line starts back there."

The little boy looked over his shoulder at where you nodded and sighed.

"Come on, Tate," The father pulled on his son's shoulder.

"That's a long line," The kid, Tate apparently, said.

The father looked back at you and smirked. A thought struck you, simply because the kid seemed cute, and his father was easy on the eyes. He was probably married, hence the kid, but as long as you didn't touch...you could at least look for a while, right?

"I have an idea," You said, stepping out of the gate. "Follow me."

You waved to your team as you led the two over to the far side of the arena. There were a few sheep in a holding pin that you walked up to. Tate, leaned against the railings next to you.

"Hey Carson," You called out. "Ready to get the next group up?"

"Got someone to ride 'em?" Carson asked you.

You placed your hand on Tate's back.

"He seems up for it," You smiled.

Carson walked over and kneeled in front of Tate.

"You think you can handle them?" Carson asked.

"Yes," Tate nodded with a confident smile.

"Alright...what's your name?" Carson stood back up.

"Tate," Tate smield.

"Okay, Tate," Carson opened the pin door. "Let's get you fitted out."

As Carson shut the gate, the boy's father took his spot next to you. Leaning his arms on the top, he smiled .

"You didn't have to," He told you.

"Your son is cute," You shrugged. "And we also needed this next group to get some conditioning in before we release them out."

"Thank you," He smiled at you. "I'm Kayce, by the way."

Kayce held his hand out to you. You placed yours in his and it was warm, comforting.

"Y/N," You smiled.

"Are you from here?" Kayce asked, dropping your hand.

"Butte," You nodded. "Just here for the run."

"Not too far though," Kayce said.

"About two hours without traffic," You nodded. "You?"

"Born and raised," Kayce nodded.

You looked at him closer. Suddenly there was a familiarity about him you couldn't place. You knew you had never met him before, but maybe you did know him? Or know of him?

"What do you do when you ain't putting kids on sheep?" Kayce asked you with a smirk.

"My family raises goats," You said. "So not too different really than this."

"Goats?" Kayce looked over at you again.

"Mmhmm," You nodded. "Mostly for cheese."

"Oh," Kayce looked back at where Tate was sitting on one of the sheep. "He ain't gonna last."

"Thy never do their first time," You giggled.

The two of you watched as Tate took off, making it only a few feet before he slipped into the dirt.

"You're fine," Kayce called out. "Brush it off and try again!"

"Such a dad," You mumbled but Kayce heard you.

"Someone needs to teach him," Kayce laughed. "His mother certainly won't."

"She won't?" You asked, curious.

"Nah," Kayce shook his head. "She won't be in the same room as me for too long since our divorce."

"I'm sorry to hear that," You said.

"It was a few years ago," Kayce glanced at you.

"No, I meant that she still won't stay in the same room as you," You told him. "Your son doesn't seem to be too lost though."

"He's a good kid," Kayce nodded. "I know it's late, but I haven't been able to spend a lot of time with him lately, so I thought we'd catch the last day here."

"I'm glad you did," You smiled.

"Me too," Kayce looked back at you, holding your gaze for a few seconds too long.

"Dad!" Tate called out. "Did you see me?"

"You're doing great son!" Kayce smiled back. "A few more runs and then we gotta head home though."

"You know," You leaned on your side as you faced Kayce. "We don't load up until Monday morning...if you'd like to bring him back tomorrow. We just all sort of decompress and let the animals breathe."

"Really?" Kayce asked you. "You sure?"

"If you need some more bonding time," You shrugged. "I can give you my number and just call me when you're on your way and I'll tell you how to get in."

"I can get in," Kayce said but held out his phone to you.

"What?" You asked him, typing in your number.

"I can get in here," Kayce smiled as he took his phone back. "But I appreciate you letting me bring Tate back here to hang out. And thanks for your number."

"What do you mean you can get in here?" You asked again, wanting to know more and more now.

"The Livestock Commissioner can get into government buildings," Kayce smirked before looking at his son. "Let's go, Tate. We can come back tomorrow and play."

"Awesome!" Tate cheered as he ran over.

Your eyes were probably twice a big now after realizing why Kayce looked so familiar. He was the Livestock Commissioner for the State of Montana. How could you not recognize him? Maybe because he didn't have a badge on him? Maybe because his eyes were too golden?

"Tell Y/N thank you, son," Kayce held Tate's shoulder.

"Thank you," Tate smiled up at you.

"You're welcome," You laughed.

The two of them slowly walked off. You looked over at your crew and shook your head. The phone in your pocket started buzzing. You looked at the number and answered it.

"Hello?" You asked.

"Just wanted to make sure you gave me your actual number," Kayce's voice came through.

You looked behind you and saw him smirking at you from the door.

"Y-Yes," You cleared your throat.

"See you tomorrow?" Kayce asked.

"See you tomorrow," You smiled, your insides all warm.
