Request - Can you do a one-shot where it's Easter and the reader and Kayce have a five or six-year-old and you just found out you are pregnant and during the Easter egg hunt you hide a test or ultrasound somewhere to tell Kayce?
"Momma!" Your little girl yelled, holding up a pink egg in her hand.
"Another one?" You exclaimed.
"Come on!"
You watched her blonde hair flow behind her as she ran. Giggling, you walked slowly behind her in the pasture out behind the white church where everyone had just finished Easter service. There was about an hour or so left before the Duttons needed to head back to the ranch for lunch. You watched your little girl, nearly trip over her feet.
"Careful, Ruby May!" You hollered.
"Just like her Momma," Came a voice behind you before two arms circled your waist.
"I'll have you know, I can outrun you any day, cowboy," You smirked at your husband.
Kayce chuckled, kissing your cheek before letting you go.
"Daddy!" Ruby was jumping up and down near a tree and pointing up.
There was a yellow egg on one of the branches, way out of her reach.
"Daddy!" Ruby cried.
"Alright," Kayce whined, walking over to her. "Here, darlin'."
Kayce grabbed the egg and handed it to Ruby who then took off in search of more. The pasture was big, and even though there were a few dozen kids, there were eggs everywhere. You smiled as you reached into the pocket of your dress, your fingers wrapping around the green egg you had in there.
As Kayce walked back over to you, you gently placed the egg on the bush next to you. Smiling at Kayce, he shook his head as he reached you.
"Girl's gonna be a nightmare when she's a teenager," Kayce told you.
"Mmm, maybe so," You smiled. "But she won't be Beth."
"Well, there's that," Kayce nodded.
You watched his eyes look at the egg you had put n the bush.
"Ruby!" Kayce called out but your little girl didn't hear him as she was now chasing a little boy around.
Kayce reached over and picked up the egg. You felt your heartbeat pick up as he held it in his hand. He looked over at you and saw your face.
"What?" Kayce asked.
"What?" You tried to play nonchalantly.
"What's with your face?" Kayce smirked.
"Nothing is with my face," You snapped. "Open the egg."
"Why?" Kayce said. "I don't eat chocolate."
"Maybe it's not chocolate?" You shrugged.
"Why are you being weird?" Kayce asked.
"I'm not, you're being weird," You listened to how ridiculous you sounded.
Kayce laughed at you before he looked at the egg. His warm eyes met yours again.
"What's in the egg, Y/N," He asked.
"I don't know," You shook your heard.
"You're shit at lying, Y/N," Kayce used his fingers to pop up the plastic egg.
There was a folded-up piece of paper inside that he took out. You took a deep breath as you watched him unfold the paper with his fingers.
Kayce's eyes grew as he looked over what was on the paper. It was a small, black-and-white picture of the ultrasound you had gone to just four days before. You had been feeling off and it took you about a week before you remembered this was exactly how you felt with Ruby in the early weeks.
Kayce looked at you.
"Are you pregnant?" He asked.
You smiled at him and nodded your head.
"I know we weren't trying-Kayce!"
Kayce had scooped you into his arm and twirled you around twice. Your laughter was sure to make others look your way but you didn't care. When Kayce placed you back on your feet his lips met yours.
"We're gonna have a baby?" Kayce asked against your lips.
"Yeah," You giggled.
He pulled you into his arms and you could feel the excitement flow from him. It made you warm inside, knowing how happy this made Kayce. You had been ecstatic when you found out. Kayce shared his son, Tate, with his ex-wife and Tate was now eleven. Ruby was five and this little one would be along before you knew it.
"I'm ten weeks," You told Kayce as you looked up at him. "So still early, but I couldn't wait any longer."
"I love you," Kayce's eyes were soft as he looked at you. "Thank you."
"Well...this takes two, cowboy," You smiled.
"Daddy!"
The two of you looked over to see Ruby running back at you both. Right before she launched herself at Kayce, he had squeezed your waist. Kayce swung Ruby up into the air before she settled on his hip.
"My basket's full," She held out her little blue basket.
"That's a lot of eggs, baby," You smiled at her. "Think you need all of them?"
"I can share," Ruby said, looking at her eggs.
Your eyes met Kayce's. You'd tell Ruby later tonight, but hearing your daughter already talk about sharing things made you smile.
"Ready to head home?" Kayce asked.
"Yeah," You nodded.
Kayce held your hand in his free one as the three of you walked back to his truck.
