Request – Reader daughter is from a previous relationship and she's trying to keep up with the wranglers and tate. Kayce tells her slow down before they get hurt and reader daughter says "okay dad" tate starts calling her sister for the rest of the day after the work is done reader daughter wants to talk to kayce saying that she's sorry if she over step or embarrassed him kayce pulls her into a hug "its okay dalring"
You sat up on your horse as you looked back to make sure your daughter was good. It took you a second, but eventually you saw her next to Tate and smiled.
"Stop worrying," Kayce rode up next to you with a smile.
"She's not as experienced as you cowboys," You rolled your eyes. "I'm allowed to worry!"
"She's fine, Momma," Kayce slapped your thigh as he rode off laughing.
You kicked your horse, racing after Kayce as you all moved in a herd down toward the river. You all had spent the morning saddling up and having the day to just relax and be together. Kayce's family very rarely did this, and for today they invited you and your daughter to participate.
You had been dating Kayce for almost two years now, slowly learning more about each other and joining your two families. Kayce's son, Tate, and your daughter were only a few months apart and already had a solid bond.
Speaking of your daughter and Tate raced past you, laughing. You started to smile, until you saw just how close she got to the river.
"Hey!" You called out.
Kayce rode up in front of you.
"Y/D/N...be careful on your right!" Kayce called out, making your daughter slow down and look over her shoulder. "Slow down a bit, girl...you'll hurt yourself if you go crazy like Tate!"
"Okay, Dad!" Your daughter called out, turning her horse and moving back up the bank more.
You stopped your horse, surprised at what you just heard. Your eyes flew to Kayce, wondering if he caught your daughter's word choice. His caramel eyes finding yours told you that he had.
You didn't know what to say. You knew your daughter was incredibly fond of Kayce, the two of them getting along great since their first meeting...maybe even faster than you and Tate had. Your daughter's real father wasn't in the picture anymore and she had spent a few yeas without that figure in her life. While it terrified you to introduce her to Kayce, just because you never knew what would happen...you couldn't deny that in the last eighteen months, Kayce was a better father figure to her than her real father.
"She...didn't realize," You offered, nothing being able to think of the best response.
"It's okay," Kayce cleared his throat, smiling at you. "Really."
"You sure?" You asked. "I can talk to her if not."
"Y/N...really," Kayce nodded. "I uh...it's fine, promise."
Splashing sounds made you both turn around and see Tate in the river looking back at your daughter. They were both laughing.
"Tate!" Your daughter yelled. "You're gonna get hurt!"
"Come on, sist-ah!" Tate laughed. "We're cowboys!"
You watched your daughter kick her horse and follow Tate through the lower part of the river and onto the other bank. Thankfully, there were a few wranglers already over there to watch them. Kayce pulled his horse up to stand next to yours. You looked over at him with a small smile.
Kayce reached up and pulled his hat off, leaning toward you. Realizing what he wanted, you leaned in, your lips meeting his for a sweet kiss before he pulled back, placing his hat back on his head. Your eyes held Kayce's as he smiled.
"We haven't really talked about the future in that way yet," He said softly.
"I think I've certainly thought about it," You shrugged. "I was maybe a bit nervous as to how you thought."
"About which part?" Kayce asked.
"The part where it wouldn't be just you and me becoming a family...but our kids too," Your eyes looked over to your daughter and Tate.
"How do you feel about it?" Kayce looked at you.
"Well," You took a deep breath. "I think I'm terrified by how much I'd love it."
"Terrified?" Kayce chuckled. "What're you scared of baby?"
"Just life," You shrugged. "Not knowing what could happen."
"That's with everything," Kayce nodded. "But I don't intent to let that deter me from making you my wife and Y/D/N my daughter."
Your whole inside felt warm as you listened to Kayce. He was so sure of himself and this dream that you felt most of your fears slip away the longer you stared at his eyes.
"I love you," You whispered out, not knowing what else to say to him.
"Love you too," Kayce winked before he clicked his teeth.
The rest of the day was heavenly, spent on horseback and with your family. Once the sun started to set, the group made their way back to the ranch and dismounted near the barn. You handed your reigns off to Walker as you saw your daughter approaching Kayce timidly.
"Kayce?" She asked softly.
Kayce turned around and seeing your daughter smiled, leaning down to her level.
"Hey," Kayce said.
"I just uh...want to say sorry," Your daughter was almost whispering.
You walked a little closer but kept some distance.
"Sorry for what, sweetheart?" Kayce looked confused.
"Earlier," She said and you felt your heart drop some. "I didn't mean to...make it weird or overstep."
Kayce smiled at her again, understanding what she was saying now. He pulled her under one of his arms, hugging her against his side. Your daughter wrapped her arms around his middle.
"It's okay, darlin'," Kayce hugged her. "I actually liked it."
"Really?" She looked up at him.
"Yeah," Kayce nodded. "Don't apologize for saying that to me, ever."
"Okay," She smiled softly as Kayce released her, glancing at you before she walked up ahead of everyone and caught up with Tate.
Kayce waited for you to walk up to him, his arm wrapping around your waist as you both slowly walked back up to the main house. Your hand slipped into his back pocket as you looked out at the sunset and smiled.
