Request - What if they have an outdoor skating rink on the ranch and Kayce brings Y/N skating and helps her lace up her skates and teaches her how to skate and holds her?
"This is a mistake," You shook your head.
"Thought you said you trusted me?" Kayce smirked back at you.
"I trust you," You sighed. "It's me I don't trust."
"You'll be fine," Kayce reached back and laced his fingers through yours.
He lead you down past the barn. It was cold, but the sun was out for the first time in a week and it felt good in your skin. When Kayce pulled you around the bend of trees, you saw the pond.
But it was frozen over. The slick ice glistened in the late afternoon sun. The light sparkled into your eyes as the two of you stopped by a wood log lying down in the snow.
Kayce pulled off the two set of skates and smiled back at you. You raised an eyebrow at him, shaking your head softly as Kayce pushed off some of the snow.
"Sit," Kayce said as he grabbed the smaller pair of skate.
"Speak," You rolled your eyes.
Kayce looked back at you briefly before focusing back on the laces. You sat down in the log and smiled genuinely at Kayce. He finished lacing up the skate about halfway and then kneeled in front of you.
"Take your boots off," Kayce breathed out.
"You have a lot of orders today," You giggled, reaching down and pulling off your boot.
Your purple sock stood out with the white snow behind it. Kayce took the skate and wiggled it onto your foot.
"See?" He smirked. "Told you they'd fit."
Kayce started to lace up the rest of your skate. You had a funny feeling wash over you. These were Kayce's mom's skates. When Kayce told you he wanted to go skating, and learned you never had, he found the older pair. They were in almost perfect condition, and apparently fit you like a glove. Kayce moved to the other skate and slipped it over your other foot.
"You know how to do this quite well," Oakley told him. "For a cowboy."
"I've got a few surprises," Kayce winked up at you as he finished up the laces.
"Hmm," You smiled as Kayce then moved to sit next to you.
You watched him put his own skates on, setting his boots next to yours. Kayce then stood up and carefully step over to the pond. You watched as Kayce carefully test the pond before he slid out smoothly.
He skated around the pond twice before coming to stop in front of you. Kayce held out his hands.
"Come on," He smiled.
"I don't know, Kayce," You bit your lip.
"Y/N...get your ass out here," Kayce rolled his eyes.
"What if I fall on my ass?" You said, standing regardless.
"You won't," Kayce watched you closely.
"How do you know?" You stepped closer, trying to balance as you did.
You grabbed onto Kayce's hands.
"Because I've got you," Kayce held your hands tight as you slid right up to him.
Your noses bumped against each other as Kayce's hands held your waist. You held onto his arms as you glanced down at your feet.
"See?" Kayce said, making you look back up at him. "I've got you."
"Don't let go," You whispered.
"One step at a time," Kayce said.
Slowly, the two of you moved around the pond. Kayce held you against him, almost as if you two were one. You felt your lips smile as the wind blew your hair back. It felt good, being out here with him, just the two of you.
Kayce spun you around until you both came to a stop on the middle of the pond. The mountain range was directly in front of you and it took your breath away. You could see your breath in the cold air and knew it was probably time to head back with the sun going down. Kayce's arms wrapped around you tightly from behind.
"Thank you," You said.
"For what?" Kayce asked, his lips brushing against your ear.
You rested your hands over his arms around you.
"Bringing me out here," you told him.
"Thanks for trusting me," Kayce said. "Finally."
"I do trust you," You laughed. "Sometimes I don't trust myself with you."
"Why's that?" Kayce gently spun you around to face him.
"I get nervous," You said. "I don't want to mess this up...I really like this...you."
"You ain't gonna mess this up, baby," Kayce shook his head. "If anyone will, it'll be me."
"Doubt it," You smiled up at him. "You're the one dragging me out here. Pushing me to take that leap...or I guess that slide out, in this case."
"Only when I know I'll catch you," Kayce smiled.
You pulled yourself closer to him by tugging on his coat. Kissing Kayce was your favorite pastime and this was no exception. Sure, your lips were chapped and noses cold, but the kiss was sweet and warming.
"Come on," Kayce said. "Before you freeze."
He helped you back over to the log and back into your boots. The two of you walking slowly back around the barn and up to the foreman's cabin. Kayce left the skates on the porches turned over as you made your way inside.
A few minutes later and there was a roaring fire with hot chocolate being poured into mugs for the two of you.
"Feel like a kid," Kayce said as you handed him a mug.
"Well...I know cowboys drink whiskey," You smelled your drink. "But this warms the soul better than that stuff."
You took a long sip and hummed with the delicious taste on your tongue. Kayce reached out and tugged you closer to him but your jean loop, his head ducking down to press a kiss to your lips.
"Really?" You asked him after he pulled away.
"You're right," Kayce licked his lips. "That was better."
