Request - Maybe do one where Tate isn't adjusting well to having y/n around and Kacey ends up ending things with her to keep Tate happy and Tate sees how upset his dad gets and sets up a whole thing to get them back together.

You just finished blow-drying your hair after taking a long hot shower. You had been to a hot yoga class. It was something you had taken up for the last two months due to you one, needing something to do in your spare time...and two, it exhausted you enough to be able to sleep through the night.

You had gone through a pretty heavy breakup two months ago with Kayce Dutton. The two of you had dated for a little over a year before Kayce asked you to move in with him and his son, Tate. It was okay for about a week and then it wasn't. Tate didn't adjust well to you being there twenty-four-seven and ultimately, Kayce and you had a very long talk about it. At around two in the morning, the two of you had concluded that Tate came first, ending the relationship.

It had devastated you and, remembering Kayce's eyes from when you drove away with your things, he didn't fare well either. For a few weeks, you didn't leave your apartment in town. You had found a job at the community college in the next town over and that helped. But you missed Kayce.

Fuck, did you miss Kayce.

You turned the bathroom lights off and walked into your bedroom. Your phone on your bed was lit up, making you glance at it. You felt your heart drop into your stomach seeing two missed calls from Kayce about ten minutes ago. You must have been drying your hair and hadn't heard the phone ring.

Why would Kayce have called you twice?

Picking up the phone you saw there wasn't a message left, just the missed calls. They were about two minutes apart. You debated calling back. If Kayce had needed you, surly he would have left a message or texted you, right?

You pulled on a pair of old jeans and a gray sweater, flipping your hair out from under the collar. Sitting down on the bed, you pulled on two socks when your phone went off again.

Incoming Call : Kayce Dutton

Frowning, you answered the phone.

"Hello?" You said.

"Y/N?"

That wasn't Kayce's voice though. That was Tate's voice.

"Tate?" You asked.

"Yeah," Tate said.

"Tate," You stood up. "Are...are you okay?"

"Uh...no," Tate sounded like he was walking.

"Tate, where are you?" You started to feel off. "Where's your dad?"

"He's...gone," Tate said.

"What?" You asked. "Tate, where are you? What happened?"

You ran over and slipped on your boots. You made your way to the front of your apartment, grabbing your keys and bag.

"We were riding," Tate said, almost out of breath.

"Are you at the ranch?" You asked opening the front door and locking it behind you. "Are you near the barn? Do you see the wranglers?"

"No," Tate said. "I don't know where we're at."

"Tate...where's your dad?" You asked getting into your Jeep. "Can you put him on the phone?"

You were panicking now. As you pulled out of your parking spot you headed down the street, stopping briefly before turning left toward the highway. You've driven this path too many times to count. You could probably drive it with your eyes closed.
