It was always the same old thing. In the entertainment world.
Whenever there's a happy thing; like an engagement between a superstar and a normal guy; there would always be bad press coming out of nowhere. And it would be targeted at the normal guy. And this time, it's no exception. Between Wang Qing, the superstar and Feng JianYu, the University Professor.
Rumours began circulating online, AGAIN; about the professor's life before he came to China. About how he was with his boyfriend of ten years and fiance of two years; whom he dumped, according to sources, when he met Wang Qing when he came to work at the Peking University.
For approximately two hours, starting from 8pm that night; people who doesn't know anything about the Professor began slamming him; calling him a gold digger, a two timer and a slut among other things. They were indignant because he had betrayed his boyfriend of ten years, of course he could do the same to their beloved Wang Qing too.
Two hours later(9 am in Canada local time), the Mayor of Goderich Canada, a certain Mr Liu Hong, posted a public statement, in the town's official online page; and his statement silenced the two timing rumour.
As mayor and father of the ex fiance of the professor, he declared that it's his duty to set things right. His son and the professor had already went their separate ways for almost half a year when the professor went to China and met his current fiance and that his son had indeed got engaged earlier than the professor to a woman, though the relationship didn't work.
Who would be able to refute the statement of the father of the professor's ex fiance, the Mayor of a town in Canada; which was posted on his official page? Nobody.
And two hours later the rumour died down as quickly as it had sprouted earlier.
In the end just like any rumours created by bad press it would die out once someone spoke against it and be brave enough to say that, No, It's wrong. The story wasn't true.
But as long as there were no people brave enough to refute it, people who knew nothing about the person they're talking about would join in the hate campaign; bashing and slamming that person.
