She looked up at him. "Dijun, you're finished meditating. That didn't take long at all."

"No, I wanted to make sure I didn't miss anything with you," he said quietly.

She shook her head. "No, you didn't miss anything."

"Are you tired of waiting? Am I warm enough for my little fox?" he whispered.

"I like being here on this cloud with you. And you're perfect, Dijun," she said as she fell back into place against him and gazed out into the dark vast expanse again. Her complete trust in everything he said made his chest ache.

Dong Hua closed his eyes and projected his mind's eye towards the stars. The red giant stars were more luminous than the sun, and received their reddish hues from the lower energy density of their auras. He could sense that they would cluster and converge soon into formation.

"Xiao Bai, they'll form as buds and then they'll bloom as the stars reach the end of their thermal pulsing phase. When their red aura burns off they'll lose their sun-like luminosity and spend the rest of their life dying out as a white star."

"And this happens every 250,000 years. You've seen many of these over your lifetime, Dijun? '

"A few. But this is the first time I'm seeing it with you so in a way it's new to me."

"Can we wake Mogu? I know he's already seen this with you but I'd like him to see this with us, too."

Dong Hua turned back to see the immortal beast was lying on his side. The almighty god nodded approvingly as the majestic view of the overgrown fruits of his mount's cultivation was blocked by his modestly closed legs.

"Mogu, your mistress would like you to watch the Phoenix Flowers with us."

Immediately the massive beast was lying down next to her as she reached out to rub his chin.

Dong Hua leaned down and whispered over her. "Get ready, three ... two ... one."

"Dijun!! Look! Isn't it the most beautiful thing you've ever seen?" He locked his gaze down as her eyes flashed brightly and her mouth formed the most radiant smile. He was lost in that moment before he was reminded that this was his first time to see the Phoenix Flowers with her. He held her body close to his as he gazed out at the pulsing red stars.
