A/N: DongFeng is an emotionally charged ... thing. It holds a different meaning for each person but ultimately for fans of DongFeng, there are a ton of hopes and expectations, some conscious and some unconscious. I feel the responsible thing to do, since I've already decided, is to let readers know that Gun Gun will not appear in this story and to be honest I'm not sure when I'll get around to writing for the little dude. But if people are wanting that, he's in a lot of other fanfics.

I've decided to focus on Mogu's role in their lives and I want to focus on Dong Hua and Xiao Bai's ever-deepening best friendship and evolving romantic relationship. I want this pair to enjoy their time together. I know having kids is the thing to do for many people and there's nothing wrong with that. This story is, however, somewhat unconventional and I want family of choice to be just as important as one's own family of origin. I also want Feng Jiu to continue growing and maturing. Otherwise, it's just another situation of kids having kids (or rather kits have kits).

So Bai Gun Gun is a maybe for future future future books but Mogu is here to stay 🍄❣️

"Thank you for making it possible for me to be by your side," she whispered.

He gave a light squeeze to the warm soft bundle in his arms. "Was this supposed to go any other way?" he whispered back completely perplexed.

"I ... had a nightmare last night, that it went differently. I dreamt that you told him that you were having difficulties and that it was best that he took me home," she said quietly. "I knew that wouldn't really happen but ... still ..."

He looked down at her. "Is that why you woke up so early and couldn't sleep?"

She nodded, the side of her face still plastered onto his chest.

"And why didn't you tell me?" he asked quietly. He was the almighty god who didn't even need to sleep, yet he had slept through when his little fox had most needed him.

"It's sad. Why would I want to tell you?"

"So, I can make it better for you." He lowered his face slightly into her hair, taking in her scent of peach blossoms.

"You already did," she said with a finality in her voice.

That was when they both heard a loud heavy crash that made her jump in his arms as he placed his hand protectively over the back of her head. She could hear Dong Hua loudly sigh.

"What is it?" she asked, the timbre of her voice rising with anxious worry. He slowly released her which allowed her to turn around to see that Mogu had completely collapsed onto his belly. His legs had splayed out and given away underneath him, causing him to fall hard onto the white marble ground.

She ran over to him as Dong Hua followed closely behind. She stood over her mount and shook her head vigorously.

"I knew it. You shouldn't have been out!"

She knelt down and softly stroked his head. The beast looked completely embarrassed and was uncharacteristically silent as he stared at the ground. Dong Hua knelt down beside her and took Mogu's paw to check his pulse.

"He used much of his cultivation to come out here to talk to your father. Mogu put on a good show to look imposing and strong but he's still very weak from the surgery last night. His body hasn't had time to heal."

The almighty god couldn't help but respect his mount who while gravely injured, had bested a High God with only using lies and sass.

Dong Hua softly flicked the beast's forehead with his finger. "Giving your mistress a fright, are you?" The beast finally released a low deep rumble from the back of his throat. Mogu was pouting.
