When Dong Hua awoke his little fox was not in his arms. He sighed even before he opened his eyes. If he couldn't even keep her in his arms, how could he keep her safe?

It was still very early in the morning, and he was sure nothing had risen, not even the sun. When he opened his eyes, he saw that she was lying on her stomach propped up by her elbows and reading their book next to Mogu. Since the beast was illiterate, she was reading it out loud in a whisper. To Dong Hua's surprise the beast actually looked attentive.

Dong Hua slowly sat up. His robes were still stained with Mogu's blood from yesterday's surgery.

He found himself jealous that she was reading ahead and she was reading to the Snow Lion

He found himself jealous that she was reading ahead and she was reading to the Snow Lion. He sat wondering when he would get her attention. Neither the beast nor she ever looked up and he found that no one was appreciating his acting skills at looking dejected and forlorn. Soon, he thought, it would not be an act.

He decided enough was enough. He stood up and slowly walked over casting a dark shadow over the book, forcing them to look up.

Mogu nuzzled the side of her face and lowly grumbled his version of a whisper, "Mistress look, his intestinal discomfort has woken him up, you did not rub him enough last night."

She whispered back insistently, "I did too! I rubbed him plenty!!"

Dong Hua slowly knelt down before them. "Reading the next chapter, are we?" His face was indifferent but his tone was slightly accusatory.

He had quickly pulled the book away before she could grab it back.

"No, Dijun. I promise, I wasn't reading the next chapter," she said earnestly. "I promise!"

"Oh?"

"Dijun, I'm just um re-reading the last chapter. I thought it was so good, I just wanted to re-read it again."

Dong Hua looked down at the book and realized she was being honest.

Since he needed to re-read last night's chapter as well, he thought it would be a convenient opportunity to get the deed done while still being able to spend time with her.

"I thought the chapter was good, too, so I won't mind re-reading it with you," he said trying to sound casual about it.

"I'm sorry did we wake you up? I tried to whisper. Mogu has excellent ears so he was still able to hear me fine."

"It's barely even morning, why are you up?" he asked softly. He had a hunch as to why she couldn't sleep but she wanted to hear it from her. Suddenly, his mount opened up a telepathic channel to him.

Master, it is because you did not rub her enough last night. She still has the back pain.

Mogu, I rubbed her plenty.
