A/N: This chapter was written in the airport, on a plane, in a minivan, and now in a wood cabin. Your author is in Montana (NW U.S. near Cananda) for a Mind Body Stress Reduction conference on a fancy dude ranch. There is plenty of fresh air, mountains, and lakes. Lakeside, it reminds me a bit of what I think parts of Qing Qiu would be like. Because of all the outdoor space there is plenty of social distancing. I thankfully have wi-fi in my cabin and will update chapters as best as I can between the conference, horseback riding, boating, and hiking. ♥️

"Dijun, I love you," she whispered.

Dong Hua gazed down at her while she shifted in his lap to turn and look up at him. He leaned down to softly kiss her nose.

It was the first time in all the times that they were together where he thought he was the one who was dreaming.

"Hmm, am I dreaming? Hit me," he whispered into her face, his lips brushed down the length of her nose.

Her face instantaneously blossomed into a smile and then into muted laughter.

"Dijun, are you're making fun of me because I used to have that problem where I didn't know if I was dreaming or I was awake. But, it doesn't seem to happen anymore."

"And apparently, now I have that problem," he said followed by a sigh. "How will you ever convince me that I'm not dreaming? ... Do you know how long I've loved you?"

She shook her head slowly. Every time she blinked and her dark lashes fluttered he was reminded of how beautiful her eyes were.

"I have loved you while you were asleep ... while you were awake, and while you were dreaming," he said while he softly rubbed her earlobe and earring between his fingers.

Dong Hua knew exactly what he wanted to say next. He had been waiting for the day that he would get to say this to her during their waking life.

"I asked you to wait for me ... and so you did," he said it slowly and deliberately. He knew these words had already found a home within her heart. He wanted to pull them out of his to show her they were within him as well.

Her eyes widened and then searched his face.

"But how ... how ... how do you know this?" she asked as her brows furrowed in confusion. She thought perhaps she had been sleep-talking and that's how he heard her.

"It was me who asked you, so how could I not know?" He gazed at her warmly.

"But ..." She shook her head. "It was in a dream. I ... had lots of dreams with you," she said quietly.

He felt his chest was about to burst. He had never in his life prepared for moments like this.

"I asked you to wait for me ... and so you did," he said once more. "This was our other reality Xiao Bai."

A wave of shock flashed over her face.

"Every time you dreamt of him ... you were actually awake ... with me. I am Dream Dijun."

Her brow furrowed in more confusion and she dropped her gaze to the ground, looking left and then right as if she was desperately searching for something.

"Look at me, Xiao Bai." His hand caressed her jawline and guided her to meet his eyes.

"Do you remember when you first came to stay at Tai Chen Palace? That night when you accidentally sounded the bells in my room, I came to you."

She nodded.

"But you wouldn't believe it was me. You said you were dreaming. No matter how I tried to explain it to you, you still believed that I no longer held you in my heart. You thought perhaps I had you there because I felt bad and was trying to make it up to you."
