Sebastian and Rachel One Shots (Smytheberry)

125. Birthday Wishes do come true.

Skylar had walked inside his mum's house after he finished school at Dalton. His parents are separated, they never married and nor were they ever together, they co parent him. Skylar was a result of their West Side Story hookup his mum's senior year 16 years ago, and Sebastian his dad stepped up and would co parent with Rachel for the sake of their son, when Rachel had told Sebastian that she was pregnant.

Rachel ended up dropping her New York and Broadway dream despite her dads resistance because she didn't want Skylar to miss out on his dad and their families, and Rachel always suspected that New York and Broadway was their dream and not really hers since Rachel loved being a dance teacher. Skylar loved his parents equally, he loved that he got to spend time with both of his parents separately and together, but what Skylar wanted more than anything is for his parents to be together as a couple. It's his birthday wish every year, and every year it doesn't come true. 

As he sees his mum with other guys like Finn, Jesse, Brody and even Sam and Puck, and then Finn again. It upsets Skylar every time to see his mum upset and heart broken, and he sees his dad date and gets used for his money and status because of his granddad being a well respected DA. 

Rachel turned around as Skylar walked in. She smiled at him and said

"How was school?" Skylar shrugged his shoulders and said

"School is school. Is dad coming around for my birthday?" Rachel places her hand on Skylar's arm and said

"He will be. your dad never misses your birthday, and he especially won't miss your 16th birthday." Skylar was relieved, as this was one birthday he didn't want his parents apart. Skylar walked up to his room, and wondered if the reason his parents relationships don't work out because of having feelings for one another. Skylar knows his dad loves his mum as Sebastian had told him, Skylar doesn't know if his mum feels the same. 

Skylar was happy that he got to see both his parents for his birthday. After Skylar changed out of his Dalton uniform and changed into his new clothes he had brought the day before, he walked down stairs and saw his dad Sebastian. Skylar was always happy to see his dad. Skylar is at Dalton because of his dad, and he ended up auditioning for the Warblers and becoming captain of the group and even captain of the Lacrosse team too, but Sebastian and Rachel didn't know that yet. Sebastian hugged his son and said

"Happy Birthday Sky, how was school?" Skylar hugged his dad and said

"School is school, I actually have something to tell you and mum together, it's nothing bad I promise." As he said that Rachel came into view and she said

"What is it Skylar?" Skylar pulled apart the hug from Sebastian and said

"I auditioned for The Warblers, and not only did I make it on the team but I got captain and lead soloist." Sebastian and Rachel were proud of Skylar, and Skylar said

"And that's not all." Sebastian looked at his son and said

"What else is there?" Skylar smiled at them both and said

"I'm also Lacrosse captain too." Sebastian hugged Skylar tight. Rachel always worried whenever Skylar picked up the lacrosse stick, as she was scared that Skylar could get injured, but she always supported him no matter what he did, she wasn't going to be her dads who controlled everything she did growing up and choosing and planning her life before her, all she wants is her son to be happy. Skylar knew it worried his mum a lot but he also knew that his mum supported him. 

By the time it was time for Skylar's cake, Skylar watched as his mum would react and blush to his dad's compliments and touches of her hands, and came to the conclusion that his mum did love his dad. on the inside Skylar was happy and excited, and hoped that this would be the birthday his parents got together. As he silently watched his parents laugh he wondered all night what it would be like if his parents were actually together instead of being apart and co parenting him.

Skylar smiled widely when his mum brought out the cake with his dad walking next to her. He always loved his mum's baking. Rachel placed the cake in front of Skylar and said

"You know the drill Sky." Skylar smirked and said

"Yeah I know. Make a wish, hope for it to come true, and don't tell anyone otherwise it won't come true." Sebastian looked at Rachel and said

"See he knows, you don't have to remind him every year Streisand." Rachel rolled her eyes, as Skylar closed his, and wished for the same thing he wishes for every single year hoping it to be true

His Parents to actually be together, so they could be a proper family.

Later on after Skylar got ready for bed, he snuck out of his room and sat on the bottom watching his parents slow dance in the living room like they always did on his birthday, where unbeknownst to them Skylar watches them. Skylar always prays and hopes one year he would see them kiss.

As Rachel and Sebastian slow danced, they both felt content and happy to be with each other. Sebastian pulled Rachel closer and asked

"Do you ever wonder why our relationships with other people don't work out?" Rachel sighed and said

"Yeah I do. I always believe that it's because of me, and because they don't want Skylar." Sebastian tensed up, he couldn't and didn't want another man taking his spot of raising Skylar, the thought of that made Sebastian feel sick. Sebastian shook his head and said

"It's not your fault, and it isn't Skylar's fault that they don't want you." Sebastian and Rachel stopped dancing, and Sebastian placed his hand on Rachel's cheek and said

"And I'm not letting another man take my spot and raise Skylar." As he said, Sebastian then placed his lips on Rachel's and to Sebastian's happiness Rachel kissed him back. When they pulled apart the kiss Rachel softly said

"I love you. and I won't let anyone take your spot with our son." Sebastian smiled and kissed her and said

"I love you too, have since high school and i won't let anyone take your spot either." Rachel hugged Sebastian tight as they slowed danced once before Rachel lead him to her room.

Skylar smiled widely and was almost in tears when he saw his parents kiss, because finally after 16 years his birthday wishes have come true, now all he needs for next year is a new thing to wish for, even if it does take 16 years to come true.
