Chief Casey Season 1: Chicago's Newest Chief (Dawsey)

Chapter 1

Matt's POV: As I arrived at Firehouse 51, I was about to park in my regular spot from when I was still a firefighter here. That's when I remembered that I had a new, permanent spot in the back. One reserved for the Chief. Making my way into that private lot, I went to park in my space when I realized that they just changed the sign. Grabbing my bag, I walked over to the sign and went to rub it. It no longer said 'Chief Wallace Boden'. Instead, it now said 'Chief Matthew Casey'. Reading it still seems so surreal. Heck this day still seems to surreal. Me, the chief? That's when I started to hear someone walk up behind me. It was Donna and Terrence. "Donna."

Donna then walked up to me and smiled. "I am so glad you could come. I am so sorry for your loss." Donna nodded and smiled as she came to hug me. "Let me just say this before this goes any further. On behalf of Firehouse 51 and the CFD, I want to say that we are going to miss Boden so much. And know that you always have a home here." Donna smiled and agreed. "Thanks Matt. Just no pressure on Terrence to join." I nodded and understood. "Let's just say this. I am still not even used to that new sign there yet." Donna then turned to look at the sign. "It says Chief Matthew Casey instead of Wallace Boden. Surreal." I nodded. "I will get it."

Donna was confused. "Oh, you mean?" I nodded. "Whatever you need to grieve Donna, you got it. But listen, you are early and I am not ready. It's my first day and I need to go see the commissioner. I promise though, the minute I am done...I will come be with you guys. And I will also introduce you guys to someone special." Donna smiled and looked at me. "You mean your new son?" I nodded. "Yes, Wallace 'Wally' Bode Casey" Donna seemed chocked. "Matt, I mean chief..." I looked at her. "It's always going to be Matt for you Donna. And you will always be treated as the Chief's wife." Donna smiled when I said that. "Now, let's get you inside."

Donna agreed and smiled as I gave her my arm to lead her inside. "Anyways, I need to go talk to my men. It's my first day back. I don't think they even know it's me yet." Donna laughed and shook her head. "As far as I know, they don't. By the way, sorry you missed the funeral." I sighed and looked at her. "I had a lot to do. Had to sell the house in Puerto Rico, move here and then go through the rehiring process. So, I've been busy. Heck...I've literally been at CFD headquarters and at home. But bless my mother-in-law's heart. She's agreed to move in now that we have 3 kids." Donna nodded and smiled when we arrived in the firehouse. That's when everybody saw us. Walking in, I looked at friends/former equals and now, new men.

They then all walked over to Donna and went to hug her. Hermann and Mouch went first. "He will be greatly missed. I just hope that his replacement isn't some stick in the mud. I swear, if I get a new Chief that makes us clean the trucks when they aren't spotless or just because he can't see his face in them...I am going to scream. Don't need no pretty boy Chief. We need an experienced Chief." I then went to clear my throat and looked at them both. "How does 19 years in the CFD ranks go for experience Captain?" Hermann then turned to look at me. "You?" I smiled and nodded as he walked over to me, obviously excited about the fact I am the new chief.

He then went to hug me and smiled. "Oh, how's Gabby and the three kids?" I laughed and smiled. "Gabby's great...Matteo's turned into a devil at night, Ella is gorgeous and the best sleeper in the world at 4 months. And of course, our youngest is TBD. He's only 3 weeks old. And I just told Donna his name." Hermann then looked at me. "And it's" I smiled as I turned to look at Donna. "The new Wallace. Wallace "Wally" Bode Casey." Hermann smiled when I said that. "That is the perfect name. That is just a great honor for Boden. I am just so sad he will never get to meet him." I nodded and sighed. "Well listen, I need to actually speak to you in 20. I want to have a senior leadership meeting. We are going to speak before the ceremony okay? And this is not a social meeting, this is business. Understood?"

Hermann nodded and agreed. "Want me to get Severide?" I shook my head. "No, I want to meet my honorary nephew first. He's probably in his office. Oh by the way, don't you dare think I am keeping my bunk room office. I am going to be taking my chief's office. However, I am putting my Paramedic-in-Chief in that office. You are keeping the new office. That way, I have a bed here to stay the night." Hermann was shocked when I said that. "You don't have to stay the night." I nodded. "I know, I want to. I'm back here because I want to be. Now listen, I am going to go meet my nephew and go see my new honorary sister-in-law."

That at least was the plan until I saw my mom, sister and niece come in. "Not before you see us I hope?" I then went to look at my mom and smiled as I went to hug her. "Where's Gabby and my grandkids?" I smiled at her. "I am so glad you guys came down at Christmas. But, they are coming soon. You guys are really early. I am here because I have a meeting with the Commissioner. So listen, how about you guys go to my place with Gabby. Go meet him? Her mom is there but, I am positive that she would love to have you there too."

My mom smiled and agreed. I then went to hug Christie and Violet. "My brother, Chief Matthew Casey. I am so proud." I smiled and nodded. "Now listen, no distractions or drama today. I'm already sad that I am here. I mean, my mentor has died. That's why I am chief. Oh and I also have a hormonal wife home with our 3 week old son. Mom, don't even ask. I already have my mother-in-law living at the house we bought. But, I will see you at 10 okay?" They nodded and agreed. "Hermann, get the candidate to get me breakfast in my office. Pronto. I haven't ate yet." Hermann nodded and agreed. "Oh, and I am going to be delegating stuff. I want to be home as much as I could with my newborn." Hermann nodded and agreed.

Once I said that, I went to make my way into the offices to go meet my new nephew...Stephen Severide.
