Matt's POV:
After speaking to Lee Henry, I came out to the waiting room to see everybody there. "Okay, listen up everybody. I am done here and I just spoke to the candidate. He is suspended until further notice and is benched. He will stay at the house. Now, I am sorry that I took up a while it's just...I needed to lay down the law with him as chief. I don't know if you guys have noticed but, I have been pretty lenient with him." Cruz laughed when I said that. "And that's being nice." I nodded and agreed. "Unfortunately, we only had 30 minutes and I took up almost 20 of them. So, we are going to have to go back to the house." Gabby then smiled at me."How about you guys head to the trucks and head back to the house? I want to speak with Matt for a minute okay?" Everybody looked at us and nodded. Getting up, they all walked away to head to the firehouse. Meanwhile, I looked at Gabby and smiled. "Hey, what's up?" Moving to sit next to her, I grabbed her hand. "I want to ask you how you are doing. You seemed pretty worked up when you came out." I sighed when he said that. "I just berated him. Luckily I got a pass with his parents." Gabby nodded and agreed with me before going to kiss me softly. "You want anything for lunch? You head back to the house, I'll go say hi and then come join you for lunch."
I then thought about it and smiled. "I could go for that Molly's sandwich I like if they are open." Gabby then smiled. "You know they are Matt. So listen, I am going to take the kids to the restaurant, get you lunch and then join you at the firehouse again." I nodded and agreed as I went to grab her hand. "Have I told you how much I like having you on shift?" Gabby smiled and nodded when I said that. "We still staying at the firehouse tonight?" I then thought about it and nodded. "Yeah, we are all set up and Hermann is away so..." Gabby nodded and understood. "That means you have to get closer to the flames don't you?"
I shook my head and smiled at her. "No, it doesn't. Now listen, take a breather...get in the Tesla and then go get us some lunch. When you are done, text me and I will come help you with the kids. We can put them down in their cribs and cuddle up to one another while we eat in the office. The bedroom office." Gabby nodded and smiled when I said that. "We are leaving the cribs there right?" I nodded and smiled. "Just easier. But, we might fold them up at night." Gabby smiled and agreed. "But listen, I need to head back to the firehouse. I am going to just take a breather and go. I love you and I will see you soon." Gabby nodded and smiled as she kissed me.
I then got up and smiled as I went to kiss the kids quickly. "You guys be good for mama. See you soon, be safe and call me if you get worried or need something." Gabby nodded and smiled as she grabbed my hand. "Same to you." I nodded and smiled as I rubbed her hand before getting up and walking out of the ER so that I could go back to the firehouse.
Gabby's POV:
Once Matt left to go back to the firehouse, I went to get up and got the babies set up in their stroller. That's when I saw Hermann come out. "Shoot, did Matt already leave?" I then looked at him and nodded. "He just left, why?" Hermann then sighed. "I was going to give him my radio so that somebody could use it." I then smiled and walked up to him. "Here, give it to me." He agreed and nodded as he gave it to me. "Now, give me a hug." Hermann then hugged me and smiled. "How are you Hermann?" Hermann then sighed. "Scared."I nodded and understood. "You guys will get through it. You guys have been married over 20 years. Don't even worry about stuff." Hermann laughed and agreed. "And you guys, make sure you keep talking okay? I don't want anything like last time to happen. We both know you drifted apart when he became captain. He became a lot busier and you started to drift apart. You fought and it was hard to watch. Make sure you guys talk and don't worry about the ambo. Gabby, he may want you back but...take your time and enjoy the kids, you deserve it."
I smiled and agreed with him. "How is it that you always have the best advice? And not just advice when I need it but, when I don't think I need it." Hermann laughed and smiled. "Because I have been married almost 25 years and I can recognize stuff. It's good that you are at the firehouse just please, make sure he takes a breather every once and a while. Boden always stayed in his office and it wasn't good for his health." I nodded and smiled. "You read my mind Hermann. I made it a condition that he has to hang out with us in the common room."
I then turned to look at the kids. "Plus, when these guys are at the house...he can't keep his hands off of them. Especially that little girl of his. She's already got him wrapped around her little finger. But listen, Chief needs some lunch from Molly's." Hermann then smiled. "Hey, you mind getting us some while you are there?" I agreed and smiled at him. "Sure, let's put an order in together. They can make it while I am driving there. I'll stop in here and you can meet me at the doors when I am here. I am not getting out since I am headed to the house again."
Hermann nodded and agreed as he went to grab his phone so that we could put an order in.
