Chapter 70

Matt's POV:
As I finish in the bathroom, I smile as I come out to see Gabby laying down in bed waiting for me. Making my way over, I smiled as I went to get in bed with her when I heard Matteo at the door. "Daddy?" I then turned to look at him. "Hey buddy, what are you doing awake?" I then went to walk over to him and bent down to hug him. "You promised to come say goodnight daddy." I nodded and agreed. "You're right, I did. It's just...you were already asleep when I got home." Matteo just went to hug me. "Every night." I then went to pick him up and leaned back to look at him. "Is it because you are scared I won't come home buddy?"

Matteo looked at me and nodded. "Mama said you can die in a fire. You are there all the time, so..." I nodded and understood while moving to kiss his forehead. "I promise buddy, I am always going to come home to you. But, I'm sorry I didn't come say goodnight." Matteo just nodded and went to hug me. I then turned to look at Gabby and smiled at her. "Listen, I am going to go read to him okay? Get him to fall back asleep and then I'll come back up to bed. I promise." Gabby nodded and agreed. "You have to say goodnight to him every night now I guess." I laughed and agreed. "Not the worst thing in the world." I then kissed his forehead and smiled.

Matteo smiled when I did that. "Story?" I nodded and agreed. "Go downstairs and pick a book. I will be down there in a minute." Matteo nodded and agreed as I went to set him down before running away to his room. I then sighed while turning to look at Gabby. "A little delay in our plans?" Gabby nodded and agreed with me. "You going to go downstairs in your boxers or are you going to put some shorts on?" I thought about it and decided to just go downstairs in my boxers. "I am just going to stay like this. How about you find something on TV we can watch until we fall asleep?" Gabby smiled and agreed as I walked over to her.

Bending over her, I then went to kiss her softly. "Can you drive me tomorrow and stay until the first call? Matteo would probably like that. If you say yes now...I can tell him that." Gabby smiled and liked that idea. "I wouldn't mind not having to make breakfast tomorrow morning." I smiled and agreed. "I think Lee Henry is joining us at the firehouse tomorrow. I don't think he has classes on Saturdays. And you know, you could always bring a crib and stay until you want to go home." Gabby smiled and agreed. "Then that's what we'll do. Tomorrow, I am staying with you at the house. I can catch up with everybody. We'll drive in together."

I nodded and agreed. "Sounds perfect. Just no going on calls." Gabby laughed and agreed. "I am going to call Stella and see if she wants to join us. That way we can kill two birds with one stone. We can have a play date with our kids and I can hang out with you all day. But, what if Grissom says anything...." I shook my head. "I cleared it with him and told him that you will be visiting me all the time. I said we are keeping the firehouse as a community firehouse. That means you can come whenever you want." Gabby smiled and agreed as I went to kiss her softly. "Call Stella." Gabby nodded and agreed as I got up so that I could go read to Matteo, giving him some news.

Gabby's POV:
Once Matt left to go read to Matteo, I smiled as I reached over to grab my phone so that I could call Stella. I was glad that I was going to go to the firehouse tomorrow. I just hoped I wouldn't be alone. Pushing her speed dial, I went to put my phone up to my ear and waited for her to pickup. "Hey Girl! I swear, I need to thank your husband for giving Severide partial shifts." I agreed and smiled. "I know, I love it. Matt's just reading with Matteo right now. But listen, I am planning to go to the firehouse tomorrow for the entire shift. And I was hoping I wouldn't be alone."

That's when I heard Severide walk in. "Oh, then you are definitely coming in tomorrow Stella. Sorry but, if Gabby is coming...then I want you there." Stella laughed. "Sounds fun. However, you have to promise me you won't get distracted." I laughed when she said that. "Sure, like that's going to happen. Last time I checked, the son of yours is pretty adorable. But honestly, I am just going because then I have someone there to cook for me all day." Stella was confused when I said that. "How?" I smirked. "It's Saturday. That means Lee Henry is there at the house all day."

Stella laughed when I said that. "Then it's official. I am totally coming. If I don't have to cook or clean dishes...then I am totally coming." I smiled and agreed. "Make sure you bring toys our kids can share okay? I am going to bring a carpet that they can use to play on. Oh and we are sitting on the couch. I don't care what Mouch says." Stella agreed with me and laughed. "However, I want some of those famous Puerto Rico recipes Matt has been bragging to Severide about." I thought about it and nodded. "We'll see. But listen, we are going in together. You guys?"

Stella agreed. "We'll be there for 8. So, make sure you get some sleep girl. It'll be along day since our husbands are going to keep us there all day." I agreed with her. "Oh and don't forget a crib for your office!" She agreed. "Of course. Now listen, we need to pack. See you tomorrow girl!" I agreed and smiled as I went to hang up, ready to hang out with her tomorrow and see everybody else for the entire day.
