Matt's POV: As I woke up the next morning, I smiled since it was now time to head home. Getting dressed after taking a shower, I went to grab my phone and keys to try and sneak out of there when I saw Severide walk out of his office. He then looked at me and smiled. "You ready to go?" I then groaned and looked at him. "You need to calm down. Unlike you, I haven't sleep here in over 11 months man." Severide was shocked when I said that. "It hasn't been that long!" I nodded and agreed. "Investigation at Cabin and Puerto Rico from May to June. We stayed in Puerto Rico until last week. And we weren't here at all during the pregnancy." Severide nodded and agreed with me, seemingly shocked that it actually has been that long.
"What are you doing up this early anyways?" Kelly sighed when I asked him that. "Stella texted, she said to get home right away. Stephen hasn't stopped crying in a while. And you're my ride." I then remembered that and nodded. "I can't wait to show you something anyways." I then went to turn towards the back lot rather than our normal spots. "Dude, wrong way?" I then turned to look at him and shook my head. "Nope, come this way Severide." Severide then followed me out to the back lot and saw my nice, new Tesla Model Y that I bought with my signing bonus.
Severide then stared. "What the hell is this?" I laughed and smiled. "My new car." I then went to unplug it from the wall charger they have at the firehouse. (They've recently installed them everywhere to incentivize chiefs to go green.) I then hung it up and smiled. "Best part, free charging." Opening the back, I went to put my bag in there and smiled. "Now listen, I am just dropping you off. I am not going to come in and see Stephen or Stella. I am just going to stop, let you out and then I am going home to bed. I need to relieve Gabby." Starting the car, I smiled as I sat down and went to buckle up.
However, Severide turned to look at me after putting his bags in the back. "You need to relieve Gabby?" I turned to look at him and shook my head while slapping his arm because I knew exactly what he meant. He was thinking that I meant sexually (thought I was not opposed to the idea if she offered me the chance). "I mean I need to go help her with the kids. They are currently all fast asleep on our bed. So, I am going to go join them. Dude, she's exhausted. And Wally isn't 3 weeks for another 2 days. I am just glad she got cleared to fly under the circumstances. That was scary. Flying at week old. I am just glad Antonio and her mom helped us fly back. It was stressful." Severide nodded and agreed. "What was harder? Learning that Boden died or moving back to Chicago?"
I sighed as I started to drive home when he asked me that. "Honestly, it was equally as hard. I mean, he was my mentor man. Our mentor. Now, he's asked me to be the Chief. I am full of emotions. I am happy we have a new baby, but sad that I lost our chief. I am so happy that my birthday is coming up...but I am also sad that it's without Boden. So, it's a whole lot of mixed emotions." Severide nodded and agreed as I turned onto the main road to take him home. "So, you haven't moved right? I didn't even ask if I am going to the right place." Severide shook his head. "I was going to ask for help but, you have a young baby. However, feel free to offer."
I laughed and agreed. "Want me to ask Antonio if Diego wants to help you move? I mean, he'll do it if it's a paid job." Severide smiled and agreed with me when we started to drive down a main street. "By the way, I have to ask you about something...rumor has it Will and Natalie are having problems. You speak to them much? I remember you mentioning something about her being Stella's OB/GYN." Severide nodded. "Yeah, tensions about her possibly taking a new job in Seattle." I nodded and agreed. "Okay, I won't ask Jay about it. Probably not the best idea."
Severide agreed. "Still can't believe they are going for their 2nd kid already." I smiled and nodded. "Dude, remember who you are talking to. 3 kids in 16 months." Severide nodded and remembered that. "How is it anyways? You know, the 3 kids." I laughed and looked at him. "Like a party every day of the year. Let's just say that I am ready for this summer. I am going to book a week off and just go be with Gabby...no kids." That's when I started to pull up to Severide's place. "By the way, let me see your bling man. Haven't even seen it yet."
Severide nodded and agreed as he showed it to me. "Nice. But listen, you get out of here. I need to head home. Say hi to Stella and Stephen!" Severide nodded and agreed as he got out. He then went to grab his bag and smiled. "See you in 48 hours chief." I nodded and smiled when he said that. "And don't you dare forget that I'm your chief!" Severide smiled and nodded. "We'll talk on next shift. Safe drive home and go have fun with your kids." I nodded and smiled as he closed the door. I then went to pull away before going to make my way home to Gabby and the kids. God, I was ready to just get in bed with them and cuddle.
