Chapter 40

45 Minutes Later when Matt & Gabby are home:
Matt's POV: As I walked into the house after Gabby, I caught her talking to her mom...apologizing since she came home late. "Gabby, relax honey. It's okay that you were home late. You needed this time with Matt. I understand. Gabby, you need to take time for your marriage at least once a month while you are still on maternity leave. And once you go back to work, twice a month. Believe me sweetie, I understand that you are late. And I am glad. I hope it gave you guys time to talk and stay on the same page. Please, just relax and don't get worked up about it."

Going to take off my jacket, I went to get close to Gabby. Wrapping my arm around her, I went to kiss her head. "What did I tell you Gabby? She was going to be fine with it. Plus, what grandmother is going to complain that she got an extra 15 minutes with her grandkids all to herself?  Now listen, it's been a long 48 hours. I would like to go spend some time with the kids and Gabby. Just go lay down in bed and sleep. Plus, we are going to have a long night with kids walking up. Oh and tomorrow, we are just going to take the day in bed if that's okay Camila?"

Camila nodded and smiled. I then looked at Gabby. "Babe, just go upstairs okay? I am going to just grab a glass of water and then I'll be right up." Gabby nodded and smiled as she took off her jacket. "Can you hang it up?" I nodded while going to grab her jacket before looking at her dress. "Keep that on until I am upstairs. I am going to take it off." Gabby smiled and nodded as she stepped close to me. Putting her hand on my chest, she nodded as she went to kiss me softly. "Don't be long. I want to lay down in bed and relax." I nodded and smiled. "Be right up."

Gabby then went to walk away so that she could head upstairs. Meanwhile, I took off my shoes before walking into the kitchen. "How were the kids tonight Camila?" Camila smiled as she walked into the kitchen with me. "They were angels. All went to sleep at the right time and everything." I smiled when she said that before going to grab some water. I then turned to look at her and smiled. "I am glad it went good. I actually had a great night too. Got to see my first firefighter candidate." Camila was confused. "Wasn't Gabby one of your first candidates?"

I laughed and nodded. "Yeah, I mean as chief. I've had a couple candidates through the years as lieutenant and captain. But this one's my first as Battalion Chief." Camila smiled and agreed. "Listen, you guys said you were going to be staying here tomorrow right?" I nodded and smiled. "Yeah, all day why?" Camila smiled at me. "Then I might go out and have a bit of alone time shopping." I smiled and agreed. "Oh...Friday morning. I need you to help Gabby. We have a pediatrician appointment at 10. I am not sure whether I can go yet. I'm going to try and go."

Camila nodded and smiled. "Sounds good. Now listen, I am going to go to bed. I already did the dishes and everything. Had nothing better to do." I smiled and agreed. "Not even giving your son-in-law a hug." Camila laughed and smiled as she came to hug me. I then went to kiss her cheek. "Thank you so much for living here Camila. It means so much to me knowing that you are here when I am at work. Leaving Gabby here with 3 kids was something that I would've never been okay with. You are one of the only reasons I am okay with being battalion chief."

Camila smiled when I said that. "Now listen, I am going to bed. I am going to sleep in tomorrow morning." I nodded and agreed. "Good, you deserve it. I promise, every 48 hours you can sleep in. I would every 72 hours. So, I work Friday." Camila nodded and understood. "Sounds good. Family supper tomorrow?" I nodded and smiled. "Sounds perfect. But maybe family lunch instead? Might be easier since the kids won't be all crabby and tired." Camila laughed and agreed. "Spoken like a true father. We will do that. Now, I am going to bed."

I smiled and agreed. "Goodnight Camila. I promise to try and keep Matteo calm tomorrow so you can sleep in." Camila smiled and agreed as she went to go downstairs so that she could go to bed. Meanwhile, I finished my water so that I could head upstairs and help Gabby get out of that tight dress of hers.
