Chapter 61

Matt's POV: After taking a shower with Gabby, I smiled as I turned to look at her considering she was currently just laying down in bed wearing my t-shirt and her underwear. Tying up my belt, I looked at her. "We're good right?" Gabby then looked up at me. "Why wouldn't we be good?" I sighed and looked at her. "Because in the past 72 hours, we've had 2 fights that have led to major yelling matches." Gabby sighed and then looked at me. "Come here." I nodded and walked over to her. Sitting next to her, I went to grab her hand, intertwining our fingers.

"Matt, we're good okay? I don't want to district you from today so just relax okay...we are good. I am sorry for the fights we've had over the past 72 hours and I promise that nothing is wrong anymore." I nodded and smiled when she said that before moving to kiss her hand. I then leaned down to kiss her softly. "You are my anchor, you know that right? You being by my side means the world to me and I promise that it's not lost on me how much you are helping me in this. And don't even say you aren't doing anything. You are doing a lot Gabby, I mean that."

Gabby smiled and nodded when I said that. "Care to explain some of the things I am doing?" I smiled when she said that. "You are being the most supportive, beautiful wife and you are helping me by keeping this family together. Gabby, you know that I want to be here right? I really do. With the kids so young, I feel so bad not being by your side and helping you raise the kids like I promised. But, I also made a promise to the City of Chicago when I took this job. I promise them that I would be there everyday, doing my very best to help save lives."

Gabby then looked at me. "I didn't know you saw your job that way." I nodded and sighed. "Gabby, you of all people know I didn't take this job easily. Babe, I stressed over it for at least a week before I said I could do it. I was scared. I was scared about what it would do to us. And us already having marital problems because I took the job is not something I like. So Gabby, I am very much in a vulnerable place. If it came down to it, I pick you all the time okay? I am not going to let a job come in between you or our family. I promise you that forever."

Gabby nodded as I rubbed her leg a bit. "I know that baby. But thanks for saying it." I smiled when she said that and nodded. I then got up and went to kiss her softly. "Want to see me out? I have to just go say goodbye to the kids okay? They are all still asleep." Gabby nodded and agreed. "I'll make sure your laptop is packed and everything." I nodded and agreed as I got up and then helped Gabby get up out of bed. Holding her hand with our fingers intertwined, I went to grab my wallet, phone and keys before walking out with her.

Walking down to the second floor, I let her hand go so that I could say goodbye to the kids. "Laptop on desk in my bag. Just a bagel and coffee to go." Gabby nodded and remembered. She then let me go and headed downstairs. Meanwhile, I walked over to Matteo's bedroom to go say goodbye. Knocking on the door, I popped my head in. "Matteo, you awake buddy?" Matteo then turned to look at me. "Papa.": I then smiled as I walked over to him. "Hey Matteo. I then went to sit next to him. "I have to go to work okay? But you are going to come to the firehouse today."

Matteo smiled when I said that. "Can I sit in your firetruck?" I smiled when he said that. "Maybe buddy. But we are going to have supper together? I promise." I then bent down and looked at him, going to kiss his forehead softly before leaning my forehead against him. "Te quiero mucho Matteo." (I love you so much Matteo). Matteo smiled when I said that because he knew when I spoke to him in spanish, I really meant it. "I love you too papa." I smiled and looked at him. "Be good for mommy and make sure to help with your siblings." Matteo nodded before rolling over.

I then rubbed his arm before getting up and leaving his room. That's when I went to go see the babies in their nursery. Walking up to their cribs, I smiled as I went to bend down to kiss both of their heads. "Te amo bebes." (I love you baby boy and girl - said them when he kissed them individually). I then went to walk out and closed the door before making my way downstairs with some tears in my eyes. God, this is hard to do. I love them so much but I love my job.

Coming downstairs, I walked up to Gabby at the door and she knew I was crying. "Hey, you okay?" I nodded and sighed while stepping close to her. "It's not going to get any easier ever leaving the kids. And god, I need to stop saying goodbye in spanish. That makes it harder." Gabby smiled and nodded as she wrapped her arms around me. Doing the same, I brought her close while realizing she wasn't wearing a bra. "God, you are so sexy at times."

Gabby laughed and smiled as I went to kiss her softly. "Supper tonight, promise? I already promised Matteo he might be able to sit in the firetruck." Gabby nodded and shook her head. "Well looks like I am stuck coming to have supper with my husband at the firehouse." I then went along with her teasing. "Oh, such a burden isn't it...coming to see the man you love be all macho while ordering other men around at the firehouse." Gabby laughed and smiled.

"I love you Gabby." Gabby then nodded and smiled. "I love you too." We then both leaned in and kissed each other passionately before pulling away. Looking at her, I grabbed her hand and rubbed it. "You positive you don't want me to come home at all tonight? I can at least try and come help put the kids to bed and say goodnight. How does that sound?" Gabby smiled and agreed. "Yes, please do that. I mean if you can." I nodded and smiled. "Make sure you take a walk alone at some point okay? While the kids are asleep. Just go out and exercise. Clear your head."

Gabby smiled and agreed. "Just not to any of your scenes, I know." I nodded and smiled as I went to kiss her one last time. "I love you. Have a good day." Gabby smiled and nodded as she let me out of the house. I then walked out to my Tesla while Gabby stood on the porch. Once I put all my things in the back seat, I went to get in and pulled out of the driveway to drive to the academy. Waving as I drove away, I smiled because I have the best family in the world.
