Chapter 51

Meanwhile, downstairs with Matt:
Matt's POV: As I finished making the bed for Camila, I smiled when I went to set her bags down on the dresser we have in there. That's when I heard Matteo run in and move to jump on the bed. Turning to look at him, I laughed. "Someone is full of energy today?" Matteo then nodded. "Mama said I could come downstairs to ask you something." I nodded and smiled as I walked over to him. "You can ask me anything buddy. What's up?" Going to grab him, I smiled as I looked at him. "Can you make me some mac and cheese?" I smiled and nodded as I gave him a kiss. "Of course buddy." I then went to pick him up and smiled as I set him down. He then went to run ahead of me, ready to go upstairs and have some macaroni.

That's when I saw him almost run into Camila. "Careful Matteo, you almost ran into your grandmother!" Camila nodded and smiled. "I'm okay Matt." I nodded and agreed as she let Matteo go. He then proceeded to run upstairs again. "He came down and asked me to make some macaroni." Camila laughed and nodded. "I already know about that. Gabby was the one who suggested that he come down here and ask you take make him some lunch. Though I am not sure that giving him more sugar is the best idea right now considering how energetic he already is. I mean, do you want him to be even more energetic?" I laughed when she said that. "It's honestly fine Camila, just hope you get used to it."

Camila smiled and nodded as she walked up to me. "I am going to have to considering I am moving in." I nodded and agreed as I went to hug her. "Thanks again. That is going to be such a relief. Nothing that Gabby isn't here alone when I am on shift." Camila nodded and smiled. "You are doing the right thing Matt. I already know about Chief Boden's will and how it was his last wish that you take over for him. I know that probably put a lot of pressure on you." I sighed when she said that and nodded before going to sit on the couch. "It's hard balancing everything. I am just scared that I am going to take too much on and it's going to screw up my marriage." Camila nodded and agreed as she came to sit next to me.

Grabbing my hand, Camila smiled at me. "Matt, you are doing what a normal father does on a daily basis. You go to work and do what you do to pay the bills. That keeps the lights on and your family fed." I agreed and nodded while looking at her. "Matteo is not dealing with it the best. So you moving in might really help. That way he can be excited about his grandmother living with us instead of being sad that his dad is always at work." Camila then looked at me. "It's bothering you a lot isn't it Matt?" I sighed and nodded. "Yeah, it's a lot. I am just worried that I am going to end up being absent from his life. I grew up without a father...so I  refuse to let them happen to my kids." Camila nodded as she rubbed my back.

"Matt, as long as you try your best...then you are going to succeed at your job of being both the best father and best chief in the city of Chicago. Believe in yourself and you will be great." I nodded and agreed, smiling at her. "Listen, you unpack and take your time. I need to get upstairs and go make Matteo some macaroni like he asked." Camila nodded and agreed as I got up before proceeding to make my way upstairs. That's when I saw Matteo standing on the counter, reaching into the cupboards to grab the macaroni. "Woah there Matteo. You are not allowed to do that little man." I then went to get him off and set him down on the ground. Bending down, I looked at him. "You could've really hurt yourself bud."

Matteo then looked at me and then went to hug me. "Sorry daddy." I nodded and held him close before smiling. "Listen buddy, how about you go sit on the couch? Grandma can turn the TV onto an appropriate channel for you and you can watch TV together. Then, I will make us some lunch." Matteo agreed and nodded as he went to run away to the living room. Meanwhile, I got up and looked at Camila. "I meant it Camila, you can't ever watch that channel here anymore." Camila nodded and agreed. "Of course. Now, I am going to go watch TV with him." I smiled and nodded while going to grab a pot so that can make Matteo some macaroni while he watches TV with Camila. That's when I felt Gabby walk over to me.

"Trust me Matt, I am never got to let her watch that channel again." I then turned to look at Gabby and smiled. "Hey, I didn't see you there." I smiled. "We are all down here. We can stay here this afternoon okay?" I nodded and smiled as I wrapped my arm around her. "Matteo wants some macaroni. What do you want or can we just all have that?" Camila then looked at me. "I am okay with that. Sounds like fun." I laughed when she said that and nodded. "I can make you chicken to go with it. I know you need extra protein for the babies." Gabby then smiled. "Can you cook the ground beef and put it in the macaroni?" I nodded and agreed. "Sounds good."

Gabby smiled when I said that. "Listen, I am going to go relax with Matteo and my mom. You just keep cooking. After that, put it in some bowls and then bring it to us." I then looked at her. "How about you feed the babies before we have lunch? Then they can relax. Maybe ask your mom to feed one of the babies." Gabby smiled and agreed as she went to grab some bottles out of the fridge. "Good idea. Now, get cooking." I agreed and nodded as I went to grab everything I needed to make some ground beef macaroni while Gabby got some milk ready for the babies.
