Matt's POV: After rushing to the hospital with Gabby (and luckily, not having her get a speeding ticket), we both parked next to each other. I then went to look at her while opening the passenger sliding door. "We doing the stroller or just holding them in my lap?" Gabby then looked at me. "Depends, you taking 51 out of service?" I then bit my lip and then went to grab my radio that I had on me. "Chief Casey to dispatch." Dispatch then responded. "Go ahead chief Casey." I then spoke. "Can you take 51 out of service for 30? Man down at hospital. Just checking on him. I will reply when we are back at the house. That okay?"
Dispatch then agreed. "Understood chief Casey. 61 out of service as well?" I agreed. "Yes." I then went to put my radio down before going to grab Ella. I then looked at Gabby. "Let's take the stroller. You are going to want to be there for Hermann and Cindy." Gabby agreed and then went to get it out of the Tesla. Carrying both the kids, we then put them in the stroller before looking at each other. "We have 30 minutes out of service. I have to tell them that." Gabby agreed and nodded as she wrapped her arm around me. Walking in together, we both sighed because we knew that this might be the end of Lee Henry's career.
Walking into the ER, I turned to look at everybody. "Quick announcement 51, we have 25 minutes here. Then, we are back at the house understood?" Everybody nodded and agreed. I then went to look at them all. "What room is Lee Henry in?" That's when I heard Hermann come out. "He's being checked out by a doctor right now. However, I am letting you know that I am leaving for the day okay? We need to talk to him." I then agreed and went to grab his radio from him. "What does this mean for his future? Is Cindy even more skeptical?" Cindy then walked out to look at me. "Relax Matt, it wasn't your fault. It was his fault."
Hermann nodded and agreed. "I told her that he was explicitly told that he was not to be alone on the apparatus floor. And since we were all in the firehouse...he should've been in there. He saw us all in there. So, we are not at fault...he is. Listen Cindy, can you go sit with him? I want to speak with Matt quickly about stuff." Cindy nodded and agreed as she looked at Gabby. "How are you doing Gabby? We should really get together sometime." Gabby smiled and nodded as she went to hug her. "Come to the firehouse any day. I am there all the time. I decided to just be there with Matt because I want the kids to see him more often."
Cindy nodded and agreed. "I will consider it. Maybe I can come hang out when Lee Henry goes back to work. Sorry but, I want to be there with him for a bit. At least at the firehouse." Gabby smiled. "Oh, that would be awesome. You can catch up with the kids." Cindy smiled and nodded before going to look at them in the stroller. "Oh god, they are precious." Gabby smiled and nodded as she went to rub her back. "Now, does Lee Henry have a concussion or anything?" Hermann sighed and agreed. "Yeah so, he has to heal from that."
I agreed. "Okay then here's what we'll do. He can come to shift but...he stays in the common room. Can I speak with him or is it too early?" Hermann nodded and agreed. "You want to tell him the new rules?" I nodded and sighed. "If he hears it from you, it's easier to get out of. I want him to hear it from me. By the way Cindy, I am going to tell him that he has to follow these rules or else I am not taking him as a candidate. Until he is graduated, I can still back out. I get you want him at our house because Hermann is there but...he needs to understand that when he is at work, we are his bosses. If he thinks we are more his cool aunts and uncles, then that won't work." I then turned to look at Severide. "Severide."
Severide then turned to look at me and got up. "What's up man?" I then looked at him. "I want to run something by you. I want to tell Lee Henry that he needs to treat us as his bosses and not family until he is a full firefighter. I have also said that if he doesn't...I am going to kick him out of 51. That okay with you guys?" Hermann and Cindy then looked at each other and nodded. "You are the chief." I then sighed. "It's just...I can't spend my time tip toeing around the candidate. If he can't follow orders, then he has no place at 51. That's final. If he becomes a liability, then he is out. I am not going to risk my men's lives." We all agreed when I said that. "Now, I am going to go talk to him with his parents. Severide, just stay here."
Gabby then looked at me. "I'll stay here. We can go back after." I nodded and agreed as I prepared to go into the ER to speak to Lee Henry.
