Q: When the sponsored candidates come in from the academy, who do they answer to?
A: When they are here at the house, they will answer to their future leader. So, for Squad Candidates...that would be Severide. For truck candidates, that would be Hermann and/or their designated Lieutenants whom you can choose to be in charge of your candidates. However, I would like to start with answering to their truck leaders since they are senior officers.

Q: Are they going to take over the regular "candidate" tasks such as cooking, etc?
A: No, but they can assist. I expect the current candidates to assist them in whatever way they can. If they have questions about how candidacy works, I will direct them towards our current candidate and you are expected to answer. Our captains can also use their current candidates as mentors. They can give them tasks and ask them to show the future candidate stuff to do.

Q: Are we expected to grade them or are we just giving them pointers on how to do stuff?
A: I will have to speak more to the academy/other chiefs about it because we are not sure if it will become part of the grading system or if it will be voluntary. However, I do not want you to be as hard as them when it comes to them being confused. As they are not yet full candidates...they are still learning and therefore should be given the chance to learn while at the firehouse.

Q: Are the junior candidates going to work the same hours as us?
A: I would have to speak to the other chiefs about that. However, I believe they should so that they can get used to the schedule we work. It can help them get their bodies and minds into the mindset that they are going to have to opperate on less sleep. I will however be adding more beds into the firehouse if they stay over. At the end of the day, it depends on their schedule.
