Matt's POV: After giving Matteo a quick ride around the block, we got out of the truck and I bent down to look at him. "What did you think about that Matteo?" Matteo then walked up to me and hugged me before giving me a kiss on the cheek. "I love you daddy." I smiled when he said that before going to kiss his head. "I love you too buddy. And we can do that sometimes. Butnot every shift okay? Only when I say so." He nodded and agreed. Grabbing his hand, I then went to lead him around the truck to go back into the firehouse. That's when I saw Gabby waiting for us at the door. "So, how did it?" Matteo smiled. "I loved it. Daddy let me put the lights and sirens on." Gabby then smiled at me when he said that. "Well, I hope you had fun. But, it's lunch time."
Matteo then looked at her and smiled. "What are we having for lunch today mommy?" Gabby then smiled. "How about you go ask uncle Hermann?" He then nodded and agreed while rushing in. "Hermann cooked?" Gabby then shrugged. "He said that Cindy made something for the firehouse and he brought it in. I am giving him the benefit of the doubt. Why would he lie about that when he knows that we all hate his cooking." I laughed and agreed with her because of how true that statement was. Hermann was a horrible cook and it was one of the main reasons that we didn't let him get anywhere near the kitchen both here and at Molly's.
Grabbing Gabby's hand and intertwining our fingers, I smiled as we walked into the common room together. "By the way, are the babies still taking a nap?" Gabby agreed and smiled. "Yes, so you can come have those leftovers that I put in the fridge for..." That's when she looked at Mouch who was eating my leftovers. "MOUCH!" Gabby then walked over to him and grabbed the food. "Hey!" Gabby then stared at him. "Those are our leftovers. I made them especially for Matt. It's his birthday shift you dimwit!" Gabby then walked away to the kitchen, frustrated with Mouch. I then sighed and looked at him, putting my hand on his shoulder. "This is why you do not eat other people's food Mouch. Thought we taught you better than this."
Walking over to the kitchen with Gabby, I then went to see she was trying to fix something up with what was left of the food when I wrapped my arms around her. "Gabby, it's okay. I can eat something else." Gabby then sighed when I said that, turning around to look at me. "That's not the point Matt. I bring stuff here for us to eat. Stuff that I learned to make in Puerto Rico that I know you like and can't get in restaurants around here. That's why I was frustrated. It's because of the fact that I specifically made this for you, using a recipe I got in Puerto Rico for your pre-birthday shift where we celebrated." I then nodded while rubbing her arm. "You can always make me another one for my birthday shift where I expect you to come in again."
Gabby smiled when I said that. "I think I will. Matteo seems to like it here, it gives me help watching him and the kids and it also allows us to see each other all day, be with the kids all day and experience stuff that we normally wouldn't experience. However, just don't get used to it. When I am back at work, the kids are not coming in on our shifts because that would be too much to handle." I nodded and agreed with her while wrapping my arms around her waist and moving to kiss her softly. "I love you Gabby and I am going to do whatever you need. I promise." We both agreed when I said that. Once I finished hugging her, I went to grab the food she made and then went to sit at the table. "Okay, so now that we have gotten past that..."
Everybody then turned to look at me and smiled. "How was the ride in the truck with Matteo?" I smiled when they asked. "It was amazing. Not only because it was me and Matteo in the truck together but because it was something I never thought I would experience. Me and Louie never got to do it." Gabby then looked at me and nodded. That's when Matteo walked over to us. "Papa, who's Louie?" I then sighed when he asked that. "Buddy, he was a kid we looked after for a while. Like babysitting." Matteo then nodded and agreed but, Hermann just looked at me. "No, you..." I then sighed. "Hermann, he's 18 months old. You really think he understands?"
Hermann then laughed and agreed that he probably didn't even understand what an adoptive child is compared to a normal child. That's when Gabby looked at me and smiled. "You did a great job explaining it and I am glad you did that." I nodded and agreed as I went to grab her hand. Rubbing it, I smiled as we held each other close. That's when Stella decided to walk over to us and sat in front of us. "So, we have all been waiting to ask this but...we all know about your vow renewal in Puerto Rico. We haven't asked yet because we wanted to let you settle in. But now that you are settled in, I want details!" Gabby laughed as she said that before nodded as she prepared to explain what happened during our vow renewal in Puerto Rico last year.
NOTE #1: The next chapter is going to be a flashback to their vow renewal in Puerto Rico.
NOTE #2: Matt and Matteo both got baptized into the catholic faith in Puerto Rico. (Sorry if I have mentioned something different in this story in the past. I just need to change that for the purpose of the next couple chapters.)
