Chapter 31

An Hour and a Half Later when the 2 babies are asleep:
Matt's POV: After putting the babies to sleep, I smiled as I walked over to bed where Gabby was currently resting with Matteo. He was currently just doing some coloring on the bed. "Thank god we have a dark comforter." Gabby laughed when I said that before feeling me get in bed with her under the covers. Wrapping my arm around her, I smiled as she cuddled up to me. I then looked down at her and smiled as I went to kiss her softly. "I love you." Gabby smiled when I said that and then just grabbed my hand. "Listen, can we just get the appointment chat over?"

I nodded and went to intertwine our fingers. "I am going to try and be there okay Gabby. It's just...it's not like how it was with Matteo. Would I like it to be that way...of course I would. I would love to be able to just drop everything and be there for everything. You know that right?" Gabby looked up at me and nodded. "It's just...with Severide out for a bit, I am down a Lieutenant and have appointed Cruz as the temporary Lieutenant. I just hope he agrees to take the Captain exam. That way, I can have Cruz as a permanent Lieutenant and another officer."

That's when I got a text on my phone. It was from Severide. 'Can you send me to information for the captain exam? I'll do it if you let me take leave in March 17th-31st. There's a writing on March 29th.'  I was shocked when I got that text and looked at Gabby. "Can you read that text for me and make sure that I am not dreaming?" Gabby then went to grab my phone and read it. "Severide just agreed to take the exam at the next sitting. Wow. That's different." I then went to text him back. 'Sure, I'll send it to you later. Family nap time right now.'  I then went to set my phone down on my chest while looking at Gabby. "That's going to be helpful. And solve a lot of my problems."

Gabby then looked up at me. "What problems? Matt, forget what I said about me not wanting you to bring work home....that's inevitable. I can't have it both ways. I can't both have you home as much as possible and not want you to bring work home. It's not fair to you." I smiled when she said that. "It was just about a scene. I had a rank issue. I mean, not me but...Cruz. We ran into Captain Patterson. His squad captain outranks mine. I hated it because I wasn't in control of what should've been my scene since I was there first. He was backup."

Gabby sighed and nodded as she went to cuddle up to me, wrapping her arms around my torso. "That's a tough one." I nodded and agreed as I went to rub her arm. "Tonight, what do you say we just order some Molly's? I can go pick it up and then get our latest check." Gabby smiled when I said that. "That sounds perfect. Maybe we can get my mom to watch the kids for a minute and we can go together. You know, a little date for like 20 minutes." I laughed when she said that. "That's probably going to be our dates for a while isn't it?"

Gabby sighed when I said that. I then moved to wrap my arm around her head and pulled a strand of her hair behind her ear. "What's wrong Gabby?" Gabby sighed and looked at me. "It's just, this is going to be complicated. Us not having dates as much...that might not be good for us." I sighed and looked at her. "Gabby, we are going to be fine. I love you and I am not going anywhere. I am committed to putting our marriage first. Always have and always will." Gabby smiled when I said that before going to rub my chest.

"I have the weekend off just to let you know. I work Friday. Another 24 hour shift." Gabby nodded and agreed. "That's fine. I have stuff I can watch Friday nights. My mysteries and stuff." I smiled and agreed. "Good, as long as you keep busy. I might try and swing by before the kids go to bed." Gabby nodded and liked the sound of that. "Good, because I am not bringing the kids to the firehouse. Sorry, that was too much. I got so stressed right after that. I mean, when I got home. I got a bit worried I forgot stuff there." I then looked at her and sighed while kissing her head.

"Call me next time okay? I will always be here to help you calm down. You know my voice can do wonders in calming you down." Gabby smiled when I said that before nodding. That's when I started to feel something dripping on my shirt. I then sighed and looked under her shirt. "I'm going to get the pump okay Gabby?" Gabby then looked down. "Am I leaking?" I nodded and pointed to my shirt. "It's okay. I find it sexy." Gabby laughed when I said that. I then sighed when I heard my phone ring. I went to look at it and saw it was the Academy. 

I then looked at Gabby. "Sorry Gabby, chief stuff." Gabby then looked at me. "Babe..." I looked at her. "It's the Academy. Might be about my request for Lee Henry as candidate starting this July. If it's him...then we can start him sooner and at least get him used to the house. Also, I can make sure he gets some good recipes mastered. Not sure who's cooking skills he earned." Gabby then stared at me and nodded. I then got up and smiled to go talk to the Academy, hoping that we get Lee Henry as a candidate.
