Matt's POV: After having breakfast as I family, I was now in the midst of doing the dishes when Camila walked over to me. "You sure you don't want me to do those Matt?" I then turned to look at her and shook my head. "Of course not Camila. You go relax. You do enough for us without us even having to ask. However, I am positive that my sister is going to be dropping by at some point today. Either her or my mom." Camila nodded and agreed with me. "Hey just curious, I've been meaning to ask if I should consider moving in here?" I turned to look at her and bit my lip because I didn't know the answer to that question. "Honestly, I am not sure what to tell you."
Camila nodded and understood. "Talk it over sometime with Gabby. No pressure but...I want to know before the end of the month. That way I can give my notice and spend the last 2 months going through all of mine things. I can also move in slowly rather than right away." I thought about it and nodded. "Honestly, if you are asking me...I think that'd be a great idea. That way you can help with Matteo and Ella since they are older. I am positive Gabby is going to be itching to get back to work as soon as possible, but I want her to take longer than just until April. That's when he maternity leave is scheduled to end."
Camila sighed when I said that. "She's thinking of going back when Sylvie goes on maternity leave." I was shocked when she said that. "That's next week so, that's not happening! I already have a paramedic coming in that I have to meet Friday to formalize her appointment as the new interim paramedic-in-chief until Stella comes back March 1st as the new Paramedic-in-Chief." Camila was confused when I said Stella. "Stella is..." I nodded, understanding why she asked that. "My best friend's wife. She's the Lieutenant on Engine 51."
Gabby's mom nodded and understood. "Well, you can talk to Sylvie today. Last time I checked, they were going to come today. Are you okay with that?" I laughed and agreed. "Considering that's not going to be happening until later when Antonio is off shift, of course. By the way, have you gone to visit him yet in his new office at the district?" Camila sighed. "I try and avoid that place. I am scared of his boss." I nodded and understood. "I am just glad he can't walk all over me anymore because we are equals. He's a scary SOAB. But, he also saved our lives a year ago."
Camila nodded and agreed as she went to sit in the living room. Meanwhile, I looked at Matteo when I remembered that I had some paperwork to do. I then sighed and walked over to my bag. "Camila, you think you can do me a favor? I just remembered that I have some paperwork to do. I left it in my bag. Just need to send information about my bank stuff. For paychecks. Then I also need to report on yesterday's activities. I brought it home because it was late when I finished the last call. Didn't want to do it in the middle of the night and make a mistake." She nodded and smiled. "Go ahead Matt."
Walking over to the door, I went to grab my laptop and iPad before heading to the office. Going to set it up, I connected it to the second monitor so I could get to work when I got an e-mail from Connie. I went to grab it and then saw it was the reports I needed from Hermann and Cruz but not from Gianna. I wanted to have a record of all calls so I knew when to put in for a oil check for all of their vehicles. I then went to find Gianna's contact in my phone so that I could call her. I just hoped she would answer and I was glad when she did. "Hey Matt, what's up?"
I sighed when she answer. "Official call Gianna. I just got the e-mail from Connie. Remember how my first e-mails said I wanted those digital reports every morning after shift before you leave? You haven't submitted it yet. Can you just get it in. I want to have it so that I can co-ordinate with the maintenance team. I want to have the ambos get oil checks and everything at least once every 5,000 miles. And they need tire rotations every 7,500 miles. I want to keep track of it so that I can try and get it in on certain shifts." Gianna was confused. "Why exactly may I ask?"
I sighed. "I would rather Gabby work in the best ambulance when she comes back. So, if it can be in the shop on days you aren't on shift...that would be preferable. Plus, this benefits you as well." She laughed and agreed. "Of course, I will get you those sheets. Want me to pass the message along to the other crew?" I shook my head. "No, yours is okay. I can get it in pretty quick." She agreed with me. "Okay, I will get that to you. Anything else?" I bit my lip. "Just stay safe okay? I would rather not have to loose a paramedic yet. I want you to stay for a bit. You are the only one I know from my previous time at the house. Noah a bit but...you know."
Gianna agreed and understood. "Okay, I promise Chief. Have a good day. See you on Friday?" I agreed. "Yes. Staff meeting first thing please. I will send it out." She agreed as I went to hang up. I then went to go look at the reports and saw that the trucks are doing great. However, it seemed that they have topped up recently on oxygen and some of the drugs. I wasn't concerned because it wasn't normal to get more drugs after every hospital drop but that seemed like a lot. I then went to highlight it and made sure to mention it next meeting.
I then proceeded to check the Squad, Truck and Engine reports. They were pretty good because the guys knew that I wanted these done quite consistently. Reading about the fires, I went to read about them when I saw that Severide requested that I send one of them to OFI for investigation. I decided to take an extra look at the fire so I decided to print off the report on that fire. Once I did that, I went to put it in my iPad case so Gabby might be able to look at it. I then proceeded to see that people already started to put in for furlough on Easter and Memorial Day. Oh the joy of having to approve this.
That's when I decided to make a call to Hermann. I had to speak to him quick because he has been at the firehouse the entire time since I was gone. I wanted to get some info on who has had the most furlough time since I left to give priority. I just hoped he answered.
