Chapter 49

Gabby's POV: Once we put both of the babies in their beds, I decided to walk into the closet to get changed into something more appropriate for a new mom. Putting some sweatpants on, I smiled when I decided to grab one of Matt's shirts from his laundry basket. Smelling it, I smelt his cologne and smiled when I put it on before making my way out to bed. Looking at Matt, I saw him on his iPad. "Work?" Matt then sighed and looked at me. "I thought I could since I know you are going to probably fall asleep. Anyways, Matteo is asleep too. I went to check on him just now." I then nodded, smiling. "I was going to take a nap. I can do that when you are here."

Matt smiled and nodded as I got back in bed. Moving close to him, I went to lay down in his arms when I felt him wrap his arm around me. Kissing the top of my head, Matt smiled at me as he set his iPad down. "Can I just ask you something quick though? I am looking at the schedule for shifts. I want to know if you want certain days off? Or if you are going to just start with day shifts instead of 24-hour shifts when you start back." I then looked at him and thought about it. "If you could get me split shifts, that would be great. I could probably work 8-to-8...be here overnight and then work 8-to-8 the next day. Then I would get 48 hours off." 

Matt nodded and liked that idea. "Well, I am already cancelling my March 3rd shift since I am going to need to be here. I already know about March 2nd. You told me that's the day you are getting your tubes tied. Oh and I already booked August 29th-September 5th off. That way, I am off for Matteo's 2nd birthday and our 2nd anniversary." I smiled when he said that. "That sounds perfect. To think though...had we stayed married all these years, we would be celebrating 5 years this year in December." Matt sighed and nodded as he kissed my forehead.

"Positive thoughts okay Gabby, we are not looking back considering this life wouldn't exist had we stayed married." I smiled and agreed with him before leaning up to kiss him softly. Matt then grabbed my hand before intertwining our fingers. "Listen, you said that you wanted to take a nap. Or do you just want to rest in my arms?" I then thought about it and smiled. "A bit of both. Just rest until I fall asleep." Matt smiled and agreed as he bent down to kiss me softly. Moving my hand to his chest, I rubbed it as we held each other close. 

Pulling away from the kiss, Matt then kissed my forehead as we looked at each other. That's when we heard the door open downstairs. Getting nervous, I started to get tense. Gabby knew and got tense too when we heard her mom. "Gabriela, I'm back from my place. Hope it's okay!" That's when I heard Matteo's feed run downstairs. "How about you go offer my mom some help with her bags. I want to talk to her about moving in permanently. Or at least until the kids are older. You are okay with that right?" I nodded and smiled.

"Here, let me out and then I will go help her. See you in a minute?" I nodded and agreed as I let him go before watching him walk away. I then smiled as I laid down there for a minute, so glad that my mom was back. Might allow me and Matt some time alone.
