Chapter 142

Matt's POV: As I made my way downstairs, I couldn't help but smile when I saw Matteo hugging my mom at the door. "Now isn't this a cute scene?" My mom then looked at me and smiled. "Matthew." My mom then set Matteo down before taking off her boots and coming to hug me. "How are you sweetie?" I then smiled as I wrapped my arms around her and kissed her cheek. "Glad the babies co-operated last night. Thanks again for offering. Now you are sure you're okay with 2 nights?" My mom nodded. "Yes, take advantage of a little time with Gabby and the babies. You deserve to spend a bit more one-on-one time with them."

I smiled and agreed. "Not that I am going to get much of it while I am on shift. Now, you staying here tonight or are you going to head back to your place?" I saw my mom brought her bag and she bit her lip. "I thought...instead of having to bring a whole bunch of toys to my place, then we can do it here. I am sure that Gabby has baking stuff here right?" I then thought about it and nodded. "Yeah, let me show you where it is." I then went to close the door before locking up. "C'mon Matteo, let's go make breakfast." Matteo then nodded as he ran away. Walking to the kitchen with my mom, I smiled. "You come here yet?"

My mom nodded. "Yeah, I came on your first day. I helped Gabby bring the kids home." I then agreed. "You mean after she came to my scene." My mom sighed. "You guys still having problems with that?" I shook my head. "No, we are okay. Now listen, I am going to show you where everything is for him. His snacks are in this cupboard here on the left of the stove. On the right is our bars, energy and stuff. His milk is the one in the bags. His are in this cupboard on the right of the stove." My mom then laughed. "Matt, he can help me find things." I then sighed. "Sorry, I didn't expect you to stay. So, I was going to bring it."

My mom understood and then walked up to me. "This is why I am here. However, I promise to sleep in the guest room." I then thought about it. "You can sleep in our room mom. It's the one with the best mattress." My mom nodded and agreed when I heard Gabby come downstairs with the kids. "Nancy, which one do you want to say hi to first?" My mom then turned around and smiled as she went to grab Ella. "Hi Mrs. Ella. How are you today?" She then smiled as she held her. Gabby then looked at me. "Her in our bed?" I then sighed. "I would rather not ruin her back. She's going to want to play with Matteo whenever she can."

Gabby nodded and agreed. "Now, I need to finish up. Matt, can you ask your mom to give her a bottle? She was picky this morning." I nodded and agreed. "Oh, I forgot my night bag upstairs. Can you grab it for me?" Gabby nodded and smiled. "Of course. Make sure you remember your laptop so that you can do the reports while we are feeding the kids in the middle of the night." I thought about it and nodded. "That's a great idea." Gabby smiled and nodded as she looked at me. "Here, can you take Wally?" I nodded and went to grab him. "Hey buddy, you and me are going to have fun sitting in the trucks today." I then went to kiss his head.

Wally then smiled at me as he cuddled up to me. Kissing the top of his head, I then smiled at my mom when I went to grab some cereal and a bowl. My mom then shook her head. "Here, take your babies Matt. Go cuddle with them and I will make you some eggs." I then smiled at her and then nodded while going to grab Ella from my mom. Moving to sit at the dinning room table, I sat in the big chair with both the kids on my lap. Wrapping my arms around them, I then went to kiss their heads. "Hi guys." That's when I heard Gabby come back downstairs with my bag. Setting it (and the diaper bag) by the door, she smiled at me. "You already move the car seats from the van to the Tesla?" I then looked up at her. "Shoot, I forgot to do that."

Gabby then smiled at me and then walked over to me. Thinking she was going to grab the kids, I went to get up when Gabby shook her head. "Give me the keys to the Tesla. I will move the car seats. Anyways, I am driving it today anyways." I smiled and nodded as I reached into my pocket and went to give her the Tesla keys. Once she had them, she was about to walk away when my mom turned around. "Don't you dare go anywhere without saying hello Gabby." Gabby then laughed as she walked over to my mom. "How are you Nancy? Thanks again."

My mom then smiled at her. "The pleasure is mine. I need some Matteo time. By the way, I love your new car Matt. The Tesla looks gorgeous. I have seen the ads and have contemplated buying one myself." I laughed and agreed with her. "We'll take a ride sometime okay? But I got it because it's just cheaper than gas. And I have a charger at work that I can use." My mom nodded and understood as she went to start some eggs. "Matteo eat eggs?" I then nodded. "Yeah, scrambled. I take mine sunny side please?" My mom nodded and agreed. "Bacon too?"

I then smiled. "Have I ever told you that you are the best mom in the entire world?" My mom laughed as she walked away to the fridge to get some bacon when Matteo looked at me. "I thought mama was the best mom in the entire world?" I then looked at him and nodded. "She is Matteo. No offence mom, but better than you." My mom then turned to look at me. "Excuse me?" I then sighed. "Mom, you know what she also has to deal with. The reason for her medication. That's why. It's harder for her." My mom then understood. "By the way, are you working Mother's Day?"

I then went to grab my phone to check and sighed. "Oh great, I am. But I don't work the day before. I can't cancel that shift. People have already booked it off. Severide booked it off and so did Hermann. So, I am the only officer who is going to be at the firehouse that day. That means I can't go." That's when Gabby came back inside from moving the car seats. "Gabby, I don't have mother's day off just to let you know." Gabby then nodded. "It's okay. We can do it on your next day off. I'll talk to Antonio and my mom. We can do her in the morning and your mom in the afternoon."

I then stared at her. "What?" Gabby then looked at me. "I am less of a bitch in the morning. Sorry, that's when my mom gets me." I then agreed and nodded. "Okay. Oh and by the way mom, don't be afraid to come to our place during the first week of March. I appreciate all the help that week." My mom then went to put the eggs she made on the plate. Adding some bacon on the side, she then walked over to me. "What's happening that week?" Gabby then sighed. "I am getting my tubes tied."

My mom nodded and agreed as she walked back over to the stove to make Gabby a plate. "Probably the best idea considering you have 3 kids." Finishing Gabby's plate, she then walked back over and gave her the plate. "OJ?" We both nodded and smiled. "Thanks mom." My mom then went to grab some orange juice for us before putting them in some glasses. Walking back over, she smiled. "Now listen, I am going to go unpack a bit while you are still here." My mom then nodded as she went upstairs to our room. "It clean?" I agreed. "Yes mom, relax." Gabby then laughed and looked at me. "The sheets aren't."

I then smiled at her. "Just relax and eat so that we can get going. I want to get there with time to spare considering people are going to want to talk before the first call." Gabby agreed and nodded. "Promise you will try and save your work for when they are napping. I am going there so you can spend time with them too." I agreed and nodded, smiling at her as we ate breakfast together before work.
