Chapter 8

Matt's POV: As I saw Hermann get all worried when Cindy got here, I decided to get up because I knew she would want to hug me. "The kids are fine. I just wanted to drop off some lunch." I then looked at her. "Sure...that's all you wanted to do. You were also hoping to meet my cute kids." Cindy then stared at me and blushed. "Guilty." She then walked over to me and hugged me. "Congratulations Matt." I smiled when she said that. "So, rumor has it Lee Henry has joined the fire academy." Cindy then nodded. "Yeah, it's a dream come true for him."

I smiled and agreed. Hermann then looked at me. "Listen, I get you are the new chief and it's early for you to pull favors but...could you try and get him as a candidate?" I smiled and agreed. "If we do get him, he'll have to be either Squad or Engine. You can't have him on Truck." Cindy smiled. "It's okay. He wants to be squad. So, that's good with me." I smiled when she said that. "This summer, I am going to try and open a summer camp. Junior officers. They can learn about it and he can do the squad program. Start them young."

Cindy then looked at me. "Let me guess, you are putting Matteo in it?" I nodded. "Wouldn't mind having the little guy around here more. But just to let you know....we are not working Molly's anymore. I get we did that last time around but, we have no time. 3 kids under 18 months." Hermann just shook his head. "I swear, I still think you guys are crazy. But like I said in the past...this family things looks great on you." Matt smiled and nodded. "Yeah, it does. Honestly, if I could change anything about this...Boden would still be here but, I am glad we have the kids."

Hermann smiled when I said that and nodded. "Now listen, I actually want to talk about the candidate we currently have. Sorry Cindy, first day and I need to catch up. I've already been to a fire as Chief and it was crazy." We all agreed and nodded. Hermann then looked at me. "You still need me here?" I smiled at him and then nodded. "Yeah, I want to know what's happened that might affect any personnel decisions I have to make. And then, I want to know about how Tuesday has been doing. Oh, and I want an update on Molly's."

Cindy then nodded. "I have been sending you the money via eTransfer." I agreed and smiled. "Good. That money has been going right into the college funds. God, I still can't believe I am going to pay over 200k for all three of my kids to go to school." Hermann then laughed. "Shut up, we have to pay over 400k." Cindy agreed and went to kiss Hermann. "Listen, I need to get back to the restaurant. I'll bring you guys supper." I agreed and smiled. "Can you get me the chicken wrap if that's still on the menu?" Cindy agreed and nodded. "Sure thing."

I then watched as she left before smiling at Hermann. "How's the Candidate's cooking?" He laughed and agreed. "Let's go see. He's probably done. You hungry?" I nodded. "Like I said, 3 kids." Me and Hermann then both walked out and smiled as I prepared to go have lunch with my crew.
