Chapter 169

Matt's POV:
Once I dismissed the rest of the firehouse, I smiled as I went to walk over to Gabby. Quickly helping her up, I brought her close and then kissed her softly. "I love you so much. This is a great surprise." Gabby smiled. "I knew you would want to celebrate with the firehouse. But, I get you to myself tonight." I agreed and smiled before going to grab Ella. "Here, give me my little girl and I can hold her while we talk." Gabby agreed and nodded as she gave me Ella. Moving to sit down next to her, I smiled at Antonio. "So, tell us how Sylvie and Hannah are."

Jay and Erin then both looked at him. "Yes, please. I want an update Antonio." Antonio laughed and smiled. "We still have to stay in the hospital for a while. I am just glad that mom is helping us. Oh about that, Gabby do not request she help you...she is staying with us for a while to help with Theo. Sylvie is pretty much living at the hospital with Hannah. Meanwhile, I am going back and forth." Gabby agreed and nodded. "Of course." I then looked at them. "By the way, you do realize that I am working on my birthday right?" Antonio then laughed. "Right."

We all agreed and nodded. "However, this was the only day that I could get Jay and Erin to come. Jay is testifying on your birthday." Jay sighed and agreed. "Thanks for reminding me. I told you that I hate this case. And no, I am not talking about it." Antonio then looked at me. "Plus, I know Wednesdays are slower for you." Me and Gabby then both glared at him. "You little piece of shit! Hasn't Sylvie told you anything about what not to say at a firehouse? Or even Gabby for that matter!" I then went to grab my radio and listened to the bells.

"Truck 81...." I then sighed and looked at Gabby, setting my plate down before bending down to kiss her softly. "Be safe, see you later." I agreed and nodded before (intentionally) shoving Antonio out of my way to show him I am mad.

Antonio's POV:
As Matt ran out of the firehouse, I felt him shove me. I was not impressed and was about to tell him. "Matt, what the...." Gabby then stopped me. "Oh shut up Antonio! You deserve it. You have been around here just as long as I have and you know not to say stuff like that. By the way, why are you still standing? Sit your ass down and then grab once of your nieces and nephews." I nodded and agreed before going to grab Ella since she was older. "Hi sweetie. Come sit with uncle Tonio." Gabby smiled at me. "See, this is why I am glad you and Sylvie had kids."

I then looked up at my sister, confused. "What are you talking about?" Gabby laughed and smiled. "You are so good with them. Honestly, you don't even care whether they are your kids or if they are your niece/nephews. You treat them all as if they are your own kids." Erin then agreed with her. "That is totally true Antonio, you treat Olivia as if she was your own daughter whenever you are around. Heck, sometimes I wonder whether she is your daughter or Jay's. Whenever you are over...she just gravitates towards you." Jay then looked at me. "Totally not jealous."

Gabby laughed when he said that. "Oh god, you won't believe this. So we went to Matt's mom's place this morning because she was watching Matteo last night. She literally lives in the same place where they lived as kids. So Matt was totally emotional this morning. I swear, that is the most raw I have seen him." I then looked at him. "Why was it raw?" Gabby then looked at me. "Okay, you didn't hear this from me but...he was abused by his dad when he was a kid. Belt and stuff. I mean, you guys do know that. It's why his mom killed him." 

We all nodded and agreed when Gabby said that. "Of course I remember Gabby, how could I forget when it's engraved in my head. It makes so much sense. Whenever you are around dad, he is so protective of you and the kids because he doesn't want you to be abused by him just like he was abused by his father." Gabby then stared at me, probably just realizing that herself. "Wow. That's..." She then teared up a bit and looked at me when I said that. I then got up and went to hug her. "Hey, you okay Gabby?" Gabby then sighed. "That's why it's so hard on him."

Erin then looked at her. "To have gone through it himself...and then have to watch the woman he loves, his wife go through it while you are married is horrible." Gabby sighed and agreed with her. "And I am just realizing that now. How in the world did I not put two and two together until now?" Moving to rub her back, I then kissed her head. "Gabby...just relax okay? You can talk to him when he gets back. Right now, just concentrate on eating your cake." Gabby nodded and agreed with me, taking a few deep breaths before eating her cake once again. However, I knew the idea was stuck in her head. Let's just hope that it doesn't take too long.
