Matt's POV: After having lunch with everybody, I sighed as I decided to take a minute alone by heading up onto the roof. I haven't been up here in years and I just needed a minute to myself. And honestly, I could even have a cigar. This used to be me and Severide's cigar spot. That's when I heard him come up the ladder to join me. "Now this is weird, haven't seen you up here since before you had Matteo." I then turned to look at him and then saw he had some cigars. "I already asked Gabby. She knows you are stressed about the whole Lee Henry stuff. She said it's okay." I then looked at him before grabbing my phone. 'Did you okay the cigar?'

Severide then went to set up his chair and turned to look at me. "You checking with her?" I laughed and nodded. "I am not getting in trouble with her. You aren't the one that has to sleep with her tonight." Severide then nodded when Gabby texted me back. 'Yes.' I then smiled as I went to grab it. "Wow, that was shocking." I then went to look at it and sighed. "God, I haven't had one of these in so long." Severide then laughed as he sat down next to me. "You don't have to but, I am having one." I agreed and nodded as I held it. "My lungs are already bad. Not sure if I want to ruin them when I have to run after 2 boys."

Severide nodded. "Well, I am having one because Stella is late." I then turned to look at him. "No." Severide laughed. "We did it once without any protection. I am just hoping that I am not like you where we literally get pregnant within 2 months of you having a kid." I then looked at him. "Oh shut up. Last time I checked, I wasn't the one who donated bone marrow for a woman who you met less than a month earlier." Severide laughed and agreed. "Good point. Now listen, how are you doing? You've had a rough day today." I then sighed. "Let me see, my first candidate is in the hospital and I've been chief for a week."

Severide sighed. "Dude, relax. It was his fault, not yours. I am starting to wonder whether I am really comfortable with him being here. He knows the rules. His dad always said not to be alone in the firehouse even when he wasn't a candidate. Why would that change now?" I then thought about it and sighed. "It's hard because I can see it from two points of view. As the chief, I want to transfer him out but...if it was Matteo, I would want him to stay because I don't like the idea of having my son in another house." Severide nodded and understood. "And that's where you have to make the hard decisions as chief. You need to put your status as a dad and husband on the backburner."

I laughed when he said that. "Trust me, never going to happen. You just wait until you have a daughter. You are always going to worry about her. Heck, I still worry about Gabby on a daily basis. Between her being alone at times with 2-3 kids and then her mental health...it's hard. I am just glad that she has agreed to talk to me about how she's grieving. So far, we've been okay but it's still hard on me. I've been talking about it and just being here helps. However, I want to dedicate the Chief's truck to him. You know, like we did with Shay's name on Ambo 61."

Severide then turned to look at me and nodded. "You ever think about what Shay would think about all this? You being chief." I sighed and nodded. "On a daily basis. She should've met our kids man. She should've been their godmother with you. I am just glad that we honored her. It's why we chose Ella as our daughter's name. But god, she has me wrapped around her finger...it's crazy. Those eyes just get me to cave all the time. I am just glad that my boys don't have that affect on me." Severide laughed. "You going to let them be firefighters?"

I then sighed and shrugged. "We haven't thought about that. I mean, at first...we were thinking no because of my lungs. But now, I wouldn't mind seeing them as my candidates. Candidates M. Casey and W. Casey. Hopefully, I could get them here." Severide nodded. "You going to push them?" I shook my head. "No but, I am going to bring them around a lot. Especially because I do not trust my neighbor down the street." Severide then turned to look at me. "Who lives down the street?" I then sighed. "My father-in-law."

Severide then glared at me. "You're kidding." I shook my head. "I told him to stay away. We have a restraining order after what he did to Gabby at Target all those years ago. Just renewed it. He is literally just far enough away to not be in breech. It's why the kids and Gabby are here anyways." I then went to grab my water and took a drink. "But, the moment he moves...I am going to be so happy. I don't want him anywhere near our kids or Gabby. She has enough issues as it is. She already has to worry about me being back at the firehouse."

Severide nodded again. "Did she have any reservations about you taking over?" I then sighed and nodded. "Of course she did. We were happy in Puerto Rico but...the will got us to come back remember? But listen, enough about that because I want to just relax for a minute." Severide then nodded as he went to give me his lighter. I then thought about it and then nodded. "You know what, I need it. Between Ramon and all this shit today, I am doing one." I then went to light the cigar and then started smoking it. "Haven't had one in years."

Severide laughed and agreed with me as we both had a cigar to relax.
