Chapter 48

"What if he's mad at you because you aren't going to the shots appointment?"

Matt's POV: When Gabby mentioned the possibility that Antonio might be mad that I wasn't going to be at the shots appointment, I knew that was a real possibility considering Antonio has always acted as my surrogate father-in-law ever since me and Gabby got married in 2020. That's when I was interrupted in my thoughts by Matteo. "Papa, can you take Ella from me? She's getting heavy." I nodded and agreed as I went to grab her from his little arms. "Anyways, I love holding your sister. And mommy loves holding that little brother of yours."

Gabby smiled and nodded. "Now, my question about the shots appointment?" Moving to lay down in bed more so Ella was laying down on my chest, I looked up at Gabby and grabbed her hand. "Gabby, he is going to understand. Plus, I am positive he has missed a few of Theo's appointments. And he is going to have to do the same when Hannah is born. He is either going to be working or he is going to be taking care of Theo while Sylvie takes Hannah for an appointment. By the way, have you figured out what they are doing?"

Gabby nodded and smiled. "Yeah, she wants to try and do a natural birth at home." I was shocked when she said that. "Sorry, are we talking about the same Sylvie who can't go an hour without taking a Tylenol or Advil when she has a headache?" Gabby laughed and agreed because she knew exactly what I meant. Sylvie had a very low pain tolerance level. We both knew that because of our relationships with her. Gabby being her former Ambo partner, me being her ex-boyfriend or whatever we were before Gabby came back with Matteo.

Gabby then looked at me and smiled. "Listen, you call Antonio and ask him to do it was a favor. That way you can explain why you can't go." I nodded and agreed. "Am I calling Antonio or Sylvie?" Gabby then bit her lip and remembered they were home. "He's home today. He took the day off because they had to do the nursery." I agreed and nodded while going to call Antonio. I then waited a few minutes when he answered. "Well, if it isn't Captain Casey. This a work call or personal call?" I laughed when he said that. "If it's from my cell...it's personal." Antonio agreed.

"Listen, I just had a question about Sylvie's plans for tomorrow. I wanted to know if she was busy." Antonio then got mad. "Matt! She is due to give birth soon. I am not letting her back on Ambo until the end of her maternity leave!" I then sighed. "Antonio, I said this call was personal. Not work. Plus, I am her brother-in-law! You really think I would put my niece's life at risk by asking Sylvie to do a shift the month before she is due to give birth. Antonio, I may be her boss but...I am also her brother-in-law and I love her like a sister. So, first of all...chill!"

Antonio then took a breath. "Sorry, guess this is awkward." I agreed. "I am actually calling because the kids have a doctor's appointment this Friday. I am not sure whether I am going to be able to go with Gabby." As expected, Antonio didn't like that. "Matt, you are the kids dad." Gabby then spoke up. "Antonio, don't lie that you made all of Eva and Diego's pediatrician appointments. I know you didn't!" Antonio sighed when she said that and agreed. "Fine, so what do you need." I sighed. "Think Sylvie can go? I heard she has an appointment anyways."

Antonio agreed. "And you would join them?" I sighed. "I would try my best. It's just...I am the newest chief. I can't really take days off yet considering I am still getting my bearings. I already had to cancel on the Commissioner today because Gabby needed me at home with the kids." Antonio understood. "Of course. And it's your second shift as Chief." I agreed. "My thoughts exactly. So, it's not like I have been Chief for a long time and can easily get out of a quick shift. But I promise, I am going to try. Either that or Gabby is going to stop by afterwards."

Antonio then thought about something. "Gabby, why don't you ask mom to go with you instead of Sylvie?" Me and Gabby then both looked at each other and laughed. "I wasn't even thinking about that. God, I must be tired." I nodded while going to grab her hand. "After this, we can just turn on the TV for a while." Gabby agreed and nodded while moving closer to me. Wrapping my arm around her, I smiled as I went to kiss her forehead. "I love you." Gabby smiled and nodded when I said that. "Listen, I will ask mom okay? I am sure she would be glad to go."

Antonio agreed. "Okay. But I will ask Sylvie in case." I agreed. "Thanks Antonio. Have a good day." Antonio agreed and then went to hang up. I then looked at Gabby. "Want to tell your mom about the appointment? I mean, she's going to be here tomorrow anyways. Or actually, she's coming tonight. I still think she should move into the basement." Gabby nodded and agreed with me. "Send her a text saying we are going to do a family dinner with her. Then we can talk to her about it over a glass of sparkling water?"

Gabby nodded and agreed as she went to grab my phone. "If you do it, it's easier to say yes. Because then she knows I cleared it with you." Gabby then went to text her mom and smiled at me. I then agreed while holding her close. Once she was done, she put her phone down before leaning up and kissing me softly. "Can we put the babies in their cribs and then we can cuddle for a while? Maybe just hold each other?" I nodded and agreed as I went to kiss her head. "You stay there. I got them Gabby." Gabby nodded and smiled as she let me go.

I then went to get up and proceeded to put both the babies in their cribs so that we could just hold each other close in bed, taking a bit of time for each other.
