Matt's POV: After moving to Gabby's office, I smiled when we put Matteo on his cot and the babies in their cribs. That's when I saw Gabby close the door and walk over to the bed. "How tired are you?" Gabby then went to lay down. "Let's just say that you are not getting any action tonight." I nodded and agreed with her. "And this is why I am so glad you have decided to come here. I can help out and you can get sleep." I then went to get in bed with her, taking off my shoes before wrapping my arm around her and leaning against a pillow.
Cuddling up to me in the firehouse bed, Gabby laid her head down on my chest before looking up at me. "I like the idea." I then smiled at her before bending down to kiss me softly. "I made sure we already moved the good mattress we had in my office into this one considering I bought it. I just left it here all these years." Gabby then smiled. "So this is the mattress we used once when we...you know." I smirked and nodded while moving to grab her hand and intertwined our fingers. Rubbing her arm, I smiled as I went to kiss her softly.
Gabby then went to grab my hand and intertwined our fingers as she just cuddled up to me. "You know I am proud of you right Matt?" I then looked down at her, a bit confused. "What do you mean?" Gabby then explained. "Matt, you have taken over this firehouse like a champ. You've put your grief aside and just done the job Boden said you should do. I am also proud that you haven't let this job go to your head and even with you being Chief, you still put me and the kids first. For that, I am so grateful and I love you for it."
I smiled when she said that before leaning down to kiss her softly. "Gabby, none of this would be possible without you. Your support means everything. And if I didn't have it...I wouldn't be chief right now. You telling me that you were okay with this was the only thing that told me it was the right thing to do. Remember that you will always be my priority. You and the kids...except for right now." That's when I heard the bells ring. Listening to the voice, I went to get up. 'Truck 81, Engine 51, Ambo 61...Fire at UIC Student Center - East and Recreation Center.'
I then went to get up and looked at Gabby. "I'll be safe. This should be easy." I nodded and agreed as I went to run out. That's when I saw Severide come out. "Want me to come?" I turned to look at him and nodded. "Yeah, the more hands the better." Severide then looked at his crew. "Squad, we are providing assistance!" Squad then nodded as they went to get in the truck. "Severide, join me okay? I want to talk about this." He agreed and then went to run into the truck with me. "Coffin, in the back and on my hip!" Lee Henry agreed and got in with his jacket.
Once we all got in, I waited for the trucks to go while getting into the driver's seat. Once the trucks left, I went to turn my sirens on and left. That's when I decided to talk to Severide. "Severide, I want you to take the Student Center okay? There's residence in there." Severide nodded and agreed. "You think we'll need to do search?" I agreed. "Bring in a couple guys. I will co-ordinate with the University Fire Department." That's when I got a call from Hermann. "Hey chief, can you see the university from where you are?" I nodded and went to radio back. "Yeah."
Hermann then pointed something out. "It's on the high rise." I agreed and then sighed. "I will call for backup okay?" I then turned to look at Severide. "Patterson?" Severide agreed and I went to radio to him. "Chief Casey to Firehouse 90 - Patterson." Patterson then replied quickly. "What's up 51?" I then went to talk to him. "Can we get assist at UIC Student Center fire? Big campus, a lot of search." Patterson agreed. "En route Chief. Severide there?" Severide then went to reply. "Captain Kelly Severide en route as well Chief. See you there." He agreed as we all made our way to the university.
I then looked in the back at Lee Henry. "Pay attention to this call okay Lee Henry. Sit in your dad's truck and watch how firehouses co-operate. Watch how we take control of the scene since we are calling for backup. Pay attention bud." Lee Henry agreed as we made our way to the fire.
