Chapter 129

Matt's POV: Once I finished making us some lunch, I was about to bring it to the living room when I saw Matteo come downstairs. Walking into the kitchen in his PJs with his blankie in his hands, I smiled while bending down in front of him. "Hey buddy. You just wake up?" Matteo nodded as he came to cuddle up to me. I then smiled as I held him close and then went to pick him up. Kissing his head, I smiled at him. "C'mon, this is for uncle Tonio and your mom." Matteo nodded as he wrapped his arms and legs around me while I carried the plates to the living room.

Walking in, I smiled at Gabby. "Look who decided to join us?" Gabby then looked up at Matteo and smiled. "Hey little guy. You just wake up?" Matteo then nodded again when I decided to give him to Gabby. "I will be right back." I then walked over to Antonio with some food. "Here you go guys. I am just going to go sit with my little guy now." Antonio nodded and agreed as I carried some food to Gabby. Sitting down with her, I went to wrap my arm around her before looking at Matteo who looked very comfortable while laying down on her chest.

Grabbing my hand, Gabby smiled as she turned to look at me. "This brings me back to when it was just the three of us. Us holding each other with him on one of our chests. It was a great time in our lives. I am going to miss it when he can't do this anymore." I nodded and smiled before going to kiss her softly as I started to eat lunch with Antonio. "So, status update. What's happening at the hospital if you don't mind me asking?" Antonio nodded. "She's good. Jay and Erin are visiting right now. That's the only way I could leave."

I nodded and understood what he meant. "Yeah, it's hard to leave the woman you love when she's just given birth and isn't in the best emotional state. You know, I should offer to stay if you need to go home. You did the same for me when you watched Matteo." Antonio then looked at me. "You're right...I did. You were both grieving while also celebrating the birth of Wally." I nodded and smiled at Matteo as he looked at me. "That was such a hard time in our lives. Between having 3 kids and then also having to deal with it...it's hard."

Gabby then turned to look at me and then went to kiss me softly. "We are still dealing with it. This guy here as been my rock and I am so glad we are in this together." I smiled when she said that before kissing her again. I then went to kiss her hand as we held each other close. "You guys need us to watch Theo again tonight?" Antonio sighed when I asked that. "I am debating it. I think Sylvie wants him with us at the hospital. But, I am not sure if it's a good idea considering her emotional state." Gabby sighed. "Has she at least breastfed Hannah yet?"

Antonio nodded and smiled. "She did right before I left. That lifted her spirits a lot. She hasn't been able to do it until then." Gabby sighed when she said that. "How long is she going to stay in hospital...just curious?" Antonio sighed. "She is going to ask the doctor to stay until Hannah is discharged. Like in the hospital with her." Gabby nodded and turned to look at me. "I think I might try and swing by tomorrow okay Antonio? Go on an Ambo run and go quickly. Can I at least drive the Ambo Matt?" I sighed. "Gabby, not if the kids are there."

Gabby then turned to look at me and pouted. "Gabby, I said no. You can't have it both ways. You are either working or on maternity leave. I am not going to let you blur the lines this early in my tenure as Chief. Sorry but, that would reflect bad on me and I am not willing to take that risk. Gabby, I already had to ask for a big favor to get you to stay at the firehouse with me. You know how strict the CFD is when it comes to spouses working together. So, right now...I am speaking to you as Firehouse 51's Chief and I am saying no. Not yet babe, soon okay?"

Gabby sighed when I said that. "I understand Matt. I am sorry for pushing." I then agreed. "Listen, how about we table this for when Antonio goes back to the hospital? Then, we can relax." Gabby nodded and agreed. "Eva, you okay with just relaxing down here with Theo?" Eva nodded and smiled. "Of course I am aunt Gabby. I am just here in case something happens and I need to go. Need to have someone to take over." Gabby smiled and agreed with her. "Antonio, eat up and then get going okay? I am positive Jay and Erin want to head home."

We all nodded and agreed when Gabby said that. "Oh and leave Theo here, we got him with Eva's help." We all nodded again before continuing to eat so Antonio could get back to the hospital.
