Chapter 54

Matt's POV: After finishing lunch, I made my way to the couch with me and Gabby's bowls as well as some water for the both of us. "Matteo, come and get macaroni." Matteo then came downstairs from his room when he looked at me. "Daddy, why did I have to go upstairs?" Setting the bowls down on the living room table, I bent down and looked at him in his eyes. "There was a bad man at the door. He hurt mommy when you were a baby and we don't like him. That's all you need to know okay buddy?" Matteo then nodded before looking at his mom. "Is she okay?"

I nodded and smiled. "Yes. But, I am sure that mommy could still use a hug to make her feel better." Matteo nodded and agreed as he ran over to her and then got on the couch to hug her. "Feel better mommy." Gabby smiled when he did that before going to grab my hand. "You are so sweet." I smiled when she said that before leaning over to kiss her softly. "And I love you like crazy. Now, c'mon...let's eat before it gets cold everybody." Matteo nodded and then went to grab his plain macaroni. Meanwhile, me, Gabby and her mom had ground beef in ours.

Camila looked at it and then took a bite. "Um. That takes good. What are those brown balls in the macaroni Matt?" I smiled when she asked. "Ground beef." Camila nodded and smiled. "You know this is good. Would probably be a good addition to your kid's menu at Molly's." Gabby then turned to look at me. "With homemade cheese sauce." I smiled and agreed with her. "You know, you could always just work there for a while instead of the firehouse. I mean, at least for the first year of the babies' lives." Gabby thought about it and bit her lip. "No, I want to be with you."

Wrapping my arm around her, I nodded while going to kiss her head. "You are worried about me aren't you?" Gabby nodded and sighed. "Yeah. You think maybe we can go take a walk with the younger kids after lunch? I know we said we would be with Matteo but..." I sighed and looked at Matteo. "Let's ask him." Gabby nodded and then looked at Matteo. "Hey Matteo, think maybe me and your dad can go take a walk after lunch? Just the two of us? I want to get some exercise. We'll take your siblings and you can have some time alone with grandma." 

Matteo then looked at us both and nodded. "Okay mommy." Matt smiled when went to rub my back as he kissed the side of my head. "Listen, let's eat and then we can go for a walk together. Just get some fresh air." I smiled and agreed. "Thank god we have a double stroller that we can use with the kids." Matt laughed and agreed with me. "Listen, I am going to eat quick and then get changed into some jeans rather than sweats. Maybe we can go get some hot chocolate."

I smiled when he said that. "There's this cute stand in the park down the street. I think it benefits the Girls & Boys Club of Chicago." Matt smiled and agreed with me. "Then that's exactly where we are going to get some hot chocolate after we eat lunch. So eat up and then we are going to go out for a quick walk with the babies." I agreed and nodded as I leaned against Matt for a minute before going to grab my food so that I could eat lunch.
