Matt's POV: As I arrive at Chicago Med, I smile as I walk right into the ER to see Maggie there. "Well, well...if it isn't the new Chief of Firehouse 51." I smiled when Maggie said that. "Hey Maggie. How are you?" I then walked over to her and went to hug her. "Sorry you couldn't help with our second delivery." Maggie smiled and nodded. "Congrats on that by the way and of course the new job." I smiled and agreed. "Hey, my nephew is here. What room is he in?" Maggie then looked at me when I saw Matteo come out of a room. "Daddy!" I then went to pick him up and smiled. "I know now. Listen, do you mind maybe if I talk to Mrs. Goodwin quickly? I haven't spoken to her since I became chief and I wanted to talk to my counterpart here quickly."
Maggie nodded and agreed. "Of course, she's actually in the office right over there." That's when I saw Goodwin come out. "Hi Mrs. Goodwin. Just wanted to say hi." Mrs. Goodwin smiled. "Why hello Chief Casey. Congratulations." I smiled and went to hug her. "Thanks. I just wanted to let you know who you can contact if you need anything from Firehouse 51. We are here to serve. Also, I do have a bit of background in medical stuff." Maggie then looked at me. "You do?" I laughed. "My late fiancé was a medical resident, my wife is a paramedic and I am a former paramedic. So, that pretty much gives me a strong background in the medical field."
Maggie nodded and agreed. "Listen, you go see your nephew before you get called to a fire." I nodded and agreed as I made my way to the room. That's when I saw Gabby there. "Hello there." Gabby then turned to look at me and smiled. "Hey, we've been waiting for you." I nodded and agreed as I went to set Matteo down. "To give him a stern talking to?" Antonio agreed. "Better coming from a firehouse chief/his uncle than his dad considering he doesn't seem to listen to me when it comes to being told not to go to dangerous places." Diego sighed as I went to sit on the end of his bed. "Diego listen, I am a chief now...and I see stupid things happen at lot."
Diego nodded and agreed. "And I laugh at them sometimes because they are other people's kids and they aren't family. But Diego, you are my nephew. You of all people should know what you need to do to stay safe in those types of buildings. That and we found you there before a few years ago and you got a lecture. Diego, I'm sorry but...next time you do this shit, I am not calling your dad on his personal cell phone. I am calling 9-1-1 and you are getting arrested. This is enough okay?" I then looked up at Antonio. "I'm sorry Antonio but, I need to be stricter with him now. I am a chief. If someone else did that, they would be charged with trespassing."
Antonio nodded and understood. I then looked at Diego again. "Diego, that was a crime and that is unacceptable. Now, since you are over 18...you will have to talk to the Office of Fire Investigations. I will send in a report and tell them what happened. You didn't start the fire did you?" Antonio looked at me. "Matt!" I then sighed and looked at him. "Antonio, it's for my report. If I have to cover up stuff for him...then I need to know what I can and can't write. You want me to protect him? I need to know." Antonio then sighed as he looked at me. "Like, after you get an OFI report?" I nodded. "I will try and explain stuff in the best possible way to benefit him."
Diego nodded and agreed. "I didn't start the fire uncle Matt. It was my friends. I knew it was a crime to run away from the scene of a crime. I didn't want to be in more trouble than I did. I knew that I would be in much less trouble if I stayed and just spoke to you like this. If I left, I would've been arrest and that would've made my dad much more angry with me." Diego then turned to look at his dad. "I hope that helps a bit." Antonio sighed and agreed. "You are never hanging out with those 'friends' of yours anymore okay? They almost got you killed!" Diego nodded and agreed as he looked at me. "I will do whatever I can to make this up to you."
Gabby then looked at him. "Molly's shift...unpaid on Saturday." Diego then looked at Gabby when Antonio turned his head. "Your uncle is keep you out of trouble with the CPD. You just being there is a crime. Diego, it's trespassing! And you can be charged as an accessory to arson because you were there and helped people sneak in!" I nodded and agreed with Antonio. "Then I agree with your aunt. Once you are out of the hospital and cleared to work, you have an unpaid Molly's shift, 9 am to 11 pm the next day. If you do not show up, your name will be in the report. Is that understood Diego?" Diego nodded and agreed with me.
I then turned to look at Diego. "Am I in trouble with threatening him?" Antonio shook his head. "No because that is a good deal. He works unpaid and you don't get him in trouble with the Office of Fire Investigations." I then got worried. "That sounds like a quid-pro-quo. Illegal." Antonio sighed and looked at me. "Then pay him half-time." Gabby nodded and agreed. "Okay. Now listen, Matt has to get going. I am going to stay a bit longer okay Matt? I will be back with the kids in a bit. Can you go back to the firehouse and get a bottle ready as well as some food?" I nodded and agreed. "30 minutes?" Gabby smiled and agreed as she went to kiss me softly.
"See you soon. But think you can bring Matteo with you?" I nodded and smiled. "Matteo, you want to ride in daddy's truck back to the firehouse?" Matteo nodded and agreed. Grabbing his hand, I smiled at the family. "See you soon Gabby." I then went to kiss her quick before walking out of the ER with Matteo to go back to the firehouse.
