Chapter 168

Matt's POV: After making our way to the firehouse that morning and getting my office set up, I smiled as I decided to walk into the locker room to speak to Hermann's temp quickly. Seeing Cordova at a spare locker, I smiled. "Promise me that this time, you won't be hiding any secrets from me today Cordova." Cordova then turned to look at me and then laughed. "Of course Captain. Heard you were back in town." I then looked at him. "Actually, it's Chief." He then stared at me shocked. "Wait, you're the one who took over for Boden?" I nodded and smiled. "Yeah."

He then looked at me and smiled. "Oh, where are my manors. Congrats on the chiefdom and the 2 new kids?" I nodded and smiled. "They are here with Gabby today. She's still on leave. So now, we have Matteo, Ella and Wally. Our boys were carried by Gabby, our daughter was a surrogate." Cordova smiled and agreed. "So, it's Chief now in the house?" I nodded and agreed. "C'mon. We have a meeting to get to and you can meet them." He agreed and smiled as he followed me to the meeting room. Quickly walking in, I looked at Gabby who was at a desk.

"Cordova, meet my daughter Ella and our son Wallace or Wally." Cordova then smiled. "I will show you a picture of David later okay. He was born on 9/11 + 20." I then looked at him. "9/11 + 20?" Cordova then laughed, sitting down. "20th Anniversary of 9/11. So September 11, 2021." I then nodded and agreed but Mouch didn't. "Hey bud, I know people who went to help and died because of the toxic fumes they were exposed to at ground zero. No joking about 9/11 okay?" We all nodded and agreed. "My apologies on behalf of 51 Mouch." He nodded and agreed.

"Okay, so first things first...as we all know, Hermann is out because of Lee Henry's accident. So, taking his place on truck today is 81. I will be riding with them today and will be acting both as Chief and as Captain of 81. Stella, you are reporting to me as temporary Lieutenant." Stella nodded and agreed. "I am not going into the fires though. Sorry need to say that so my girl there doesn't get mad at me. Last time I checked, we were celebrating my birthday over the next 2 days." The whole house then looked at me and smiled. 

Severide then got up. "That reminds me. Hey Jay, Erin and Antonio, bring it in!" I was confused when he said that. Antonio then walked in with a cake along with Jay and Erin. I turned to look at them and looked at Gabby. "Did you know about this?" Gabby smiled and looked at me. "Why do you think I made sure I was here for your meeting?" I laughed and agreed. I then looked at Jay, Erin and Antonio before walking over to them. "Happy Birthday brother." Hugging me first, I smiled at Antonio. "Oh, how about you give us an update while you are here."

Antonio then sighed and looked at everybody. "Sylvie is stable. Baby Hannah is still on oxygen and feeding tube. She tried breastfeeding but, she can't suck yet." Gabby then went to get up. "Watch the babies in the stroller." I nodded. "Just keep them in there today okay? They'll be fine." Gabby nodded and agreed as she walked over to Antonio and then hugged him. "I promise, we'll stop by this weekend. Matt, think we can delay your birthday celebrations until Sylvie is in the clear? I know it's last minute but..." I then nodded and agreed.

"Of course Gabby." I then went to rub her back and hugged Antonio. "She'll be fine. But listen, don't stay too long after the cake. Go back. Now for you guys. What are you doing out of your cage there at the district?" Jay smiled and laughed as he hugged me. "I have an appointment at the VA Hospital. Going in this afternoon." I then looked at Lucky when I saw her and Tuesday get close. "Tuesday, go sit." Tuesday then walked away and I smiled at Erin, hugging her. "How are you Erin?" Erin smiled and then went to rub her stomach. "Gassy."

I smiled when she said that and nodded before looking at Antonio. "Listen, how about we all have a quick slice while I continue with my meeting? Then Antonio can get back to the hospital and you guys can get back to Voight?" We all nodded and agreed as we went to grab some slices of cake. "Matteo, you get some of your mom's slice." Gabby then thought about it. "Actually, he doesn't get cake. Sorry but, I don't need him any more hiper." Matteo then looked at her. "But momma." Gabby then sighed and looked at him.

Gabby then looked at Antonio. "If he gets to be too much, I am going to call you and you are going to tell Eva to get down here to help me!" Antonio then agreed. "I promise." I then laughed while grabbing a slice. "Okay, now everybody sit back down so we can keep going. Sorry guys, we are in the middle of our meeting." That's when Antonio saw Cordova. "What's Cordova doing here?" I then laughed. "Temporary firefighter. Now, for the peanut gallery. Shush while I am doing my meeting." We all agreed and nodded.

"Okay, so there are going to be some changes happening. As you all know, Hermann is out like I was saying. I want to say that I have suspended Lee Henry's privileges as Junior Candidate have been suspended for 1 week after he is cleared for work. This is as a result of what he did here." We all nodded and agreed. "Now, I want to be clear about something. I do not want him unattended in this firehouse again. So, if you don't see him...you need to tell somebody and we need to find him ASAP. He is not a candidate, he is a junior candidate. He is not a graduate."

We all agreed and nodded when I said that. I then went to take a bite of my cake and stared at Gabby. "Okay, you had something to do with this. This is my favorite." Gabby nodded and agreed. "Matt, concentrate before your first call." I nodded and agreed. "Next up. Severide, where were your reports last night!" Severide then sighed. "Sorry Chief, I will get them to you." I agreed. "Stella, you are in charge of 81's reports today...." That's when an Ambo call went. "Go ahead Gianna and Noah. Everybody is dismissed when the first call comes. Until then, can we get the room for my birthday?" They all agreed and nodded as I went to grab my cake again.
