Meanwhile at the Hermann Household:
Hermann's POV: As I sat at the breakfast table with Cindy, I smiled as I laughed with her. "So, how was Matt's first shift as Chief?" I sighed when she asked that. "You could tell he was really nervous. I mean, he has some pretty big shoes to fill." That's when I saw Lee Henry come downstairs. "Hey dad, which car am I taking today? You working?" I then looked at him and shook my head. "Take my beater. And remember to drop off Kenny at school. It's on the way to the Academy." Lee Henry then groaned and went to grab his bag."Kenny!" I then knew that Cindy was going to get mad. Kenny turned to look at her and she just gave him her signature glare. "Fine." I then looked at him. "Just remember this buddy...I am already asking my new chief to do us a favor. You are at the academy. And just because you are a Hermann doesn't mean that you are guaranteed a spot at Firehouse 51." Cindy then stared at me. "Excuse me?" I sighed and shook my head. "Nepotism. They don't like family at the same house. Matt and Gabby are exempt because of her health stuff."
Cindy nodded and understood. I then looked at Kenny. "I want you at Firehouse 51 so that your mom doesn't pull her support for this. You want to be a firefighter, you keep up at the good work at the academy and don't screw up. Make sure you are high on the list. That way, Firehouse 51 will be begging to have you. Plus, I have taught you a whole bunch of that stuff already. If I see any bad grades on that midterm report, I am not going to do anything to help you get to 51. You are going to have to do the work and ask for a transfer. And that's hard as a Candidate."
Cindy then looked at me. "But Gabby..." I then sighed. "She had a captain and chief on her side. So, that's different. Plus, that old Chief of hers was a stick in the mud. I am just glad that she has Matt on her side all the time now." Cindy nodded and agreed with me when I got a call. I then went to grab my phone when I saw it was the Chief. "Speaking of the Chief, I need to take this." I then went to kiss Cindy's cheek before walking away to go take Matt's call in our bedroom. "What's up Chief or is it Matt right now?" Matt then sighed. "Right now, it's Chief work."
I understood and agreed. "What's up?" Matt then sighed again. "Hermann, you didn't send me your report yet. I said I wanted those before you left the firehouse so that I wouldn't have to do that. I am fully aware of how important family time is when you are home. I get you want to be with Cindy so...I want you to please start e-mailing me them before you leave in the morning. I went digital so that it was easier for us. You can do it whenever you can." I understood his frustrations. "Okay, I will get that done for you okay? By the way, you looking at Candidates?"
That's when Matt sighed again. "Hermann, it's my first week! Please, don't push me okay? Please, just give me until after Valentine's Day! I had to jump into this. Remember, just 6 weeks ago...I was in Puerto Rico volunteering and expecting our 3rd child. Now, I am chief. So please, you need to give me a break with that! Our next candidate will be joining us in July. And my opportunities to pick first don't exist considering I am the newest Chief. So, unless he does really bad at the academy...then I am not going to have much choice but to pick the last guy."
I sighed and went to try and push. "Matt, pleas..." Matt then snapped. "Hermann, you just lost your furlough request for Spring Break! It's denied. Want to go for Father's Day?" I then gulped and shut up. "Of course not Chief. See you in 48." Matt then agreed. "Just get me the reports. Sorry I yelled. It's just...it's my first week Hermann. And you weren't getting Spring Break anyways. I want my officers with me for the first few months. Now listen, get me those reports and don't forget about that report about the candidate. I want that with me too." I understood.
"I promise to get that to you within the hour. Have a good day." Matt agreed and hung up. I then sighed as I went to hang up before looking at Cindy. "Well, that went bad." Cindy then stared at me. "What happened?" I sighed. "I pushed too far. So, I am not going to be getting Spring Break." Cindy sighed and nodded. "I guess that's your fault." I sighed and agreed. "Yeah, but I am not sure whether he's going to be our candidate. But listen, I need to get him some reports." Cindy nodded and agreed. "Of course, go ahead." I then went to walk away to the study to get him the reports that he requested from me.
