Chapter 171

Matt's POV: After getting back to the firehouse, I smiled as I walked in to see that Gabby wasn't sitting in the common room with Antonio and Sylvie. "Hey guys, where's Gabby?" Antonio then looked at me. "She's in your bedroom office. We got to talking and we hit a subject that she found a bit...touchy." Jay then looked at me and sighed. "It revolved around your dads." I then nodded before looking at Antonio. "Can you guys keep watching the kids for a minute? This subject is touchy as you said and I need to speak with her alone. Now, which office?"

Antonio then smiled. "Bedroom office." I nodded and agreed before walking away so that I could go join Gabby in our office. That's when Severide walked by. "Hey, where you going? Cake is that way." I sighed and looked at him. "I need to speak with Gabby alone. Good job on the call. Grissom was impressed. Oh and he liked my Jr. Candidate idea. He's going to propose it." Severide smiled. "Good, that makes sense. Now, go talk to your wife." I agreed and nodded as I went to make my way into my bedroom. Opening the door, I looked at Gabby. "Babe?"

Gabby then looked at me. "Oh Matt, hey...I'm good." I then shook my head. "You want to try that again? I already spoke to Antonio. And you aren't with the kids." I then walked over to her and then went to sit down next to her, wrapping my arm around her. That's when I felt Gabby cuddle up to me. "You okay Gabby?" I then went to kiss her forehead while grabbing her hand. Intertwining our fingers, I looked down at her. "We just got talking. I realize now why you are so protective of me when it comes to my dad." I then sighed and nodded, intertwining our fingers.

"Yeah?" Gabby nodded and just looked up at me. She then gave me a kiss and sighed. "It's because you were abused as a kid. That makes so much sense." I nodded. "That and because you are my wife Gabby. No husband wants to see his wife being hurt, abused and berated by someone. Let alone someone who claims to love them. And even worse, your father. Gabby, watching your dad abuse you like that breaks my heart. When we were first married...he used to love you so much. But now, he is a monster to you. To see you have to suffer is so painful."

Gabby nodded and then put her hand on my chest while I kissed the top of her head. "Gabby, you need me right now? Alone?" Gabby then sighed. "Matt, if you have work to do...then go do it. I'm fine." I then shook my head. "Gabby, tell me the truth. Do you need me right now?" Gabby then nodded as she went to grab my shirt while holding me close. "Then Gabby, I am here until the next call. I can make you feel better. Me being your husband is more important that my job as Chief of Firehouse 51. And that will always be the case for the rest of my life."

Gabby smiled when I said that before intertwining our fingers. "Anyways, I have some good news. You remember how I brought Lee Henry on as Jr. Candidate?" Gabby then looked up at me. "Yeah." I then smiled at her. "I ran into Grissom at the fire. He watched to watch me work. We spoke about it after. He heard how Lee Henry started and I explained. I mentioned the sponsoring and tailoring and stuff...and he liked the idea. He actually said that he was going to speak to the other chiefs at the meeting and was going to propose it."

Gabby then sat up and smiled at me. "Well that is amazing Matt." She then crawled over to me and bent down to kiss me softly. Grabbing her neck, I went to kiss her and then smiled. "Listen, let's get you out of here and go relax with the family." Gabby agreed and smiled as she went to get up. Grabbing my hand, she intertwined our fingers and led me out to the common room. That's when Antonio saw us. "You better sis?" I smiled and nodded. "That's because my proposal just got endorsed by the commissioner. Guys, I have some news."

Everybody then turned to look at me. "So you guys know how Lee Henry is here because I set something up?" They all nodded and agreed. "Well, he is the first of many future Academy candidates. I proposed this to Grissom and he seemed to like the idea. From now on, each year we will have candidates and sponsored candidates. They are going to apply directly to the firehouse before going to the academy. And then while they are at the academy, they are also going to work here at the firehouse to train with their future candidacy house."

Everybody then smiled and Cordova commented. "That's actually smart chief. Builds morale and helps the candidate know what is expected here." I nodded. "We all know the academy is nothing like the real world so...I thought, why not bring them into the real world. Let's just hope it's approved." Gabby smiled when I said that. "If you want, I can be the co-ordinator for that here." I smiled when she said that. "Let's just get it approved. But right now, let's sit down and I want to open the floor to questions about my proposal."

We all agreed as I went to sit with Gabby on the couch. "Okay, we are going to do this again. Severide and Kidd. You are Captain and Lieutenant. Control who speaks. Alternating trucks. Stella, you go first." Kelly then looked at me. "Why does she go first? She's interim." I then sat up and stared at him. I was about to say something when Stella turned to look at him. "You want any action in the shower over the next 2 nights?" Severide then gulped and looked at her. Stella then put her hand on his cheek and kissed him softly. "That's why babe."

Me and Gabby then both laughed when she did that. The questions then started for the next half hour. Answering them all, I was glad to clear stuff up for the entire house.
