Chapter 27

An Hour Later when Antonio and Sylvie arrive at Matt and Gabby's Place:
Antonio's POV: As I arrived at my sister's place with Sylvie, I smiled as I looked at it. "God, this place is nice." Sylvie then turned to look at me while I carried Theo in my arms. "You say that every time we come here. Remember, we helped them move in so please, can you stop saying it?" I then sighed and looked at her, knowing she was grumpy. "By the way, I've been meaning to ask...you going to talk to Matt about ambo?" Sylvie sighed and shook her head. "Antonio, I am going back there after my maternity leave. I am not going to leave when he is a new chief. Please, stop and let me do it." I then went to let out a sigh, knowing I had to give up. "Antonio, stop."

I nodded and understood, knowing that there was no way that I was going to change her mind. That's when I went to knock on the door. I then heard Matteo yell from the other side of the door. "Can I get it papa?" I then heard Matt yell. "It's unlocked!" I then went to open the door and smiled at Matteo. "Hey Matteo. How about you go show Theo your toys?" I then went to put Theo down and looked at Matteo. Matteo then walked away in front of him. Meanwhile, Theo crawled. "Matteo, slow down. Your cousin can't walk yet." I went to close the door behind me before going to help Sylvie with her coat. "Here, let me and go sit down." Sylvie then let me.

Walking away, I went to lock up for Matt and then hung her jacket up in the coat closet they had by the door. That's when I saw Matt walk over to me. "Hey, how are you?" I smiled and went to hug him. "Good. How are you brother? And how are you sleeping?" Matt then laughed when I said that. "Depends where you are talking about. Here or the firehouse?" I laughed when he said that. "My mom still here?" Matt nodded and agreed. "C'mon, I made us some lunch with Severide's help." I then looked at him. "With Severide's help." Matt then shook his head. "Shut up, he's a good cook. Heard he got a job at Molly's while we were gone. Diego back there yet?"

I shook my head. "He can't. Eva needs the car to drive to Oak Lawn Monday to Friday. She has a job while also attending UIC Law at night." Matt seemed to be shocked when I saw that. "Woah, my niece a lawyer." I then sighed. "She just changed from Immigration Law to Civil Rights. So, that's an extra year of school. I told her that she's paying for her last year because she switched." Matt then looked at me and shook his head. "What?" Matt then laughed. "Dude, you are just going to end up paying for part of it. Either her tuition, room or books." Matt then walked over to the fridge to get us some drinks. "Here, sit at the bar while the girls are upstairs."

That's when I heard Severide come downstairs. "Mind if I join the brother time?" I shook my head and smiled before going to get up, hugging him. "Congrats on the kid Kelly." Severide laughed when I said that. "Yeah, that's old news." Kelly then went to sit at the bar next to me. "What you making for lunch?" Matt then stared at us both. "Hot dogs and sausages. Oh and some salads. Sorry but, Gabby's got the kids on salads now." I nodded and understood. "Let me remind you that my father is overweight still and has been close to death many times." Matt just shook his head when I brought him up. "Tell him I am done having kids with Gabby."

I then stared at Matt and got worried. "What did my dad do now?" Matt then looked at me. "He's just pissed. He called the firehouse." I then shook my head. "He knows you're chief." Matt nodded. "Yeah, I told the jail he can't call my cell or Gabby's cell. However, I can't say anything about work considering it's a public phone number. I just told my secretary to not take his calls." I then looked at him. "Your secretary?" Matt nodded and smiled. "Yeah, Connie. The one that sits outside my office? By the way, who's taking over as my liaison to the CPD when you go on paternity leave? Did you figure that out yet? I'd like to know if I'm dealing with Voight soon."

I nodded and agreed. "I will make sure you get Jay." Matt smiled when I said that. "Oh and I need you to book a day off. Either you or Sylvie. I need help on March 2nd. I need an extra pair of hands considering Gabby is going in for a surgery that day." I then got worried when he said that. "She okay?" Matt nodded. "Tubes." I then just nodded and understood what he meant. She was going to get her tubes tied so that it was basically impossible for them to have anymore kids. "You get yours checked to make sure it worked this time." Matt nodded. "What about you?" I nodded and agreed with him. "I had quite an incentive to make sure it worked."

I laughed when he said that. "By the way, how was your first shift." I smiled when he asked. "It was good. But listen, another thing...Gabby is back April 15th." I nodded and smiled. "I bet she can't wait to work under you again." Matt sighed. "I am not sure if I am ready for her to come back. I need your advice. I want her to take more time so I am not distracted. I mean, I would love her to be there but...it's not like before where I can just be captain while we are on scene and be with her in the firehouse. I am chief in the house. Heck, that worries me. On and we have 3 kids. What happens if one of us doesn't make it back? Or both of us don't make it back."

Severide just stared at me. "Dude, you can't stop Gabby from going back. That would be wrong. Plus, you guys are going to be fine. You already made it clear that while you are at work, you are not her husband...you are her boss." I then laughed when he said that. Severide then turned to look at me. "Oh, you were serious?" Severide nodded. "Dude, the wife is always the boss in the marriage. Last time I checked, you can't get pleasure without her saying yes." That's when I heard Matteo walk up to me. "What's pleasure uncle Tonio?" Matt then looked at him and then turned to look at me. "Yeah uncle Tonio?" He then gave me his glare and I could tell he wasn't happy with the fact that I was going to have to tell his son about sex.

"It's something that you are going to learn about when you are older Matteo. It's someone only adults get to talk about. It's adult fun." Matteo then nodded and understood, walking away. Turning to look at Matt, he just shook his head. "If he asks that question to Gabby, expect a phone call from her. Sorry but, I am not going to defend you when it comes to that. That's way too much man. Seriously, you talk about that in front of your nephew. And don't even say that I am being irrational. You would be saying the same shit if I mentioned it in front of Theo!" I nodded and agreed. "How about you concentrate on the sausages? I am going to say hi to my sister. Or should I stay down here?" Matt then looked at me. "Go ahead, I bet she's done."

I agreed and nodded as I went to get up, hoping to go see my sister in her room.
