Matt's POV: After driving home, I smiled when I pulled into the driveway. The joys of having nice neighbors. Apparently, someone shovelled our driveway this morning considering there wasn't any snow. Shutting off the car, I then turned around to look at Eva and smiled at her. "You are going to take the basement bedroom okay Eva?" Eva nodded and agreed. "Sure thing uncle Matt." I then turned to look at Gabby. "How about you take care of the kids and I can unpack the van with Eva's help?" Gabby smiled and agreed with me. "Like I was going to help when I am positive that one of them needs more sleep. Ella looks quite tired."
I turned to look at Ella and smiled at her. "You tired baby girl?" Ella then nodded. "You can take a nap when we're inside okay?" Ella then agreed as I went to get out. I then went to open the back to help Matteo out. "Here Matteo, can you help me with some of the stuff in the back?" Matteo nodded and agreed as I let him out before going to grab Theo from his car seat. "Here Eva, this is the easiest way to get out." Eva nodded as she went to grab her laptop bag before getting out with me. She then smiled at me. "Thanks again for letting me stay."
I nodded and agreed with her. "No problem Eva. You are family, this is just something that family does for family." Eva smiled as she went to hug me before going to walk over to the back. "So, I am just going to bring my bag in and put my laptop down. Then, I will come back and help." I agreed and nodded before letting her grab everything. That's when I went to grab my laptop first so it didn't fall. "Sorry, that can't fall. That's work." Eva then looked at me. "Yes, Chief Casey needs his laptop." I sighed and nodded. "Yeah, might work a bit today."
Eva agreed with me. "Just make sure that you also spend time with you kids. We both know that my dad would freak out if he found out that you worked most of the time." I nodded and agreed with her. "I know that Eva. I have known your father for over a decade both professionally and personally. So, that's no question." Eva then looked at me. "So, you've known my dad longer than my aunt?" I nodded. "Yeah, I was a Lieutenant before Gabby started at Firehouse 51. We dealt with police sometimes. Now, let's get inside. It's cold."
Grabbing some of the duffle bags, I then put them over my shoulders before going to walk towards the doors. That's when I saw Gabby there. "Here, give me your laptop and those. Get the rest of the stuff and then we can sort it when you are inside. I am going to go make you a coffee." I smiled when she said that. "You are a saint, you know that right?" I then went to give her my laptop and some of the bags before tugging her in for a kiss. Eva then shook her head as she went to get in. "We putting the kids down again?"
Gabby nodded. "Yeah, just finish unpacking the van and then we can put them down for another nap. However Eva, we might relax in bed okay? We didn't sleep the best on the pull out couch." Eva nodded and agreed. "Can I just head downstairs?" Gabby smiled and nodded as she went to kiss her forehead. "I want you to eat lunch with us and supper too." Eva nodded and agreed. "Okay aunt Gabby. See you soon." Eva then went downstairs while I walked away to the van again to get the last of our things. That's when I saw Ramon at the end of my driveway.
"What the hell are you doing here?" Ramon then looked at me. "Matthew, calm down. You are chief and you need to keep up your appearances." I then shook my head. "Don't Matthew me." I then went to grab more things out of the back of the van. "I saw Eva here. She okay?" I just ignored him. "Matthew, we are neighbors." I then turned to look at him. "Where do you live?" He then pointed towards the apartment complex down the street. "How did you know we just got home?" Ramon then smiled. "I was getting the mail. I live in the block."
I then shook my head and groaned. "Stay the hell away from my family. Is that understood? And don't you dare get mad if I don't tell Gabby you are out h..." That's when I heard Gabby come outside. "Oh Matt, can you also....dad." I then turned to look at Gabby and sighed. "Gabby, I am handling it." Gabby then looked at me. "What is he doing here anyways?" I then walked over to her. "Apparently, he lives in the neighborhood." Gabby then stepped close to me and just wrapped her arms around me while I kissed her head. "Hey, he's not going to hurt you...I promise. I am here Gabby." Gabby then sighed. "Matt, can I speak with my dad alone?"
I then looked at her. "Gabby, I can't let you do it alone. Not right now. Please, at least let me stand by the car just in case. You know what happened last time you spoke to him when we had a newborn." Gabby then nodded and just looked at me. "Okay." I then moved to stand at the edge of the car before watching Gabby walk over to her dad. "Dad, what are you even doing here? You can't be around us." Ramon then went to hug her and Gabby pushed him away. "Please dad, I am scared. I can't do this. You hurt me too much dad. Just seeing you still hurts me. Dad, you know how much I wanted kids of my own. To hear that you were mad that I even got pregnant made me feel so down."
I then just listened, letting Gabby talk. "Dad, you took what was supposed to be one of the happiest times in my life...becoming a mom for the first time with the man I love and turned it into a time where I became scared of my own father. Dad, you told me that you loved me. If you really did, then you would accept my choices when it came to my husband and whether I put my life on the line to have kids. But instead, you barge into our home and then you set it ablaze! You really think Matt wouldn't tell me that?"
Ramon just stayed quiet since Gabby wasn't done. "You may be my father...but you are no dad. A dad loves his children unconditionally. They love the people they love unconditionally. They support them when they are vulnerable, and they stand by them in the decisions they make regardless of how they think about it. Dad, I made the choice to have biological kids. For reasons you have no idea about. And I don't care what you think...because I love my kids. And that's all that matters at the end of the day. Not how they were conceived, when they were conceived or whether I put my life at risk. All that matters is I am safe, I love my kids and they love me."
I then saw Ramon get moved by the speech. "However, I haven't been treated the same way by you. I haven't felt love from you since you attacked me the first time at target. Dad, you knew I had a newborn. And you attacked me in a parking lot within a month of me giving birth. That is unbelievable and unforgivable. Yes Matt forgave you but...I haven't. And there is nothing you can say that will change that. Matt is the man I love, he is my husband and you will respect him. However, you will not come near us. Now, I have to go lay down. Matt, just unpack. Goodbye dad and please move. I don't care if you were here first...this is our home."
Gabby then walked past me and went to rub my cheek. "Come upstairs when you are done." I nodded and agreed. "Of course." Gabby then agreed as she kissed me softly before walking away. I then watched her go inside while turning to look at Ramon. "You heard her, please respect her wishes. Do not bother her. Especially when I am at work at the firehouse. The restraining order is still in effect and I am not afraid to use it. So get lost before I call the cops." Ramon then agreed and left as I went to grab the rest of our things to head inside.
