Chapter 66

An Hour Later when Matt and Severide get back to the firehouse:
Matt's POV: As me and Severide walked in together with Hermann, I smiled as I walked in to see everybody just reading magazines and stuff. That's when I saw Stella was there and so was Gabby, obviously here to congratulate Severide on his promotion. "How are you going to hug first babe?" Gabby then turned to look at me and smiled as she walked over to me. "You." She then went to grab my jacket as she went to kiss me softly. "But only because Stella wants to hug her new captain husband first." I then went to look at everybody. "Guys, your attention please."

The entire firehouse then looked at me. Cruz spoke first. "What's up chief?" I smiled as I turned to look at Severide. "My I introduce you to Captain Kelly Severide." Cruz then got up and was shocked. Walking over to him, he then went to hug him. "Congrats Severide." Severide smiled and looked at him. "Thanks Cruz." I then looked at Cruz. "Cruz, I want you to take the Lieutenant exam next okay?" Cruz was shocked when I said that. "What?" I looked at Severide. "I mean, if that's okay Captain?" Severide nodded and agreed with my choice. "Yes, good choice."

I then smiled while looking at Gabby. "Severide, you have a minute with Stella. Remember, I want to meet with you. Guys, we already had lunch. I took him out to celebrate. Oh and I want to announce one more thing actually." Hermann then smiled when I said that. "I would like to announce that Lee Henry Hermann will be joining us at Firehouse 51 as our Squad Candidate this July." Everybody then clapped when I said that. "And don't worry...I told him that he has to learn to cook from his mother, not his father." Everybody laughed because they were relieved.

Hermann then looked at me. "Haha, not funny Casey." I then walked over to him while holding Gabby's hand. "Actually, it is. Because the Chief said it captain." I then smirked. "Severide, have lunch with Stella and Stephen. Once that's done, my office. Everybody, do not disturb. I am having a moment with my wife." Everybody nodded and agreed as I led Gabby away to my office. Walking into my office together, I smiled as I turned to look at her before going to push her against the door. Gabby smiled when I did that before locking it. 

Bending down, I smiled as I kissed her before picking her up in my arms and wrapping her legs around my waist. "God, I wish you could've been there. It was fun." Carrying her to my chair, I then smiled as I sat down with her in my lap. Putting her hands on my chest, Gabby was about to kiss me when she pulled away. I was confused. "Hey, what's wrong?" Gabby then went to get up and just walked around the desk. "Sorry, I can't do it in here yet." I nodded and understood. "Here, then just come sit in my lap." Gabby nodded and agreed as she came to sit with me.

Cuddling up to me, I smiled as I went to lean down and grabbed my laptop. I then went to turn it on so that I could plug it into my second monitor. "You just take a breather before you have to leave okay? How long do you have before you have to go?" Gabby sighed. "Not very long. Anyways, you are coming home tonight you said right?" I nodded and smiled while moving to rub her leg. "Yeah, but that means I have to do another shift tomorrow. Anyways, have to speak to the other shift yet anyways. Haven't met with them."

Gabby then looked at me. "What does that mean for my shifts? You know, when I'm back. Am I going to do 24 hours and you 12 at a time? I am not sure if I am okay with that Matt. I want us to be together all the time in case I have an anxiety or OCD attack. Or what if I have memories here that are sad and stuff." I nodded and agreed with her. "Gabby, I am going to do 24 hour shifts just like you so that we can be together as a family every 48 hours. However, not right now. Right now, I am going to do 2 straight days of 12 hour days before 48 hours off." 

Gabby smiled and agreed with my plan as we held each other. She then got up and went to sit on a chair. "Listen, I just wanted to be here quickly and say congrats. What do you say I make you supper when we get home? You can put the kids to bed while I make you supper." I smiled as I looked at her and nodded. "Sure thing. That sounds perfect." Gabby smiled when I said that before reaching over to grab my hand across the desk. "Can I come in tomorrow? Maybe you can give Connie some time off to grieve Matt. I can be your assistant?"

I bit my lip when she said that and nodded. "I would love that. But not yet okay? After Valentine's day...I will talk to her about having time. You are still recovering. But listen, I promise I will be able to go to church if you want." Gabby shook her head. "Not yet. But, I am going to make a meeting with the pastor to get baptism information. I mean, if that's okay?" I nodded and agreed. "Sure thing. Now listen, as much as I love having you here...go rest babe, you look tired." Gabby agreed and nodded when I said that. "I am. See you tonight?"

I smiled and agreed. "I promise. Send Severide and Hermann in." Gabby nodded and agreed as she went to walk up to me. Bending down, she kissed me softly while grabbing the back of my head. "Stay safe and stay out of the fires." I agreed and nodded while kissing her one last time. She then got up and smiled as I watched her walk away, still madly in love with her.
