after they spoke, the little boy looked better. he gave minho another tight hug before he was sent off to go inside and play with his friends.

thinking he was alone now, minho stood up to wipe down his clothes.

jisung was too slow to realize that he should probably be rushing away right now so he wouldn't be caught eavesdropping.

but before he could move, minho went up to the door and locked eyes with jisung.

they froze, caught in some weird stare off.

it was weird.

much like how things seemed to be lately.

"you.. um.." jisung was the first to speak. he looked down at his shoes and mulled on what to say next. "that was sweet." he whispered.

part of him was curious to whether minho would take offense to his comment or not, but he still didn't look up.

he wasn't going to lie about it. there was something so pure and kind about the exchange he witnessed.

jisung knew that the two of them could both relate to some level of neglect from their childhood.

he knew that when he was younger, it meant everything to hear someone say that everything is going to be okay.

maybe that's why part of him felt comforted by minho's words even though they weren't even directed at him.

"i just think someone should be there." he didn't expect to hear the sentence come out of minho's mouth. he expected to be ignored.

when jisung looked up, he noticed the older looking at him with a stoic expression. a stoic expression, without cold eyes.

"like how we needed someone."

jisung felt his heart thump hard in his chest.

his eyes went wide on pure instinct and he felt something warm sprout at the acknowledgment that they both needed comfort at one point.

it knocked him so off guard that he had to bring himself back.

he swallowed, breaking his eyes away with a tiny nod. "yeah." he uttered.

"let's get back to work. all the kids have to eat now." minho motioned behind jisung.

with the blonde's heart being held down by something, the two of them went back inside to serve everyone.

~~~
after setting down all the treys with delicious food on them- the kids began to eat.
jisung couldn't help but look back at whatever minho was doing after their mini conversation.
even while he was wiping down the counters, he would catch glimpses of him even if he was doing something else.
from what jisung could tell, minho actually liked his job.
he watched the way minho fed a little girl who was too young to do it herself without making a mess. she was beaming, smiling and happily accepting every spoonful of rice minho gave to her.
"almost done." minho smiled, getting a little bit of kimchi on the spoon this time. "you're eating so well today." he said.
she nodded enthusiastically. "mhm!! cause it's extra yummy." she said, kicking her feet. "want more chicken." she pointed, and minho obliged.
jisung couldn't help but be in awe.
he would feel like this for the remainder of the day.
watching minho balance empty treys with one hand while carrying a sleeping child in the other as if it were nothing.
