Chapter 275 - The Real Dreamer

Kara is now joining Lena, Nia, J'onn and Lillian down in Lena's 'bunker lab' as Nia has dubbed it. As Kara walks down the stairs and enters the room, she can already hear that Lena and Lillian are having a lively discussion about the first thing, and test, they should run to try and help Nia with her powers. Meanwhile, J'onn and Nia are just standing there, looking a bit confused, because with all the scientific terms that Lena and Lillian are speaking right now, it might as well be a foreign language to J'onn and Nia, and it feels that way for Kara too, as she walks into the room.

"We need to monitor how her cells change when her powers activate. That will tell us everything we need to know." Lillian says.

"No." Lena replies, "You are assuming that using powers does cause the cells to change from what they normally look like while not using powers, but from my experience, that is actually not the case."

"Hmmm.... okay. Then what do you suggest?" Lillian asks.

"Well, her powers are driven via oneiromancy, so I believe the best way to get an insight into Nia's powers is actually just to monitor her brainwaves, both while she is dreaming, and also while she is using her powers." Lena says.

"Yes..... That could work." Lillian agrees, "We should also monitor her heart rate as well. If she has an increased heartrate while dreaming, or while activating her powers, that also might be able to tell us something."

"Yes." Lena agrees, with a little smile.

Lena is smiling right now because previously in Lena's life, when Lillian was still being an awful person, that is not an interaction that she reasonably could have expected herself to have with Lillian. Lena could never imagine herself actually having a discussion and a debate on what to do in regards to something to do with science. However, right now they were not only able to debate one another, but agree on tests to do moving forward. This would have never happened previously, Lillian would have brushed Lena, and her opinions, to the side, and gone about it her own way. So, Lena is so happy to get to experience this part of Lillian, and work with her. As horrible as Lillian was to Lena growing up, Lena did always kind of look up to her, as a maternal figure, so of course she wanted this to be something she could do with Lillian in the back of her mind, always, and now it is a reality.

"How about while the two of you figure all that out, J'onn and I actually just talk with Nia a bit, about her powers?" Kara suggests.

Lena and Lillian now both turn to look at Kara, each of them clearly surprised by Kara's suddenly speaking, obviously having not seen her walk into the room.

"Oh.... hello, darling. I didn't see you there." Lena says, "But yes, that's probably I good idea. I didn't mean to make you feel we were talking about you like a test subject, Nia."

"That's okay." Nia says, with a bit of a smile, "I'm just glad you are both a lot smarter than me, and have some ideas. It honestly probably would be a lot scarier for me, and make me more anxious, if you both didn't have any ideas as to tests you would like to run."

"Yes..... well..... I'm also sorry for getting a bit carried away, Nia." Lillian says, "I'm not used to all this..... and.... working with people...... But..... we will try our best to not make you feel like some test subject in a lab which we are just going to poke and prod."

Nia chuckles at Lillian saying that.

"That would be appreciated." Nia says, with a smile.

"Come on mother, let's give Nia, J'onn and Kara some space, and we can prepare over here." Lena says, grabbing hold of one of Lillian's arms.

"Yes. Okay." Lillian nods.

Lillian and Lena then begin to walk away from the other three, and as they do, Lillian leans close to Lena's ear.
