Chapter 385 - Pregnancy Celebrations

Back in National City, the group are all stilly mostly gathered at The Tower, having spent the last few hours celebrating the fact that Alex is pregnant with a baby with Sam. Out of everyone, Ruby and Kara have been the two, aside from Sam and Alex, who have taken the news the best, not to say that anyone else is actually unhappy or upset about Alex being pregnant, it's just that Ruby and Kara have their own specific reasons for being happy that Alex is pregnant. Ruby is happy because for her it means that she is going to be getting a little brother or sister, which she thinks will be very cool, even if there will be an almost 15 year age difference between the two of them. Ultimately though, Ruby just knows this means that her family, which she has with her two moms, as Alex is also her mom, will just be growing, and adding more happiness to it, and after everything they have all been through, they deserve it. So, Ruby is just really excited about what the future will hold, and how their family is going to get a new member, while also the thoughts not even crossing Ruby's mind that a second child would take attention away from her from her parents. Ruby knows there is more than enough attention, and love, to go around between her two moms, and the rest of their extended family. Ruby is aware that Kara and Lena are proof of that, as the couple now have three daughters, who they love equally, and make sure to spend a good amount of time with each daughter, and give them the attention they deserve. In regards to Kara's reason for being happy about Alex being pregnant, she, of course, just like Ruby, is happy because Alex is doing to be having a baby, and they will be adding a new member to their extended family, with Kara being well aware that even though Alex has got to be a mom by adopting Ruby, one of the things that Alex has missed out on, is the process of giving birth, and raising a child from a young age, even if Alex did partially get that experience by helping Kara with Alura after she was first born. However, the actual bigger reason that Kara is so happy that Alex is pregnant, is the side effect from Alex becoming pregnant via this kryptonian process, just like Lena did with Kara, giving birth to Lori a few weeks ago now. This all means that, just like Lena, during this process Alex will slowly become more and more kryptonian, until she is no longer human, which will ultimately mean that Alex will gain some powers like Lena has, meaning she cannot be killed by something like a bullet or anything, but the much bigger thing Kara has in mind, is that this will give Alex a much longer life span than a normal human. One of Kara's biggest fears upon arriving on Earth, and a big reason it took her a while to actually warm up to the Danvers family, and accept them as her own, second, family, is because she knew they were human, and she was kryptonian. Kryptonians, even on Krypton, under a red sun, have a much longer life span than humans, living around 200 – 300 years, whereas a human is lucky if they reach 100, and even then, likely will not be in good condition upon reaching that age. Then, Kara has no idea how much her life will be extended due to her living under the Earth's yellow sun for all this time. All Kara does know, is that she will outlive most humans, due to her increased life span. Obviously Kara knows that outliving your parents, like Eliza, is normal for a child, but to greatly outlive your own sister, that is a heartbreak Kara has always been worried to bear. Of course, eventually, during Kara's teenage years, she simply had to put that fear to the side, and try not to think about it too much, as otherwise she knew she would just live too much of a sheltered life, not making friends with humans out of fear of getting close to them, and then outliving them. This has allowed Kara to just have a normal life, and even marry a human, who Kara was aware she would outlive, although that was before Lena became a kryptonian. Despite Kara putting the thought to the side about outliving humans, and specifically Alex, it has always been there in the back of her mind. So now, to hear that Alex will become a kryptonian, and thereby have an extended lifespan, that truly gives Kara so much relief, with it almost being like an unknown weight has been lifted off her shoulders. A weight that she didn't even know she had been carrying for this long. Obviously, this is a little selfish viewpoint of this pregnancy, but that doesn't mean that Kara still isn't equally happy for the pregnancy itself, rather than just the side effects of it.
