Chapter 379 - End of Second World War

I now truly believe that this war might be coming to an end sometime soon now, which honestly I don't know how father feels about. I think a part of him wants all this death and destruction to continue, because he relishes from it, almost as if he feeds from it and is sustains him. However, at the same time, father still feels betrayed by Hitler, by him not listening to him, and them blaming him and marking him for death, so he is driven by revenge too, and a need to want to see Hitler dead, and Nazi Germany fall to piece. Either way, I know that father will come out a winner as a result of this war, which is the consequence of him actually backing both sides, first the Germans, then both the Germans and the allied forces, although mostly just so the war would continue, and he would earn a lot more money and influence for Leviathan as a result of things. But then things shifted to him entire backing the allied forces, which also corresponded with a shift in the war, and it moving much more towards a more likely allied victory, rather than Nazi Germany. I'm not saying that father was the determining factor in this, by any means. If anything, I think it can be more seen like father seeing the writing on the wall, and then backing the winning side, rather than sticking with a loser, even if he did have a few other reasons to change sides outside of that. That said, the reason that there has been another major shift in the war now is because on the 6th June of this year, the allies started an operation to take back France from the occupying German forces, which they have named D-Day, officially known as, to the allies, Operation Neptune. This operation ended up being a major success for the allied forces, and they were truly able to get a foothold back in France, and start to push the Nazis back to the south and east. Apparently, according to our intelligence, the major reason for the allies successfully being able to conduct operation Neptune, is because the British had managed to break the German enigma code, therefore prior to D-day they were able to intercept German transmissions and know where they were all based. After this, the allied forces began their push towards Paris, and the outskirts of France, and they ultimately liberated Paris of the Germans about a week ago now, on August 19th.

Father now seems very excited for what is to come next in this war, even if it does mean that it's coming to an end. From the sounds of things, from what I've overheard him say to people, and himself, he really wants Leviathan to join the fighting now, and he wants to be at the front of it. This isn't, of course, because father is taking any moral standing or anything. This is because father wants to be at the head of the charge when the allies eventually push into Germany, which will likely end with the death of Hitler. I believe father, personally, wants to look Hitler in the eyes, and kill him, as an act of revenge, for what he sees as the betrayal of him. Father doesn't care, even a little bit, about the genocide Hitler has done on the Jewish people, if anything, he approves of that. Father's only gripe with Hitler, is he feels Hitler betrayed him. But can a fascist madman really ever betray anyone? As isn't that what you should expect? Anyway, thankfully, from what father has said thus far, it doesn't sound like he has any intention for Nyssa or I to join the front line fighting, which is good. The last thing I want to happen is for one, or both of us, to end up fighting this war, because of father, and then losing our lives. We have survived thus far, both from the war, and father. I have no intention of us dying now.

I do very much worry about what is going to come next, after this war is over, and after the Germans are defeated. I don't mean that in regards to the planet in general, even if I personally do have concerns there. I am more so worried about what father is going to do next. I know how these things work. I have witnessed it, and read about it in history. It is unusual for a war to just end, and a side to be defeated, and there to be peace. There isn't really ever a true peace, just an uneasy calm, maybe a calm before the storm. I worry that father will not want any calm to last long, and once the war is over he will try and put things in motion for two sides to be at conflict with one another once more. There is not much I can do about that now though, not much anyone can do. We will just have to wait and see what happens. Maybe, just maybe, father will die fighting in the end of this war, and then that will solve everything. I doubt I will be so lucky though.
