A Leap of Faith (Part 2)

Chapter 400 - The 400th!

"Is that kryptonite pink?" Lena asks, as she looks at the monitor.

"Yes, it seems so." Eliza replies.

"For fuck sake." Lena mutters, angrily, "Just how many different types of stupid kryptonite are we going to have to make until we get gold?"

"Lena, relax. You knew this could take time. This isn't a precise thing." Kara says.

Lena now sighs.

"Yeah. I know. I just..... It's frustrating. I know it doesn't make any sense, and isn't true at all, but I just feel if I was actually able to be in there, while doing the experiments, we'd have made gold kryptonite already." Lena says.

"Well, we both know you can't be in there, as the kryptonite could affect you." Kara says, "Plus, at the same time, all Lillian, Eliza, Winn and J'onn are doing, is picking one of the kryptonite molecular constructions that your programme spits out, and then attempting to make that version of kryptonite. It's not like you would have any better chance at picking the right one that ends up producing pink kryptonite, unless you don't trust your mother's and Eliza's abilities to do the experiment properly?"

"No. I do trust them." Lena says, "I know they are both perfectly capable. And likely have far more experience than me doing these types of experiments. It's just.... I don't know. You know how much I hate passing stuff down to other people."

"I know." Kara says.

"But I also keep thinking that maybe my programme is wrong? Maybe the molecular structure data set is wrong, and it will never produce gold kryptonite." Kara says.

"Well, I don't think there is much you can do about it now, anyway." Kara says.

"Yeah..... you are probably right." Lena says.

Kara and Lena now watch as J'onn carefully disposes of the pink kryptonite, locking it away in another lead lined case. Once they do this though, both Kara and Lena notice that Eliza and Lillian are not making any attempts to start another experiment, and instead are taking off some of their protective gear, and heading for the secure changing room that they need to go through to exit the lab.

"What is going on?" Lena asks.

"I don't know." Kara shrugs, "It's not like I can hear through those walls. They are lead lined."

Kara and Lena now exit the monitoring room, and soon wait at the exit to the lab, with Lillian, Eliza, Winn and J'onn soon coming out a few moments later.

"What is going on? Why are you not continuing?" Lena asks, in a bit of a frustrated voice.

"Lena, we have been at this for 5 hours already. We need to have a break." Lillian says.

"But, we are against the clock with all this! We can't afford to waste time!" Lena exclaims.

"Lena." Kara says, "They are right. They need to have a break. They need to rest for a bit, and eat some lunch and stuff. We don't want them to not have a break, and then make mistakes because they lose focus, or are tired or something, do we?"

Lena now lets out another long sigh.

"Yes, you are right. I'm sorry." Lena says.

"That's okay, Lena." Eliza says, in a soft voice, "We know you are just frustrated, as we all are. But I'm confident we will get there, with time."

"Yeah, okay." Lena nods, "Thank you for saying that."

"Okay. Come on everyone, let's go sit down and take a break for a while, and maybe order some food so we can all replenish our energy levels." Kara says, with a smile.
