A Leap of Faith (Part 2)

Chapter 330 - Sam's Alive!

"SAM!" Alex yells, and tries to struggle free from Kara's arms, having clearly seen Sam take a breath.

"Alex, stop." Kara says, "I can't even begin to imagine how difficult this must be for you, but you can't go under those yellow sun lamps, they will harm you. Please, Alex, you need to be careful, if not for yourself, for Sam, and for Ruby."

Alex now stops struggling in Kara's arms, standing still now.

"But..... I need to.... check on her...." Alex says, in a bit of a helpless voice.

"I'll check on her, Alex." Lena says, "Remember, I can actually walk under these yellow sun lamps down."

Alex doesn't say anything in response to that, she just simply watches as Lena walks under the yellow sun lamps, and moves to Sam's side. As soon as she is under the yellow sun lamps, Lena feels a bit of a tingly feeling in her body, that certainly is not unpleasant at all. Lena can tell how much good being under a yellow sun lamp like this could do for her now, and likely increase her powers further, even if only for a brief amount of time. Anyway, because of now being aware of that, Lena is very hopeful that these yellow sun lamps are having the same effect on Sam. Lena believes it is very possible that while Sam's cells may have appeared human, after the exposure to the harun-el, with Sam then separating with Reign, it is also possible that due to the harun-el being exposed to an entire body, the body recovered, and recovered to a point beyond just that of a human, giving Sam the cells of that of a kryptonian too.

Now that Lena is at Sam's side, she immediately feels for Sam's pulse point on her neck, and right away she can actually feel a strong pulse from her friend. Then, what makes Lena even more assured about this, is Lena may not be a medic or anything, but over the years she has learnt how a human's pulse point should feel, and Sam's doesn't feel like a human one. Sam's pulse feels much much stronger, familiar to that of a kryptonians, which Lena is also very familiar with. So, this all very much reassures Lena, and is another little thing that is confirming her theory that Sam is possibly becoming a bit of a kryptonian like her. After checking Sam's pulse, Lena now moves her head to Sam's chest to check her friends breathing, and heartbeat. Lena knows that this isn't the ideal method to do this, as she really needs a stethoscope to properly check everything, but Lena doesn't know how a stethoscope might be affected under yellow sun lamps, and right now these checks on Sam are mostly for Alex's peace of mind, so Lena doesn't want to stop to just go find a stethoscope to use. Then, on top of all this, Lena has some enhanced hearing right now, so she should be able to hopefully use that to listen to Sam's heart and breathing better than that of a human. The only problem is that Lena hasn't really tried to use her powers much like this, so doesn't have the control over them to do something like this, like Kara does.

"Sam's pulse is strong." Lena says, as she now starts to listen to Sam's chest, for her breathing and her heart, "Very strong. Stronger than that of a human's."

"That's good." Lillian says.

"Yes. It is." Lena replies, softly.

Alex now starts to feel a little bit of hope flood through her body, hope that maybe her wife actually didn't die, and they all just thought she did. It is likely that after Sam moved in front of Alex, to protect her from Reign's attack, everyone thought Sam had died, because she had fallen unconscious and they couldn't hear her heart or feel her breathing or anything. However, it is very possible that actually Sam's heart had just dropped to a very very low beat, with her breathing be very soft, so none of them could actually detect it at all, not until Kara was in the room with Sam's body, seeing as Kara was unconscious after they originally thought Sam had died. Of course, both Alura and Lena are kryptonians too, and should have been able to detect Sam's weak heartbeat, a bit like Kara was able to, but it's really understandable that they weren't able to do that, because Alura has really only just got these increased powers now that she has arrived on Earth, several hours ago, and Lena really hasn't tried to test out her powers, for their uses, and how to control them, beyond not losing control, and them going haywire. It makes Lena think that perhaps she will need Kara to help her learn how to have more control over her powers in the future, so she too can detect something like this, with Lena thinking of many practical uses for them beyond situations like this. However, that is something for another day.
